Sir Isaac Newton

(1642-1727)

He was an English mathematician, physicist, and astronomer

considered to be the greatest genius in the world has ever known. His work
optics, corpuscular theory of light, gravitation and motion represented the
greatest achievements of the time. All his writings were compiled in his
book, the Principia.

Melecio s. Magno
Born: May 24, 1920

Dr. mango has done studies on the absorption and flourecence spectroscopy of
crystals, specifically rare earth; crystals; effects of typhoons on the distribution of
gravitation and the philosophy of science. He is a Co. Author of the Philippines.
Dr. Magno was UP Proffessional Chair Holder in Physics from 1973-1976 and recipient
of a UNDP-WMO Fellowship in Environmental Physics and Ozone Research in 1974.
He became Vice President when Disappointed Chairman of National Science
Development Board (NSDB), and in 1978, when (NSDB) became a ministry and the first
minister of science.

Eduardo Padlan
Born: August 31, 1940

In recognition of his outstanding contributions and accomplishments in biophysics,

specifically the elucidation of the 3-D structure of hemoglobin and antibodies in relation
to the evolution and function. His most recent work on humanized antibodies has
potential application in the treatment of various diseases including cancer. He has
fourteen granted and pending parents an various aspects and uses of antibodies.
Dr. Padlan has contributed to the strengthening of S @ T in our country in the
fields of molecular biology teaching several universities during his regular visits to the
country.

10
Galileo Galilei
(1564-1642)

He was a mathematician, physicist, and astronomer. He introduced a new way of

thingking, that of making science mathematical. He established mathematical laws
describing the motion of falling bodies, projectiles, and the pendulum. He was the first to
raise the telescope to the sky to study the universe.
Madame Marie Curie
(1867-1934)

She is the first woman in the world to win the Novel Prize for physics. She won for the
discovery of radioactivity in 1903, together with her husband Pierre Curie and colleague
Henry Becquerel. She was also the first person ever to receive two Novel Prize awards.
She alone was awarded the Novel Prize for chemistry for the isolation of pure radium in
1911.

15
Irene Joliot Curie
(1897-1956)
She is a physicist and an assistant to her famous mother Marie Curie, was
awarded the Novel Prize for chemistry in 1935. She, together with her husband Frederic,
received the award for discovering artificially radioactive.

14
Amador Muriel
Born: November 24, 1935

In recognition of his significant works and outstanding contributions to the field of

the oretical physics, in particular, hios development of theorical tools to explain
turbulence. His new kinetic equation is useful for exploring fundamental problems of non
equilibrium statistical mechanics. In his researches on stellar dynamics, he has proven
analytically thatself-gravitation alone is sufficient to produce a hierarchy of structures in
one dimension.

7
Nicolas Copernicus
(1473-1543)
He publish the revolutionary helioncentric theory of the planetary system,
positing that the planets revolved not around the earth but the sun. As Goethe later
observed “ Of all discoveries and opinions, none may have exerted a greater effect an the
human spirit than the doctrine of Copernicus. The world made scarcely become known as
round and complete in itself when it was asked to wave the tremendous privilege of being
the center of the universe. Never, perhaps, was a greater demand made on mankind”.

Tito A. Mijares

December 6, 1922

Dr. Mijares conducted studies concerning multi-variety theory and

analysis which were published in the Annals of Mathematical Statistics, an international
journal.

As Deputy Director-General of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA)

and Executive Director of the National Census and Statistics Office (NCSO) for a number
of years, Dr. Mijares was elected to membership in international statistical system in the
country.

For his Achievement in statistics, Dr. Mijares was elected to membership in international
statistical groups such as the Statistical Institute of Asia and the Pacific, International
Statistical Institute, and the Institute for Vital Registration.

Casimiro del
Rosario
October 11, 1944

He became famous because of his works on soft x-rays.

Dr. del Rosario, aside from researching and experimenting, also headed the Philippine
Weather Bureau for 11 years and was vice-chair for the National Science Development
Board.

He was awarded the Presidential Award in 1965 for his oustanding works in physics,
meteorology and astronomy.

Physicist

Introduction

Most physicist work in research and development. Some do basic research

to increase knowledge. Other do applied research. They take what islearned in basic

research and use it to create new devices, products and processes. They also study the

natural world, from the tiniest subatomic particles to the largest galaxies. They do

experiments to discover the laws of nature. They study what things are made of matter

and how things behave. They also study the energy, then they used observation and

mathematics to find the answer.

Physicist study a wide range of physical phenomena in branches of physics

spanning all length scale from subatomic particles which all ordinary matter is made to

the behavior of the material. Some physicist focus on theories. “They ask big question”.

They might ask what causes gravity, for example, or what the shape and sizes of the

univers is. Then they use observation and mathematics to find the answer. Physicist also

design research equipment. Some f this equipment is use in surprising ways. For

example, the first laser was created for research but people later discovered that lazers

could be used in surgery as well. Other physicist apply theories to practical problems.

They might create advance materials, new electronic and optical devices for medical

equipment.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like to acknowledge several persons who read this research with diligence and

care. They serve as inspirations and also with my parents who help me to guide this kind

of activities while this research is an the process. And lastly to those who offered so

many suggestions that have resulted to a significant result.

Dedication
This research were dedicated to the students who wants to study and

learn more about science, specially to those who wants to know about the different

scientist who invented and discovered technologies.

These research also encouraged all students to discovered new

technologies which can makes our works easier and faster to do..
