It is a great honour, privilege & a matter of great pleasure for me to present the 4rth
Annual Day Report 2013-2014 of Ranganathan Polytechnic College.
Genesis & Growth:
Ranganathan Polytechnic College was established in the year 2010 by the
Ranganathan Rajeawari charitable trust. According to Dr.A.P, J. Abdul kalam, there is
a need for complete integration & Convergence of enriched, flexible & marketable
education so as to cope up with new demands. Bearing this in mind, RPCT was
promoted by Dr.R.Murugesan in the year 2006. By the Trust, the first established
institution is Ranganathan Engineering College in the year 2007. RPC &RAC was
started in the year 2010.
Ours is a campus situated in a Healthy environment, ideally suited for studies,
Scholarly reflection & Sports.
Student Strength:
We have a total strength of 500 in the four branches.
Courses Offered:

Assessment of students performance:
Two Internal Assessment examinations and three model examinations are conducted
compulsorily by exam cell in every semester as per the schedule mentioned in the
calendar.

In addition to above, five unit tests are conducted under department level to enhance
the academic performance. The proposed dates of tests is included in academic
calendar and displayed in our website before reopening of college after vacation. The
students are required to prepare well in advance for these exams to achieve
academic excellence.
In order to improve the academic performance of students, first hour of every day is
allotted for daily tests. In addition, special coaching classes are conducted daily after
working hours 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
For the benefit of students community and to improve their performance, our
polytechnic staff members prepared one mark question and answer for the all the
subjects in their curriculum and uploaded in our polytechnic website. Apart from our
students, any student from any college can download the same from our website.

1. N.LEELA,VI sem ECE scored 98.8% marks in October 2013 Board
examination conducted by DOTE.

II-Year Mechanical Engineering Students produced 40.2% result.
II-Year Automobile Engineering Students produced 31.3% result.
II-Year Electrical and Electronics Engineering Students produced 50% result.
II-Year Civil Engineering Students produced 36.6% result.
II-Year Electrical and communication Engineering Students produced 61.1% result.


Activities - RPC Continuing Education cell
The Continuing Education Cell was established in Ranganathan polytechnic college
with the aim of updating and enhancing the knowledge of working professionals,
students and entrepreneurs. It aims to serve the needs of variety of industries,
business and community.
1. RPC Continuing Education cell arranged two week intensive Automobile
Servicing and maintenance course in association with ambal autos,
Coimbatore from 22/11/2013 for Automobile Engg and Mechanical Engg
students.
2. A Guest Lecture was organized by RPC Training & Continuing Education cell
on the topic GLOW NITRO ENGINE and it was delivered by M.Dineshprabhu,
Phoenix Technologies on 25-11-2013.
3. A Guest Lecture was organized by RPC Training & Continuing Education cell
on the topic CAD/CAM and it was delivered by B.Lawrence, A+ CADD
Centre ,Coimbatore on 28-11-2013
4. RPC Training and placement cell in collaboration with IEI Students chapter
organized a seminar on Personality Development for final year Diploma
students. Prof.Thomas.Gnanasekaran,SSI Industries,Coimbatore was the chief
guest and interacted with students.
5. A Guest Lecture was organized by RPC Continuing Education cell on the topic
Effective Interview Preparation and it was delivered by Vijey Ramalingam,
Functional Head,OSRAD, Coimbatore on 06-12-2013
6. RPC Continuing Education organised two day Cell Phone Servicing &
Maintenance course in association with Newgen Technical services,
Coimbatore from 19/12/2013& 20/12/2013 for ECE & EEE students.
7. A Guest Lecture was organized by RPC Continuing Education cell on the topic
3D Structural Analysis for civil engineering students and it was delivered by
B.Lawrence, A+ CADD Centre ,Coimbatore on 28-11-2013
8. A Guest Lecture was organized by RPC Training and Placement cell on the
topic Industrial Automation and it was delivered by Er S.Sathesh, Project
manager, AGIT, Coimbatore on 08/01/2014
Activities- IEI student chapter
RPC IEI Students Chapter is sponsored by the Institution of Engineers (India),
Kolkata.It has been functioning in our Polytechnic College from the year 2011. The
activities are supervised and monitored by a staff Advisor.
In order to ensure overall development of students, various activities such as
Technical Seminars, Technical Quiz, Group Discussion, Worksites &
Industrial/Exhibition visits, Model making contests, Mock interview, Personality
Development Programmes, Industrial training programmes, Counseling Sessions,
Lectures of Moral and Ethical values, Management skills etc., are being arranged
regularly in our Institution. The winners of the classroom activities are awarded with
Merit Certificates and Prizes. As a testimony to the outstanding performance of our
IEI Students Chapter, we were awarded as All india level Third Best Polytechnic
college Student Chapter Dr.Amitabha Battacharya Memorial Trophy for the
year 2012. Er.D.Prabakaran, Principal and Er.G.Senthilkumar, Vice principal
received the award from Dr.D.Raju Narayanasamy IAS at annual convocation
function held at Visvesvaraya Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram on 20-10-2013.
The award is given in appreciation of the excellence in various technical activities
such as Technical Seminars, Technical Quiz, Worksites & Industrial/Exhibition visits,
Personality Development Programmes, Industrial training programmes of our
polytechnic college IEI students chapter.
Activities during academic year 2013/2014
1. RPC IEI Students chapter organized a special lecture on topic SOLID WASTE
MANAGEMENT on 12.02.2014 for I year students.
2. RPC IEI Students chapter organized a special lecture on topic
ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION on 10.02.2014 for I year students.
3. One day workshop on Computer Networking was organized by the
Ranganathan polytechnic college IEI Students chapter in association with
Department Electronics and communication Engg on 07-02-2014. Er
D.Sathishkumar, Senior Software Engineer at ICC World was the resource
person.
4. Field visit to District Science Centre, Coimbatore for Basic Engineering
students on 30/1/2014.
5. Our IEI students chapter organized state level technical symposium QUEST-
2014 on 31-01-2014. More than 123 students from 20 polytechnic colleges
presented technical papers on the topics Recent Developments in Wireless
Communication, Real Time Applications of Embedded System, Real Time
Applications of Micro controller and VLSI Technology. Er.K.Sumathi,
HOD/ECE, Sankara Polytechnic College was the Chief Guest of the event and
distributed prizes & certificates to Participants.
6. Our IEI students chapter organised state level technical symposium CARNOT
2014 on 29-01-2014. More than 75 students from 15 polytechnic colleges from
Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry presented technical papers on the topics
Alternative Fuels, Green Engine, Pollution Prevention and Control, Hybrid Car,
Bio-diesel and Recent Trends in Automobile Engineering. Dr Sivakumar, CEO,
Ranganathan Educational institutions was the Chief Guest of the event and
distributed prizes & certificates to Participants.
7. Ranganathan Electrical Engineers Technical Association , Petroleum
Conservation Research association (PCRA) & IEI Students Chapter IEI
Students chapter organized State level Seminar on Energy Efficiency A
key factor for Productivity on 24-01-2014. About 100 students from various
polytechnic colleges are participated in the seminar.
8. RPC IEI Students chapter organized a factory visit to BSES Kerala Power
Combined Cycle Power Plant, Ernakulam for ECE students on 24/1/2014.
9. Our IEI Students chapter organized State Level Technical Symposium
CONTRAFLEXURE-2014 in association with Department of Civil
Engineering on 20-01-2014. About 75 students from various polytechnic
colleges are participated and presented their technical papers related to the
topics Solid Waste Management, Advanced Construction Materials, Green
Building, Earthquake Resistant Structures and Modern trends in transportation.
Dr K.Perumal, HOD-Civil, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Polytechnic
College was the Chief Guest of the event and distributed prizes & certificates
to participants.
10. With a view to encourage and popularize scientific temper among the school
students, our IEI student chapter organized a science exhibition RPC
SCIENCE EXPO 2014 on 10-01-2014. Around 400 students, under 120 teams,
exhibited 180 models themed on five topics: implementation of natural
resources through modern technology, eco-system, electronics in day-to-day
life, energy conservation and environment pollution and its control. The
exhibition was inaugurated by Dr R.Murugesan, chairman of Ranganathan
educational institutions.
11. A Guest Lecture was organized by IEI student chapter on the topic 3D
Structural Analysis for civil engineering students and it was delivered by
B.Lawrence, A+ CADD Centre ,Coimbatore on 28-11-2013
12. RPC Continuing Education cell and IEI student chapter arranged two day Cell
Phone Servicing & Maintenance course in association with Newgen
Technical services, Coimbatore from 19/12/2013 for ECE & EEE students.
13. Ranganathan Polytechnic college Amateur Radio Club and IEI Students
chapter conducted a guest lecture on Amateur radio Indian wireless
telegraph (amateur service) on 16th December 2013, 1.30 pm at seminar
Hall. About 50 students and SWLs from Coimbatore and Thiruppur attended
the programme.
14. A Guest Lecture was organized by RPC Training and Placement cell and IEI
student chapter on the topic Effective Interview Preparation and it was
delivered by Vijey Ramalingam, Functional Head,OSRAD, Coimbatore on 06-
12-2013.
15. A Guest Lecture was organized by RPC Training and Placement cell and IEI
student chapter on the topic CAD/CAM and it was delivered by B.Lawrence,
A+ CADD Centre ,Coimbatore on 28-11-2013
16. RPC Amateur Radio Club in association with IEI students chapter conducted
an ASOC Exam introduction and preparatory programme on 28th
November 2013, 1.30 pm at seminar Hall for registered students.
17. RPC Training and placement cell in collaboration with IEI Students chapter
organized a seminar on Personality Development for final year Diploma
students. Prof.Thomas.Gnanasekaran,SSI Industries,Coimbatore was the chief
guest and interacted with students.
18. A special guest lecture on Importance of value added courses for diploma
students was arranged and delivered by N.Vijayalakshmi, Assistant
professor, Annamalai university in association with IEI students chapter and
RPC Training and placement cell on 26/11/2013.
19. A Guest Lecture was organized by RPC Training and Placement cell and IEI
student chapter on the topic GLOW NITRO ENGINE and it was delivered by
M.Dineshprabhu, Phoenix Technologies ,Coimbatore on 25-11-2013.
20. A special guest lecture on Oilfield Engineering and Quality Control was
arranged and delivered by Biju Nair,Marketing Manager,Induscan petroleum
institute in association with IEI students chapter on 22/11/2013.
21. Ranganathan Polytechnic students participated Diabetic awareness rally on
the World Diabetic Day (14-11-2013) organized by Vaasan eye care and RPC
IEI Students chapter.
22. RPC IEI Student chapter organised a guest lecture on How to obtain
Education loan by MS Chandrasekaran MA BL, Divisional Manager, Canara
bank on 7/10/2013.
23. An eye camp was held at our Ranganathan polytechnic campus on 11-10-
2013. The camp, jointly organised by Vasan Eye Care Hospital, RPC IEI
students chapter and faculty of basic science was inaugurated by
D.Prabakaran, Principal. A large number of students and staffs got themselves
screened at the camp.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT
To understand the practical usages and applications of theories, the following
industrial visits were organized for the students.
1. An industrial visit to MGM water treatment plant for Mechanical engineering students on
8.02.2014.
2. A Field visit to District Science Centre, Coimbatore for Basic Engineering students on
30/1/2014
3. A factory visit to BSES Kerala Power Combined Cycle Power Plant, Ernakulam for ECE
students on 24/1/2014.
4. An industrial visit to KRISHNA RAJASAKAR DAM for civil engineering students on
08.02.2014.
5. An industrial visit to Genlite Engineering PVT Ltd., Chennai for EEE
students on 14.02.2014.

Activities - RPC ham radio club
1. RPC Ham radio club arranged a Guest lecture on Introduction to
Amateur radio by Mr. M. Shanmuga Sundaram, VU2FOT on 05-09-2013
2. RPC Amateur Radio Club conducted an ASOC Exam introduction and
preparatory programme on 28th November 2013, 1.30 pm at seminar
Hall for registered students.
3. RPC Ham Radio Club conducted a guest lecture on Amateur radio -
Indian wireless telegraph (amateur service) rules on 16th December
2013, 1.30 pm at seminar Hall.
4. World Radio day celebrated in Ranganathan Polytechnic college on
13.02.2014.This event was organized by RPC Ham Radio club and IEI
Student chapter.
5. RPC Ham radio club arranged special training classes for students who are
interested in maintaining and using wireless radio equipments in their
home. More than 80 students registered to appear for ASOC Exam to be
conducted by ministry of communications.
6. For your information, ASOC EXAM will be conducted at our polytechnic
college by ministry of communications on 23rd march 2014.

Conclusion:
Before concluding this report, I would like to thank chairman of our Trust Dr.
R.Murugeasan and our chairperson Dr.Tamilarasi murugesan for their guidance
and co-operation in each & every aspects of our efforts to bring up this institution.
I recognize the selfless and sincere services of all my colleagues, both teaching
and non-teaching, without their support and team work we would not have grown
to this level. I want to be thankful to all faculty members for their co operation towards
reaching goal. My heartfelt thanks to our parents for their co operation. Thank you one and
all.

I thank the Management for the continuous support, the Founder for gracing the campus during this year
and for the total support given by our chairperson and the Secretary & Correspondent and for their keen
interest in the day-to-day activities.
I thank the faculty, the management and supporting staff for their co-operation and I seek their
continued support in the future. Let us all strive and work together to build up this Institution into a
model Engineering College of repute.
