When God turns our world upside down, its
often because we did not have it right side
up to begin with. The discovery that we were
overreacting, narrow-minded or just plain
wrong about something actually contains a lot
of life, despite how it may feel in the moment.
The enemy doesnt want us to see God clearly,
and he has years of experience in playing
with our heads and infltrating deception into
our thinking. One of his favorite weapons is a
stronghold, which is an attitude or belief that
dulls our ability to recognize God and what He
is doing; it is a system of logic rooted in a lie
that we have come to believe as truth.
Strongholds keep us from seeing God for who
He actually is. They veil our eyes and deceive
us into thinking thoughts that do not align with
His Word.
Some would probably argue that imperfect
theology is not truly deception, but I think
it is - a low-level type of deception based on
strongholds we have allowed to form in our
thoughts.
There is no shame in having imperfect
theology. If there were, all of us would be in
trouble because none of us has a fawless
understanding of who God is and how He
works in the universe. We are in the process
of maturing and growing, and our Father wants
to give us a better, clearer picture of who He
is. He wants to surprise us with His love and
goodness.
The Lord once shared with me, I will never tell
anyone they had great theology. The truth is
that compared to Him, all of our theology is
trite.
It is far too confning. Its shallow. He is God. He
is Adonai, the One who declares:
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:9
David asked,
What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
Psalm 8:4
When God measures our theology by His
standards, the best, most accurate theology in
the world seems to shrink down into a small
square of holey fabric. I think theology is very
important, but Gods perfection will always
make theological perfection seem small in its
understanding. God is bigger than our craziest
hopes. He is more than we could ever imagine
and is far beyond our descriptions of Him.
Sometimes the best thing that could happen
to us is getting turned on our headsso we
suddenly have a better perspective. We stare

at Him and say, My God, I didnt know You were like that. Why
have I never seen this about You before? How did I not know
this about You?
LEAD ME NOT
Jesus taught us to pray, Lead me not into temptation. This
applies to theology just as much as it applies to anything else.
Father God, lead me away from the things in my mind that
would cause me to lean toward temptation. Lead me away
from the mental strongholds, opinions, false doctrines and

everything else that could cause me to lean toward darkness
and not toward Your light and truth.
Every time we realize God is bigger than the limits we have put
on Him, the awe builds within us. Our eyes get a little wider.
Our vision becomes a little clearer. Were able to let go of small
opinions and small understanding to grasp something that is
truer and more real than what we had before.
