Chapter 1: STARTING EPLAN

INSTALLATION
Insert the EPLAN CD into your ROM, and if your computer runs automatically,
You should see the the screen below. Select the program and setup language
and click INSTALL.
You should see the fig below. Select Next.

Now go to your desktop, shift + double click on EPLAN icon
Go to Local license and then Enter an unlock code

Chapter 2: USER INTERFACE

DIALOG
Dialog allow you to make and change setting, sort data, select command an
processes, manage data, edit properties and etc.
Dialog contain different controls element depending on their program function
and their specific use. The following sections provide information relating to the
different types of dialog.
Dockable Dialogs
The Page navigator, the device navigators and the Message management are
"dockable" dialogs. This means that these dialogs can be positioned anywhere
inside or outside the EPLAN main window, as with menus and toolbars.
Within the main window, you can position dockable dialogs at the top, left, bottom
or right of the window borders, and also dock them to other dockable elements.
Message And Notification Windows

These dialogs inform you about particular settings or possible errors, or require
you to answer a confirmation (security) question. The window size of these
dialogs cannot be changed.
Selection Dialogs
Selection dialogs offer objects for selection, such as the Navigators or Symbol
selection. In these dialogs, you can choose between a tree or list view of the data,
where the objects are displayed in a hierarchical structure in the tree view and
are alphanumerically sorted in the list view.
Selection dialogs have a "memory", i.e. when they are subsequently called up, as
far as it is possible they display the same information in the same manner as the
last time they were called up. A selection dialog that was closed with the List tab
in the foreground, will again show this tab when it is re-opened and will jump to
the line that was selected in the last editing operation. If this is not possible
(because the list sequence has changed, or the last selected object has been
deleted or renamed) then it jumps to the first line in the list. The same is naturally
true for the tree view: When re-opened, this automatically displays the most
recently opened branch in the hierarchy, as far as this is possible.
You can use filters to define the data to be displayed in both types of view.
Subsequent Dialogs
Some dialogs cause a subsequent dialog to be displayed. This is subordinate to
the calling dialog and is opened using a button. For this reason, the subsequent
dialog must be closed before further settings can be made in the first dialog.

Write Protected Dialogs
These dialogs contain data that can only be edited by users having specific
access rights. Other users without these rights can only read the data and may
not enter data.
A dialog may be completely write-protected or individual dialog elements, e.g. a
check box, may be write-protected because the data source is write-protected. In
such cases, the system refuses to accept the data entry and a message notifies
you of the missing access rights.
WORKSPACES
An EPLAN workspace includes the size and position of the EPLAN main window
as well as the positions, sizes and settings of the "dockable" dialogs, menus, and
toolbars. User-defined toolbars are also saved with a workspace.
This is handy, for example, for adjusting EPLAN to different project planning
tasks. You can switch to PLC editing at the "push of a button", for example, and
automatically open all of the dialogs you need for that whereby positions and
settings are already specified. All unnecessary dialogs are automatically closed.
Work areas can be saved as schemes at any time and then selected or deleted
at a later date. With EPLAN you can use several predefined work areas in the
Workspace dialog, which you can use as a template for future work areas, for
example. Just as you usually can with the schemes, you can also create, copy,
delete, import and export schematics for the work area by using a toolbar.
Define workspaces
You have opened a project and adjusted the user interfaces of EPLAN for certain
project planning task. To create a new workspace.

Go to view, workspaces
Select new as shown below:

Type in the new scheme name and the description name. Then click OK.
click OK.
In future, to call out a work space, go to view, workspaces, select the

workspaces you one.

TOOLBARS
As standard, the toolbars are located below the menu bar and consist of buttons
allowing you to directly call up the most important EPLAN functions. Toolbars can
be revealed and hidden using the popup menu: Click an empty area on the menu
or toolbar with the right mouse button and all available toolbars will then be
displayed and can be selected / deselected.
Non-available toolbar symbols are displayed grayed out.
As "dockable" control elements, you can position the toolbars anywhere on the
screen, even outside the EPLAN main window, by clicking and holding the left
mouse button on the toolbar title bar and then pulling it to the desired position.
Customized Toolbars
When you move the cursor over a symbol in a toolbar, then a small text window
is displayed below the symbol with a description. Whether or not these so-called
Tooltip boxes are displayed depends on the appropriate setting in the Adjust
dialog. An additional setting in the user interface settings allows you to specify
whether a possible key combination is also displayed in the text window.
The Adjust dialog also allows you to adjust and extend the toolbars. It is also
possible to combine frequent commands into a single toolbar.
In order to retain your personal and / or adjusted toolbars when changing
workspaces, you must save these as part of the current workspace. Using export
and import you can copy user-defined toolbars to other workspaces or make
them available to other users. You can also extend the toolbars with buttons
linked to other actions and menu items within the program.

Go to the commands tabs, select menu, search for utilities, reports, update.
Drag and place in the new toolbar then press OK.

KEYBOARD SHORTCUT
In EPLAN, you can edit and create key combinations assigned to particular menu
commands.

SCHEME
A scheme is a group of settings that are stored together under a particular name.
For most settings, there are standard schemes from EPLAN that you can't edit.
These are stored during the installation in their own directory (by default
under\Schemes\<Company name> on the drive and in the directory where
EPLAN is installed). There are (e.g.) schemes for labels, numbering settings for
devices, cables, workspaces etc.
If the default schemes do not suit all your needs, then you can create your own
user-defined schemes: Using the toolbar next to the Scheme field, you can create
schemes, save changes to a scheme, copy a scheme, edit schemes, or delete
schemes. Schemes can also be imported or exported.

WHAT IS A PROJECT?
In EPLAN, schematics and attached documents such as lists and overviews are
created as pages within projects. A project is a database in which, besides the
project pages, all master data used in the project (symbols, plot frames, forms,
parts data, etc.) is stored. Projects are stored and organized in a second
database the so-called project management.
OPENING A PROJECT
To call a project, go to PROJECT, OPEN.
Select the project you want to open, and click OPEN.

To copy a project
Go to your page properties, select the project you want to copy, press ctrl+c

COMPRESSING PROJECTS
This compression is a completely separate action from the project compression
function, and is performed by a separate EPLAN module which reorganizes the
project database. The function irretrievably removes any deleted pages from the
project and removes gaps in the database. The project can be examined at the
same time for data consistency. In addition, you can continue to edit a
compressed project with the standard EPLAN graphics functions. Only the
deleted pages can no longer be accessed.

BACK UP AND RESTORE PROJECTS
Back up
The backing up and forwarding of projects and master data are important parts of
project planning. Using the backup system, you can back up and restore all of the
data that you have created.
This field defined the method that EPLAN used for backing up data. For
automated backups, the "Extra storage" method is available. Here, the data is
compressed as a *.zw1 file and saved in the directory that you have selected in
the Backup directory field. The source project remains unchanged.

Restore
Projects can be restored from the page navigator and from the project
management.
As standard, all master data is restored on a project basis and then finally
compared with the master data pool. If differences exist, then you must decide
which data you wish to use.

PAGE NAVIGATOR
Collections of pages are created within the projects, containing the schematics,
terminal diagrams, cable diagrams, project descriptions (text), construction
drawings (graphical, DXF, etc.), photos (image files in various graphical formats),
etc. The average project size is approximately 300 pages. Large projects contain
tens of thousands of pages, usually split into several sub-projects.
EPLAN can manage projects of up to 100,000 pages.

To open a project, go to the pages navigator, select the pages you want, Just
press enter or double click on the pages.

In the page navigator and the graphical editor, you can view the properties of the
selected or currently open page. To see the page properties, go to your page

NUMBERING AND SORTING PAGES
The Number command allows you to subsequently renumber pages. In this
manner, pages within a project can be renamed and thus moved.
For automated allocation of page names, EPLAN suggests the next available
page name in the target project. Subpages are automatically incremented. For
DIN projects, the suggestion is group referenced. You can either retain the
suggested (start) page names, or change them. For several pages, you can also
customize the increment defaults.

PAGE TYPE
Every page is allocated to a particular page type. The page types help to
structure a project and accelerate the analysis processes, since non-relevant
pages can be skipped. All page types behave the same way in the page
navigator.
Pages are basically either logic pages or graphical pages: On Logic pages the
device data is analyzed and reported, and autoconnect lines are automatically
generated. This does not occur with Graphical pages; these are only used for
displaying data or for drawing graphics (but not schematics). The page types
"Schematic multi-line", "Schematic single-line", "Fluid power schematic" and
"Overview" are all logic pages, all other page types are graphical pages.
The page type is assigned when a page is created, but can be subsequently
changed. When a page type is changed, all other page properties remain
unchanged, the page is just analyzed and reported differently.

SYMBOL, FUNCTION, COMPONENT, DEVICE CONCEPT
Symbol
Symbols are needed to simplify the process of drawing the circuit plan. They
contain a multitude of information such as graphical elements, connection points,
the assignment to a symbol group, the logic, etc. The relationship between a
symbol and a function can appear as follows:
The symbol does not represent a function, such as an angle or a Tnode.
The symbol represents a function, such as an NO contact or an NC
contact.
The symbol represents multiple functions, such as a motor overload
switch or a triple fuse.
The symbol represents part of a function, such as a device connection
point or a change-over contact hook.
The symbol libraries are used to manage the symbols. A symbol library can
contain an unlimited number of symbols. When editing a symbol only the
changed symbol is opened and saved, not the entire symbol library. This
minimizes the problems that could arise when multiple users are working in one
library simultaneously.
Function
In EPLAN, the logical and graphical data are managed separately. Logical data is
stored in the function definitions, graphical data in the symbols. This separation is
significant when working with an engineering approach and offers a number of
additional advantages for a modern CAE product (such as standards
independence).
EPLAN supports both a graphics-oriented drawing interface (copy pages, add
macros, place symbols, etc.) as well as a logic-oriented interface based on an
engineering approach (working with devices, predefined listed, navigators, "use
existing", etc.).
If you work with the graphics-based interface you don't need to worry about
functions or function definitions. Function definitions are already assigned to the
symbols in the standard symbol libraries. You simply place a symbol or a macro
and the default assigned function definitions are automatically added.
If you work with the engineering interface or want to adapt reports, numbering,
etc., however, it is necessary to understand the concept of functions.

Component
A component is a graphical element for the representation of a function. It
consists of a function and a symbol. The function contains the logical data and
the symbol contains the graphical data. A component has a device tag,
connection designations, and so on.
Device Concept
Devices in EPLAN are divided into "general" devices (including motors, fuses,
valves, etc.) and "special" devices (including terminals, cables, PLC connection
points, black boxes, etc.)
The general devices or components in EPLAN have the following characteristics:
They are inserted using symbol selection.

EPLAN suggests a DT, which can easily be changed at any time.
They can be copied.
They can be deleted.
They can be labeled, and the label can be formatted individually.
They generate automatic connections (autoconnecting).
They are listed in the reports.
The logic of the underlying function can be changed so that the device
behaves differently (e.g., with respect to the display of crossreferences).
Cross-references are detected automatically and can be displayed.

DATA DIALOGS
Dialogs allow you to make and change settings, sort data, select commands and
processes, manage data, edit properties, etc.
Dialogs contain different control elements depending on their program function
and their specific use. The following sections provide information relating to the
different types of dialog.
Dockable dialogs
The Page navigator, the device navigators and the Message management are
"dockable" dialogs. This means that these dialogs can be positioned anywhere
inside or outside the EPLAN main window, as with menus and toolbars.
Within the main window, you can position dockable dialogs at the top, left, bottom
or right of the window borders, and also dock them to other dockable elements.
Message and notification windows

These dialogs inform you about particular settings or possible errors, or require
you to answer a confirmation (security) question. The window size of these
dialogs cannot be changed.

Selection dialogs
Selection dialogs offer objects for selection, such as the Navigators or Symbol
selection. In these dialogs, you can choose between a tree or list view of the data,
where the objects are displayed in a hierarchical structure in the tree view and
are alphanumerically sorted in the list view.
Selection dialogs have a "memory", i.e. when they are subsequently called up, as
far as it is possible they display the same information in the same manner as the
last time they were called up. A selection dialog that was closed with the List tab
in the foreground, will again show this tab when it is re-opened and will jump to
the line that was selected in the last editing operation. If this is not possible
(because the list sequence has changed, or the last selected object has been
deleted or renamed) then it jumps to the first line in the list. The same is naturally
true for the tree view: When re-opened, this automatically displays the most
recently opened branch in the hierarchy, as far as this is possible.
You can use filters to define the data to be displayed in both types of view.
Subsequent dialogs
Some dialogs cause a subsequent dialog to be displayed. This is subordinate to
the calling dialog and is opened using a button. For this reason, the subsequent
dialog must be closed before further settings can be made in the first dialog.
Write-protected dialogs
These dialogs contain data that can only be edited by users having specific
access rights. Other users without these rights can only read the data and may
not enter data.
A dialog may be completely write-protected or individual dialog elements, e.g. a
check box, may be write-protected because the data source is write-protected. In
such cases, the system refuses to accept the data entry and a message notifies
you of the missing access rights.

PLACING SYMBOLS
You can place a given symbol once or several times on schematic pages in the
graphical editor, however you cannot select multiple different symbols for a single
placement operation.
A preview of the autoconnection lines is shown in the graphical editor, which
shows where a connection from one symbol to another symbol is possible. As an
extra aid for placement, a line is also shown between the first placed symbol and
the current cursor position. This allows you to place symbols along a line.
Insertion points and connection points pointing in the same direction may not lie
on top of each other. If this occurs when inserting a symbol then an error
message is displayed and the action is cancelled. (Exceptions to this are symbols
containing opposing connections laid on top of each other at the same point, e.g.
T-connections.)

DEVICE TAGS
In EPLAN, all the symbols that we placed are numbered automatically. The
device numbering setting can be changed. To changed the device tags
numbering,
Option > Setting
Go to Projects > Project name > Devices > Numbering Online

Now go to Numbering Format column and select your desire device numbering.

POTENTIAL TERMINALS
The potential represents a particular voltage level at a particular time. It has the
same value before and after a fuse (in normal cases). The borders of a potential
are defined by the source and the consumer. By default, physical potentials end
at consumers, transformers or converters. A potential terminal is drawn in the
schematic in the same manner as a "normal" terminal. It is however, only
characterized by the connection properties, since it is not a separate item (e.g.,
earth connection point on a terminal strip).

EPLAN software comes with the standard components. All parts number are
divided into different type of category. Below figure is the type of the standard
components available in EPLAN.

T- CONNECTIONS ( CONNECTION SYMBOLS)
If the connection points of two symbols are horizontally or vertically opposite one
another, connection lines are automatically drawn between them
("Autoconnecting"). Only these autoconnect lines are recognized and reported as
electrical connections between symbols. Autoconnecting is only active in
schematic pages.
By inserting connection symbols such as angles, T-nodes, double junctions,
jumpers, and interruption points, you can influence the flow of automatic
connections.
Connection symbols are managed in the SPECIAL.slk symbol library. They
represent the flow of connections and have no function definitions.
The wiring model describes the logic within a symbol, that is, the connection
points between which a connection flows. It is saved as a property on the symbol.

BLACK BOXES
Black Boxes serve as the representation of devices for which no symbols exist. It
is a popular method of representing devices for which no symbol exists in a
symbol library prescribed by the end customer. Black boxes are used in various
different ways:
For devices / assemblies that are not in the symbol library

For devices / assemblies that are not complete in the symbol library,
e.g., with missing PE connection points
For representing PLC assemblies
For representing complex devices, e.g., frequency converters; these
devices are drawn over several schematic pages and cross-referenced
For representing several symbols under a single device tag, e.g., a
motor with brakes
For representing reserve cores in cables (without a black box the
"Conductor without target" error message is generated)
For nesting several device tags, e.g., for a device with several terminal
strips:
Device: -A1, terminal strips: -X1 and -X2
The nesting allocates the terminal strips the device tags -A1-X1 and A1-X2.
For allocating device tags to terminals, since the terminal DT can't be
moved (because otherwise the connection point designations would
also be moved), e.g., required due to a lack of space on the page.
For special protection devices that cannot be represented using the
normal symbols, but which must also display a contact image.

INTERRUPTION POINTS
Using an interruption point, a connection, a net, or a physical or logical potential
is inferred. The interruption point name can be the name of the logical potential.
In the process, no distinction is made between source and target interruption
point; the source and targets are automatically determined.
An interruption point can be connected at both sides. If this is not desired, the
connection can be inhibited by using a break point. An interruption point with an
open connection is therefore not an error.
As with all connection symbols, interruption points are also managed in the
symbol library SPECIAL.slk; they affect the flow of connections and have no
function definitions.

CROSS REFERENCES
The cross-reference is important in order to locate a component within a
multitude of
pages. For this reason, the cross-reference must uniquely designate the page
that is
being searched. An orientation within the page is also required, the column.
Since a
column can also be relatively large, the row provides a further orientation within
the
page.

PLUGS
Pins and plug definitions can be defined directly during the insertion of the
corresponding symbol. You can also predefine pins and plug definition in the plug
navigator or in the device navigator and place them from there (with the popup
menu). Plug definitions must be placed if you would like to copy them.

Update Connection
Connection properties are defined at four different locations: in the project
settings, at potential connection points, potential definition points, and connection

points. Connection data is not immediately automatically updated after changes.

can manually update them if you need to.

A connection can be interrupted using a break point.

Delete Connection
Connections are automatically deleted if you move a component in the schematic
and its connection points can no longer find its counterpart. Any existing
connection
definition points remain.

Smart connect allows the movement of symbols in the schematic while retaining

BUNDLES
Special symbol which makes it possible to transition from the multi-line to the
single-line display. These symbols are used to combine individual connections
into a bundle or to separate a bundle into individual connections.

CABLES
Cables can be defined using cable definition lines or shields. To do this, the cable
definition line or the shield symbol must cross the connections in question.

Chapter 6: MACRO
CREATING MACRO
In EPLAN you have the option of saving certain selected elements or areas of
project pages as window or symbol macros. In addition, you can save one or
more pages as page macros if you have either selected them in the page
navigator or opened them in the graphical editor. For all these actions, stored
image files are saved along with the macro.
Create window macros and symbol macros

Highlight the diagram you wish to save as a macro.
Edit > Create window macro or Edit > Create symbol macro.

Type in a file name and click ok
If necessary, select one or more variant designations for the macro in the
Variant field. This is an interesting option if you want to create different
variants for one macro. By default, one macro is saved as "variant A". You can
create up to eight variants for one macro under the same file name.
If desired, enter a description of the macro into the Description field. The text
entered here is displayed in a comments field when inserting macros and
simplifies the selection for you.
If the page scale should be taken into consideration when inserting macros,
you have to select the To page scale check box.
Click the Handle button if you want to manually determine the point in the
macro on which the cursor depends when inserting.

Create page macros
If the cursor is on a project page in the graphical editor, you can only save related
pages in a page macro. On the other hand, you also can't write unrelated pages
into
a page macro in the page navigator.

EPLAN now has the ability to insert a sections of a circuit (macro) with up to 8

EPLAN will automatically check whether the specified name is valid.

ONLINE DEVICE NUMBERING
Specifying Online Numbering Format
The online numbering format applies to devices that you newly place in the
schematic using the menu item Insert > Symbol. It also applies to copied
devices
and devices in newly inserted macros.

number of positions to be used for the DT counter and click OK.
Select all of the desired format elements sequentially. Pay attention to the
rules for the Online numbering format. Click OK.

Numbering Devices Online
When you insert new devices into the schematic then you can define that these
devices are to be automatically numbered.
A DT is determined and assigned online for every device that you insert. The
counter for DT is incremented by one in the process.

In the dialog Settings: Numbering (online) dialog, in the On symbol
insertion group box, select the Number option.

Settings for connection numbering are saved in schemes. This way you can

Chapter 8: PARTS MANAGEMENT

CONCEPT
Managing master data is especially important for supplier relationships and data
exchanges. For this reason, EPLAN provides a separate module which supports
the following actions:
Storage of the most important part-specific and supplier-specific information
and combination of this information with the project currently being edited
Management of multilingual information and different currencies
Conversion of prices between currencies when needed
Import and export of data, such as parts data from particular manufacturers.
All of the data sources are stored in a Microsoft Access database (*.mdb), and
the currently selected database is displayed in the title bar of the Parts
management dialog.

DEFINING PARTS PROPERTIES
Generic product group / Product group / Product subgroup:

In these fields, you can select a group from preselected entries. Depending on
the options selected under [Extras] > Settings for the tree view of single parts, the
parts are sorted in the tree appropriately, once the product group has been
changed.
Trade:
Add additional trades, the part that should belong to in this group box by selecting
the check boxes; depending on the hierarchical level at which the part was
created, the matching trade check boxes are grayed out and may no longer be
changed.
Select Fluid power and specify in the group box of the same name which fluidspecific subarea should contain the part.

Part number:
The part number identifies the part, that is, part numbers may only be used once
per hierarchical level. In the case of part variants, the combination of part and
variant number is the identifier. When saving parts or variants, this is
automatically selected.
Part numbers may be up to 50 characters in length.
When assigning part numbers, the organization of numbering should be chosen
with great care.
Type number:
In contrast to the part number, the type number, particularly for cables, is not
unique. The entry here should correspond to data from the manufacturer catalog
as far as possible.
Designation 1 / Designation 2 / Designation 3:
In these fields, additional specifications can be made for the part, for instance
also corresponding to the data in the manufacturer's catalog. They are not
subject to special processing, but they can be output in the bill of materials.
Manufacturer / Supplier
In these fields, you can use [...] to select the corresponding short and long names.
Direct entry of the short name is also possible, but the field for the long name
cannot be edited.
If you enter a short name which does not yet exist, you should enter the long
name and the other information (contact name, address, etc.) as soon as
possible using Popup menu > New (in the hierarchical level of manufacturers /
suppliers).
Order number:
Enter the order number of the part here if possible with the information of the data
in the manufacturer's catalog.
Description:
This field can also be used for additional data about the part and could, for
example, always be used for internal information.

Price unit:
Enter the price unit here which the purchase and sales prices are based on.
Quantity unit:
Select the appropriate unit for the part from the drop-down list, e.g., item, m, mm.
You can also enter a new unit manually.
Click
(Delete) to remove the current unit from the selection list.
Quantity/packaging:
Enter the number of units here which are contained in one packaging unit
Discount:
Enter the value here for a possible discount (in percent); for data transfer from
EPLAN 21, this field is automatically filled in with the corresponding value.
Purchase price/unit:
Enter the purchase price per unit here. There are two input fields available for two
different currencies. The currency units you define under [Extras] > Settings >
[Currency] as Currency 1 and Currency 2 are displayed (e.g., "EUR", "USD" etc.).
If the "Purchase price/unit" check box is selected under [Extras] > Currencies,
then the price will automatically be converted.

Purchase price/packaging:
Enter the purchase price per package here. There are two input fields available

Certification:
A certification or testing number can be entered for each part. This is a text
designation which is assigned based on a safety test. The following entry options
are available in this group box:
General: Select an entry from this drop-down list, or enter a new value for
the certification manually. Up to 50 alphanumeric characters may be
entered.
Click [x] to remove the current entry from the selection list.
UL certification: For this certification from Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
there is a dedicated entry field available: You can also enter up to 50
characters (letters and numbers). You can enter UL certifications, UL file
numbers, or other test numbers here.
VDE certification: For this certification from the Association for Electrical
Engineering, Electronics, Information Technology, there is also a dedicated
entry field. You can also enter up to 50 characters (letters and numbers).
CE certification: For this certification from the Communaut Europene, i.e.,
the European Union, select the check box if this certification is present.
Creator:
EPLAN automatically fills in this field with the username of the user who created
the record, as well as the date and time of the creation of the record, in which the
contents can't therefore be edited.
Last change:
EPLAN automatically fills in this field with the username of the user who last
edited the record, as well as the date and time of the last change, and the
contents can't therefore be edited.

Description:
In this field, enter the descriptive text for the property. The field is multilingual and
the input is limited to 25 characters.
Value:
Enter the value here that should be assigned to the property named "Description".
The field is multilingual, in which the input is limited to 200 characters.
Unit:
Enter the unit for the property entered under Value. Entry is limited to 10
characters.

Weight:
This field is for entry of the part's weight in kg.
Width / Height / Depth:
These fields are for entry of the device-specific dimensions in mm. When using
wiring systems (e.g., Ltze), the dimensional specifications correspond to the
mounting rail, the wiring cradle, or the perforation strip.
Space requirement:
This value is calculated when you select [Extras] > Space requirement. The
values from the Width and Height fields are used, in which the following formula
applied:
(w*h)/10000, where w = width and h = height.
Mounting site:
In order to mark different sites for panel layout, you can select an existing site
from the drop-down list.
External placement:
Check this check box if the part should be labeled as "externally placed" and thus
excluded from evaluation in panel layout (e.g., motors or generators).

Graphical macro:
The graphical macro creates a relationship between a part and the EPLAN macro
for the graphical representation of the part. Click [...] in this field to select the
desired macro file in the subsequent file selection dialog. Using the Preview
check box in the Graphical macro selection dialog, you can display the graphical
preview of the currently selected macro file.
Image file:
To assign an image file to the selected part or parts, click [...] in this field to select
the desired image file in the subsequent file selection dialog. Using the Preview
check box in the Image file selection dialog, you can display the graphical
preview of the currently selected image file.
Clip-on height / center mismatch:
If the part should not be centered, then place the gap here relative to the DIN rail.
Cabinet graphical macro:
The graphical macro creates a relationship between a part and the cabinet
graphical macro for the graphical representation of the part. Click [...] in this field
to select the desired macro file in the subsequent file selection dialog.
Use DIN rail:
Check this check box if DIN rail will be used for mounting.
Mounting clearance:
These fields are for entry of the device-specific mounting clearances in mm.
When using wiring systems (e.g., Ltze), the dimensional specifications
correspond to the mounting rail, the wiring cradle, or the perforation strip.
If you enter values in this field, then the space requirement calculation ([Extras] >
Space requirement) will use the following formula:
((w+wc) *(h+hc))/10000, where w = width, wc = width clearance, h = height, and
hc = height clearance.

Group number:
The group number is used to differentiate between individual parts groups.
Part type:
Part types are used to group parts of the same type; for instance, you can define
a grouping into power or auxiliary contacts with different numbers of NO and NC
contacts. Or you can group together heat or vibration sensitive components.
Simply mark the parts to be grouped and enter a maximum of 10 characters in
the "Part type" field.
Accessory code:
To support device selection with attention paid to accessory parts, it is necessary
to enter the same value in this field for parts to be combined with one another.
Identifier:
This field is for the entry of the identifier for the DIN component designation, such
as "M" for motors. During part selection in the graphical editor, parts and other
things can be filtered on this identifier.
Function group:
This field is for informational purposes and can be used, for instance, for filtering
during part selection. Entry is limited to 30 characters.

Wearing part:
According to DIN 50320, "Wear due to progressive loss of material from the
surface of a solid body, due to mechanical causes, that is, contact and relative
movement of a solid, fluid, or gaseous mass." Select an entry from this dropdown list, or enter a new value manually (for example "left lower bar" for the
position which is particularly subject to wear). Entry is limited to 16 characters.
Spare part:
Select an entry from this drop-down list or enter a new value manually (for
example, the name of the components which can replace the defective or worn
part). Entry is limited to 16 characters.
Lubrication / maintenance:
Select an entry from this drop-down list, or enter a new value manually (for
instance, for the maintenance schedule). Entry is limited to 16 characters.
Service time:
The lifetime, in engineering, denotes the time that a technical system or object
can be used without exchanging core components or a complete breakdown.
However, to reach the lifetime, maintenance work is often required.
Select an entry from this drop-down list, or enter a new value manually. Entry is
limited to 16 characters.
Stress:
The types of stress differentiate between mechanical movement values (static
and dynamic) and environmental influences (e.g., moisture, heat, chemical
reactions).
Select an entry from this drop-down list, or enter a new value manually. Entry is
limited to 16 characters.
Procurement:
Select an entry from this drop-down list, or enter a new value manually (for
instance, "2 week waiting period"). Entry is limited to 16 characters.
Macro:
Symbols can be combined in numerous variants and switching states into macros,
greatly accelerating schematic work. To assign such a macro to the selected part
or parts, click [...] in this field to select the desired file in the subsequent file
selection dialog. Using the Preview check box in the Macro selection dialog, you
can display the graphical preview of the currently selected macro file.
Construction:
In the product supergroup Construction, you can enter certain construction
elements (including the definition of drilled holes and the specification of
connection terminals). For instance, a drilling diagram for multiple similar parts
can be used. To define such a construction, simply select Popup menu > New on
the Construction level in the tree view, and enter the data into the tabs.
To assign these properties to certain parts, then, click [...] in this field and select

Connection points:
In the generic project group Connection points, you can define names for an
arrangement (i.e., a group) of connection points, and enter information about the
spatial arrangement of the connection points. To define such an arrangement,
simply select Popup menu > New on the Connection points level in the tree view,
and enter the data into the tabs.
To assign these properties to certain parts, then, click [...] in this field and select
the desired record in the Connection point selection dialog.

To enter up to three external documents for part and device data, click [...] and
select the desired document file in the following file selection dialog.

Part selection:
In this group box, you define the data to be reported in the Parts selection and in
the Import / Export of parts data. The data can be specified more than once per
part for all part types and product groups, namely once per variant.
Connection point designation: In this field, you can enter the electrical
connection point designation, entering line breaks, if necessary, using
the key combination [Ctrl] + [Enter].
Technical characteristics: Enter the appropriate values here. These are
taken into account during device selection, in that technical
characteristics entered for the part are transferred to the technical
characteristics of the function. For instance, for contactor coils there is
the option of transferring the coil voltage and the switching power into
the technical characteristics.
Symbol library / Symbol number: These two fields are relevant when
importing EPLAN 5 data. They can also be used for parts selection in
the graphical editor as filter criteria for the automatic filter.

Table "Device selection":
In the table, you define the data to be reported in the Device selection. The table
contains one line for each function definition of a part variant. The order of the
columns cannot be configured.

Placing Mounting Panels
When placing mounting panels on "Panel layout" pages, a distinction is made
between placing a part from the parts management system and "free" placement
using the properties dialog.
Place mounting panels from parts management

Project data > Devices / parts > Panel layout > Generate mounting panel
In the Part selection dialog, in the generic product group Mechanics, open
the hierarchy level Housing.

Select the desired housing part.
Click OK.
Place the symbol.
Enter a device tag in the Displayed DT field on the Mounting panel tab.
If necessary, assign further properties to the mounting panel.Click OK.

Placing Items on the Mounting Panel
When placing items on the mounting panel, a distinction is made between single
placement, multiple placement, and the placement of locked areas. For this the
installation spacing for every item / device must be stored in the parts data to
where
the device walls are not on top of each other, but rather next to each other. For
multiple placements, the clearances are automatically accounted for, otherwise
the
single placement and multiple placement interactions are identical.
Right click > Place on mounting panel.
Position the part placement on the mounting panel with a mouse click. Proceed in
this way for all additional part placements selected in the tree.
The newly placed parts are removed from the "Not placed" hierarchy level and
moved to the hierarchy level of the populated mounting panel.

Placing Items Without Schematic
In order to support the various working methods of builders and engineers, it is
also
possible to create panel layouts without an existing schematic.

Placing Items on the DIN Rail
As an alternative to equipping a mounting panel, the items can be placed on a
DIN
rail. An "Auxiliary function" for performing this is available, with which you must
define the position of the items. A DIN rail can currently be represented on a
"Line", a "Polyline", a "Closed polyline", a "Rectangle" or a "Spline". Not allowed
are "Circle",
"Ellipse", etc. The insertion point of the part placement is then placed on the
selected object. The clearances defined in the parts management are also
accounted for here when placing.
Generating Legends
Legends gather and display information, or store information from the graphic in a
free area.If the legends are created on the same page where the mounting panel
is located,then we speak of a Window legend; Window legends are freely
positionable
graphical objects, and have an insertion point and symbol properties, and / or a
device tag. The legend can also be output as a separate form. In this case no
legend is shown in the graphical editor on the panel layout page. However, items
will display item numbers but no device tags. We call this type of legend a Page
legend.

For every mounting panel, a Window legend is generated as the standard. To

Updating the Main Elements
Once the part placements have been generated, and thereafter the components,
alignment problems may occur since different data can exist for the placements.
The
main function usually thereafter has no part references because there may be
one or
more placements matching the devices. This menu item allows all of the part
references to all of the relevant part placements to be adopted in the main
function,
where the device to be updated must be selected in the graphical editor or the
panel
layout navigator.

Using Jump Functions
Jump functions allow jumping to all cross-referenced "Parts" of a particular item,
where the main function is always jumped to.
Select the item to whose graphical representation in the graphical editor you

FIND AND REPLACE
Finding Project Data
You can start a search from a variety of different locations:
from the graphical editor

In the Find dialog enter the search term in the Find what field.
Use the check box to determine whether upper / lower case will be taken into
account during the search, and whether only entire texts (i.e. exactly as the
text is entered into the input field) will be searched.
In the Search in group box you can specify the objects in which you would like
to search for the term. Select the check boxes for the objects in which you
would like to search.
Define the search location in the Search location group box. For searches in
the graphical editor you can exclude certain page types from the search here.
If you begin searching for multiple selected pages, the corresponding page
types are preset. Select the check boxes for the page types in which you
would like to search for the term.
Specify the list of results in which you would like to save the search results.
Click OK.

Replacing Project Data

After the search, you can select project data and begin replacing the existing
values
with other ones.

Configuring Project Checks
Project data > Messages > Check project
Click [...] next to the Settings field of the Check project dialog.
In the dialog Settings: Messages and checks, select a user-defined scheme

from the dropdown list, or create one using the toolbar.

Select a message class on the left in the list.

Use the drop-down list in the Category field to determine whether the
message should be displayed as an error, a warning, or a note.
Use the drop-down list in the Type of check field to determine whether the
check should be run both online and offline (setting "Online / offline") or only
offline (setting "Offline"), or whether the corresponding check should not be
run (setting "No").
Click OK.

Checking Project Data
You can check projects online or offline. For online checking, the list of messages
in
message management is filled directly during project planning. If you check
particular pages or want to update the display of message management, it is
necessary to start a check run.
Check offline
You have opened a project. You have selected one or more pages or a project in
the
page navigator, or you have opened a page in the graphical editor.
Project data > Messages > Check project
In the Check project dialog, select a scheme from the Setting drop-down list,
which specifies the settings for the check run. Via [...] open the Settings:
Messages and checks dialog, where you can define your own scheme.
If you have selected individual pages for the check or have called the dialog
from the graphical editor, you can still extend the check run to the entire
project. To do so, select the Apply to entire project check box.
Click OK.
Select the menu item Project data > Messages > Management.

Chapter 12: REPORTS

ASSIGNING TYPE OF FORM
Utilities > Reports > Generate
Select [Settings] > Output to pages.

In the Report type column, decide on a report type.
In order to assign a form to the report type, click on the corresponding line in
the Form column, and select "Browse..."
To preview a form, select the form and activate the Preview check box.
To accept the selected form, click [Open].
Creating a Report Template

You can specify settings for reports in a report template. These settings can
always
be reused when generating new reports. Report templates can be generated
completely from scratch or based on an existing report.
Select the Templates tab.
Click [New].
Select a report type in the Select report dialog and click [OK].

In the Filter / sorting - <Report type> dialog, select schemes for the filtering,
sorting, and page breaks, and click [OK].
In the <Report type> dialog, specify a start page for the report.

Creating a Report From a Template
If you generate a report from a report template, then you no longer need to
specify all the settings. All settings already specified in the template are used for
the report.
In the Reports - <project name> dialog, select the Templates tab.
Select a template and click [Generate report].

Generating Project Reports
If you report on the entire project, then reports are generated from all existing
report
templates. In addition, all existing reports are updated.
Select the menu item Utilities > Reports > Generate project reports.

[New].

PRINT
You can print single pages or all pages of a project. You have the option of
changing
the output of the project pages by using the print settings.

In the Print dialog in the Printer group box, select the desired printer from the
drop-down list.
In the Page range group box, you can determine whether you would like to
print the currently selected pages or all of the pages in the current project.
If you called up the Print dialog from the graphical editor, you can print either
the page currently in the foreground or all of the project pages.
Enter the number of copies and the collating order.

Use [Settings] to open the Print settings dialog in order to change the other
settings there.
With [Print preview] you have the option of checking the results of your
settings before printing. You can use [Back] and [Next] to page through the
pages selected for printing.
Start the print process using [OK] in the Print dialog or with [Print] in the
Print preview dialog.

To export project pages as a PDF file, proceed as follows:
In the page navigator, select the pages of a project (or the entire project) that
you wish to export.

Exporting Pages in DXF / DWG Format
When exporting individual project pages or an entire project in DXF / DWG format,

file is generated for every selected page.

the Source field.

In the Scheme field, select an appropriate scheme from the drop-down list. Or

can view the settings here for the standard scheme, and also create and edit
your own schemes. In the settings you also specify the file type (DXF or DWG)

In the Target field of the DXF / DWG export dialog, specify the target
directory for the files to be generated, or click [...] to select it interactively.

the entire project.

Importing Pages in DXF / DWG Format
Page > Import > DXF / DWG
In the DXF / DWG file selection dialog, specify in the Files of type field
whether only DXF or only DWG files, or both file types, should be displayed.
If necessary, navigate to the directory containing DXF or DWG files. Select the
desired file(s) and click Open.

FINDING THE NEW DEVICE TAG
Go to one of you symbol, double click
In the displayed DT Box either right click > Find new DT or and simply use a
short cut key [Ctrl+N ].
PLACING A DEVICE WOTHOUT OPENING THE BOX PROPERTIES

When placing across several connections, keep the left hand mouse button
pressed. The left hand mouse button can be released when the line for multiple
placement is displayed.

Drag across several connection, with left hand mouse button is pressed.

PREDEFINATION OF THE IDENTIFIERS
Standardized all your DT numbering identifier with just one time setting. For
example coil is to be numbered as CR1, CR2, CR3 instead of K1, K2, K3.
ULTILITIES > MASTER DATA > IDENTIFIER

Type in the designation name and click ok
