Animal Adaptations Caf

NAME_____________________________

Directions

Over the next few weeks we will be learning about animal
adaptations. You will use this learning menu to guide you in
gaining knowledge related to the content in this unit. As
you would in a restaurant, you will choose a main course,
side dishes, and a dessert. After completing each item,
have a classmate and/or the teacher sign off to
indicate that you have completed it to the best of your
ability.

Main Course: All students must complete this activity
before or after completing the side dishes.

Side Dishes: You may choose any two side dish activities.
These may be completed before or after your main course.

Dessert: You may have your dessert only after you have
had your main course and side dishes.

***Remember that you can complete the main dish or side
dishes in any order that you prefer, but they have to be
completed first before you can have any dessert!

ANIMAL PHYSICAL AND BEHAVIORAL
ADAPTATIONS
You will choose any animal, and conduct research about that
animals habitat including any physical or behavioral
adaptations that animal utilizes in order to survive. You may
use books and magazines from the classroom library and/or
school library. You will need to write three paragraphs, and
draw a picture of the animal that you choose. Make sure that
you color your picture neatly utilizing the classroom markers
and crayons! (Individual)

WRITE A SONG OR RAP
Make up a song or rap about animal adaptations. Incorporate
at least four key terms that we have been learning about
(camouflage, mimicry, hibernation, migration, dormancy,
instinct, and/or learned behavior) into your lyrics. Once your
song and/or rap has been written, you must present the song
by singing it in front of the class. Instruments can be
included!
(Individual or partner)

Signature___________________________
Pick three animals that live in different habitats/areas of
the world. Tell us about how they adapt in their habitats.
Your poster and/or power point will be presented in front of
the class. Make sure to add colorful pictures! (Individual).

WEBQUEST MOVIE
Watch a movie (the movie can be accessed on our class
Portaportal) about human and animal adaptations utilizing the
classroom computer and/or iPads! After watching the video,
use your science notebook to write and/or draw anything that
you remember from the video. Write a paragraph answering
the following questions:
What did you learn about in the video?
What are you still confused about after
watching the video?
What do you want to learn more about from the
information that you gathered from watching
the video?

MAKE A BROCHURE
You are a scientist who wants to share with the public your
concerns regarding negative occurrences (i.e. deforestation,
oil spills) in our everyday environment. Specifically you want
to share how the negative occurrence affects the way
animals adapt. Create a brochure selecting one negative
occurrence and one animal, and explain how that negative
occurrence can affect the way that a specific animal adapts
in the environment. In addition, talk about what we can do to
help eliminate this negative occurrence. Use the links on our
classroom Portaportal and/or classroom library books to help
create your brochure. Make sure it is colorful and
informative! (Individual).

CREATE A GAME
Create a game concerning anything that we have learned from
our animal adaptations unit thus far. Make sure you write out
the instructions on how to play the game on either a
classroom computer or by using neat handwriting. After
making the game, find 2-3 classmates to play your game with
during any free time. Be creative! (Individual or Partner)

DESSERT
1) Complete another side dish.
2) Choose a book from the animal adaptations bin
and write down three interesting facts that you
learned from the book. Share your facts with a
classmate!
3) Write a letter to the teacher telling her what you
liked and/or didnt like from this learning menu
and why.
4) Create your own science quiz about animal
adaptations. You must have at least 5 questions.
Make an answer key for the quiz. This can be
handwritten or typed on the computer.
5) Write a short story about any animal, and explain
how that specific animal adapts in order to
survive in his/her environment. Make sure you
include colorful illustrations!
