Whats going on at the CASTLE? We are almost wrapping up spring sports, but AK
baseball is still in the hunt. Heres what happened last weekend-

AK MTEN dual team was defeated in the NCHSAA Regionals vs. RJ Reynolds 5-1 with
Ross Delorenzo winning his match for us, but we were NCHSAA Regional Runners Up-
nice trophy! Congratulations to Coach Hudson and team on an outstanding season!

AK V Baseball defeated North Meck 6-0 after 5 scoreless innings in the NCHSAA 2
nd
Rd
. Pitcher Doug Norman was on the bump as he and the rest of the team opening up a can
of hits in the 6
th
to win. Sophomore Aaron Pilkington cranked a HR to reach 19 so far this
season-the state record is 20. We also defeated South Caldwell Tuesday for the 3
rd

Rd. WOW, bottom of the 9
th
inning, 2 outs, full count, and bases loaded!!! Kollin Schrenk
drills one off the fence (I thought it may have been a grand slam, but I was getting the
umps their end of game refreshments! ;) Exceptional pitching by Doug Norman and
Kollin Schrenk in relief guided this victory with timely hitting (nice bunt, Cole Smith to
start the rally!) and solid defense all around and behind the dish, Ben Carrick. Next action
is Friday for the 4
th
Round of the NCHSAA playoffs. Game time is 7pm. Gates open at
5:30pm, $6 admission. Please make sure you buy your tix BEFORE you head out to center
field for this one if you want to go out there. Remember, no parking in Westin Glen
neighborhood.. Congrats and good luck to Coach Bagwell and staff and teams!!

AK V Softball travelled to state champ Alex Central last Friday night in the NCHSAA 2
nd

Rd playoffs, and were defeated 12-0. Although its a tough loss, we had a great season as
we tied for 1
st
place in the Conference. Congrats to Coach Bove and staff and teams this
year.

AK M and W TRACK competitors did well in the 4A State championships meet this past
Saturday. Sydney Blue finished runner up in the State by placing 2nd overall with a jump
of 5 feet 4 inches earning her a silver medal. Josh German was our only double event
qualifier- one of few qualifiers from Charlotte in the long jump and triple jump placing 9th
and 12th overall. AKs 400 meter dash runner Lindsey Wheeler finished 12th overall and
our 4 x400 mens relay team of Chris Boulton, Dyllan Moss, Justin Cooper, and Josh
Cooper finished 8th missing the school record by less than a second. Congrats to Coach
Zelk, Coach King, Coach Lockrem and Coach Varner and teams on another great season!

AK V WSOC played a tough match and was 0-0 going into the 2
nd
half, but West Forsyth
won last Saturday night at 6:30pm in the 2
nd
Rd of NCHSAA Playoffs. Great defensive
plays as well as all-around hustle and strength of character for game
adversity. Congrats to Coach Montgomery and teams!

AK V WLAX were in the NCHSAA Regionals this year, as they defeated NW to meet
Marvin Ridge. It was a great match as we rallied down 5 to be at 10-12 going into the last
minutes of the game. Congratulations to Coach Hook and Coach Young and team as this is
the best finish for our WLAX !!
