ASSESSMENT TASK 1



Details:

Distributed: Term 2, Week 1
Due date: Wed 21

of May, 2014
Submission: Hard copy to be handed in to your History teacher by 8.45am. You must use a
word processor. No hand written reports to be submitted.
Weighting: 30% of total History mark for 2014
Time Required: Equivalent of one lesson of class time plus additional time at home as required.


Outcomes assessed:
HT4-2 A student describes major periods of historical time and sequences, events, people and
societies from the past.
HT4-3 A student describes and assesses the motives and actions of past individuals and groups
in the context of past societies.
HT4-6 A student uses evidence from sources to support historical narratives and explanations.
HT4-9 A student uses a range of historical terms and concepts when communicating an
understanding of the past.
HT4-10 A student selects and uses appropriate oral, written, visual and digital forms to
communicate about the past.

Presentation:

You must present a factual report, in booklet form. Your report needs to be based on real
historical experiences which have happened to your chosen individual.








THE TASK

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

Describe the life of a well-known Egyptian and assess their significance within
their time period.
Analyse sources for their usefulness and reliability in supporting historical
narratives and explanations.
Construct an account of the life of an Egyptian, describing the periods people and
society using sources as evidence for this account.
Communicate historical information using appropriate written forms and
including relevant historical terms and concepts.

Produce a booklet report that includes the following:

PART 1

(500 words)

You are to investigate the role of ONE significant individual in the ancient
Mediterranean world.

You can choose from the following people:

1. Hatshepsut
2. Ramesses II
3. Nefertari

Use the Internet and other resources to find out information about your chosen
individual.

Who was the individual?
What was their role?
Why are they a significant person?
Some interesting facts about the person.













PART 2

(500 words)

You need to identify at least 3 different sources relating to your chosen person.

You must include the following:

A picture of each source.
A description of the source.
Why you have chosen that particular source.
State if it is a primary or secondary source and why.


PART 3

(500 words)

Imagine you are ONE of the following:

1. The Pharaoh of Egypt
2. A priest at one of the important temples
3. A scribe
4. A peasant farmer in Egypt.

Again, using the Internet and other resources, find out more information about the role
you would have played in Egyptian society.

Write an account of your life and duties in ancient Egypt.
