requires will be checked up.

3.2. The vertical bearing capacity of single pile will be identified to provide design
basis for design of engineering pile.

3.3. The horizontal bearing capacity of single pile for609 steel pipe piles will
be identified to provide design basis for design of engineering pile.

3.4. The integrality of welding steel pipe piles will be checked up through low strain
dynamic test.

3.5. The validated datum of contrast between dynamic test and static test will be
established by high strain dynamic test to calculate the feature value of vertical
bearing capacity of engineering pile in order to provide contrast datum for
engineering pile tests.

4. CONTENT AND METHOD OF TEST PILE

4.1. LAYOUT OF TEST PILES
One point of test pile layout of test pile is show in attached drawing a pile
609mm steel pipe pile and the other are some anchor piles for test pile. The
test pile layout is show attached drawing in appendix (dwg no 2B0801-T1100-

Testing piles should be conducted according ASTM code as above and PLN
contract document or other equivalent regulations that are not lower than above
mentioned codes.
Elevation of test pile head is +2,89m that is based on the benchmark of the local
MSL. The soil around piles should be excavated to elevation of -6,64m (from
MSL) before pile test, or contribution of soil above El. -6.64m should be
deducted from bearing capacity calculation.
Low strain dynamic test, high strain dynamic test, vertical compression dead-
load test and horizontal dead-load test shall be conducted for test pile. Specific
content and amount of test pile are listed in tables 2 and 3.

4.3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

4.3.1. Selection of piles

outside diameter with minimum thickness is 9.5 mm, the piles will be produced
meet at least one of the following specification :
a. API 5L
b. ASTM A-53 (with mill certificates to confirm minimum yeild strength
c. ASTM A-252 with the following provision :
- Chemical analysis of material shall show that both the equivalent
carbon content and total carbon content are less than 0.30%
- Unless spiral welds are certified as conforming to the requirement
of ASTM A53 or API 5L-1980, weld shall be 100% inspected by
ultrasonic or electromagnetic inspection according to the
requirement ASTM A53
- The pipes joint shall be fully penetration weld. All weld shall be
inspected by ultrasonic or electromagnetic inspection with 100%
for the first 3m of weld for each position for each welder.
Thereafter, shall be random spot examination of 1 pile joints for
each additional 10 piles joint of weld, If any random spot fails to
meet the acceptance standard, 2 additional random shall be
examined at locations on each pile joints from the failure random

spot, if still fail to meet the acceptance standard, the entire welds
of 10 pile joints shall be completely examined.
Welding practice and qualification of fabricator shall conform to the
requirement of American Welding Society (AWS) Welding code AWS D1, 1-
86.
Product shall have quality certification and qualification certificate ex factory.

4.4. EXPERIMENT OF TEST PILE
Experiments of test pile will be conducted according to ASTM 1143-81
Standard test method for piles under static axial compressive load, ASTM D-
4954-1996 Standard test method for High-Strain dynamic testing of piles,
ASTM D-3669 Method of testing individual piles under static axial tensile
load and ASTM D-3966-90 Standard test method for piles under lateral load

4.4.1. Vertical dead-load compression test of pile
The vertical dead-load compression test of pile will be conducted according
to ASTM 1143-81 Standard test method for piles under static axial
compressive load
The persistent slow speed load method is adopted in the test. The second grade
load will be applied before settlement of the first grade load is stable. The third
grade load will be applied before settlement of the second grade load is stable
and so on until 200% design load. Every grade load is 25 percent of estimated
bearing capacity limit per single pile. The first grade load can be added
according to double split grade load.
The reading will be observed at the time of 10min, 20min, 30min, 40min,
50min, and 60min within the first hour of load that is added during every grade,
and then once observation is conducted per 30min.

Criterion of settlement stable: the settlement shall not exceed 0.25mm per hour,
and does not occur twice continuously. (The calculation is based on thrice
continuous observed value within 1.5 hour ).
Conditions to stop adding load: When one of following conditions occurs,
adding load may be stopped.
a) Settlement of certain grade load is fivefold settlement under the action of
the load in front of one grade;
b) The steep dropping section on Load-Settlement Curve (Qs) can be used
to determine bearing capacity limit, and the total settlement of pile head
exceeds 80mm;
c) The settlement under the action of certain grade load is large than twice
settlement under the action of the load in front of one grade, and the
settlement cant be stable 24 hours late;
d) Tensile force of anchor piles exceed the limit value of uplift capacity, or
load reaches yield strength of pile body.
The unloading and observation of unloading settlement: The unloading value is
twice of adding load value. The residual settlement will be observed at the time
of 15min after certain unloading grade. After twice observation, the third
observation will be conducted 30min late, and then the load of one grade is
unloaded. Last observation is done at the time of 3~4 hour after entirely
unloading.

4.4.2. Lateral dead-load test of single pile
The test will be conducted according to ASTM D-3966-90 Standard test
method for piles under lateral load.
a) The lateral load as 25% of estimated vertical bearing capacity limit will be
applied to pile head by oil jack, using anchor piles steel beam reaction set.
Then lateral load will be applied by lateral oil jack.

b) The single direction polycyclic adding load and unloading method is
adopted. Every grade load is 25 percent of estimated bearing capacity limit
of single pile. The first grade load can be added according to double split
grade load. The load of each grade shall be maintained constantly.
The reading will be observed at the time of 10min, 20min, 30min, 40min,
50min, and 60min within the first hour of load that is added during every
grades.
c) Displacement observation: The reading will be observed at the time of
5min, 10min, and 15min within the first hour of every grade load, and then
once observation is conducted per 30min, as well as the records shall be
made. Until the displacement of one hour does not exceed 0.1mm, and twice
occur continuously, the stability is thought to be reached. Then, the load of
next stage can be added.
d) The lateral bearing capacity limit for per single pile is submitted when the
horizontal displacement of test pile is 10mm and 30mm. Adding load stops
when the horizontal displacement is bigger than 30mm.

4.4.3. Dynamic test of piles (for Unused Pile)
