For over 25 years, RTI has provided technical assistance to numerous clients and communities

throughout Indonesia. Our demand-driven, community-focused strategy emphasizes


transparency, public participation, and capacity building for sustainability. RTIs programs
encourage local ownership and public-private commitment to local development and service
delivery. We engage national and local governments, civil society, and the public and private
sectors to improve the policy environment and increase citizen involvement in decision-making
processes.
Since 1996, RTIs country ofce in Jakarta has enabled us to ensure quality project management,
respond rapidly to client demands, build and maintain local partnerships, and identify public-
private partnerships (PPPs) for sustainable development. RTI Indonesia provides operational
support to our projects, such as fnancial management, human resources management,
procurement services, information technology support, and legal compliance. Our clients
in Indonesia include the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Australian
Governments Department of Foreign Afairs and Trade (DFAT), the World Bank, the Asian
Development Bank (ADB), and the Government of Indonesia.

Knowledge Sector Initiative, DFAT

KSI is an ambitious 15-year program to
strengthen public policy research and
research institutions in Indonesia. During
the frst fve-year phase, RTI is working
with DFAT to develop the capacity of
Indonesian research organizations in the
areas of health, education, and poverty
reduction. In collaboration with partner
organizations, we are working closely
with and providing research funding
to a number of Indonesian research
organizations, including universities,
independent think tanks, and civil
society groups. Tese eforts are designed
to improve and standardize technical
research methods, strengthen organization
leadership and management, and extend
advocacy and networking capabilities.
Prioritizing Reform, Innovation,
Opportunities for Reaching Indonesias
Teachers, Administrators, and Students
Project (PRIORITAS), USAID (20122017)
With more than 100 school districts in
10 provinces, RTI is working to extend
the capacity of local and provincial
governments to plan, manage, and fnance
education services and encourage parental
and community involvement, particularly
in supporting children in early grades and
ensuring a smooth transition from primary
to junior secondary schools. PRIORITAS
also helps prepare new teachers to enter the
classroom by providing support to teacher
training institutes.

Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases:
ENVISION, USAID (20112016)
RTI works with the Ministry of Health to
reduce the burden of lymphatic flariasis
and other neglected tropical diseases.
RTI supports preventive chemotherapy
by mass drug distribution in at least
28 districts and other activities, such as
capacity building, disease mapping, and
transmission assessment surveys.
Expanding Maternal and Neonatal
Survival (EMAS), USAID/Jhpiego
(20112016)
RTI leads cross-cutting themes to improve
governance of the health sector and
increase efectiveness and efciency of
information and communication activities
through use of technology, such as cell
phones and social media. Objectives
include improved quality of emergency
obstetric care and neonatal care services
and increased efciency and efectiveness
of referral systems between community
health systems and hospitals.
Kinerja Local Governance Service
Improvement Program in Indonesia,
USAID (20102015)
Te program uses accountability and
performance-based incentives to motivate
local Indonesian governments to improve
service delivery. RTI is testing and
replicating interventions that produce
measurable performance enhancements in
health, education, and the local business
environment. Te project works in 24
districts across 5 provinces and replicates
activities nationally.
Scaling Up for Most-At-Risk Populations:
Organizational Performance (SUM II),
USAID/ Training Resources Group (TRG)
(20102015)
RTI provides technical leadership,
management, and administrative
oversight. SUM II works in eight
provinces to scale up sustainable,
integrated HIV interventions for most-
at-risk populations, as well as people
living with HIV. SUM II also manages
small grants to civil society organizations
(CSOs) to build their capacity and
expand interventions.
More Efective Decentralized Education
Management and Governance (DBE1),
USAID (20052011)
RTI supported primary and junior
secondary schools and local governments
in 62 districts across 10 provinces to
strengthen education management,
fnance, community participation, and
private sector support at the district,
subdistrict, and school levels. RTI trained
more than 20,000 education stakeholders
on school management and planning and
leveraged over US$1.5 million private
sector funds.
Improved Quality of Teaching and
Learning Program (DBE2), USAID/
Education Development Center (20052011)
As a subcontractor, RTI improved
in-service teacher training on a new
competency-based national curriculum
and active learning methodologies. We
provided instructional leadership support
and assessed school performance at the
district, subdistrict, and school level
in East Java. RTI also worked with the
Examinations Center/Testing Unit to
develop assessment instruments and
diagnostic tools for classroom use.
Indonesia Community-Based Sanitation
Initiative, Ministry of Foreign Afairs, Taiwan
(2010)
RTI developed community and school-
based hygiene improvement campaigns
and infrastructure improvements in a
selected district of the city of Tangerang
in Banten Province, where many migrant
workers live in areas that receive poor
water and sanitation or solid waste
infrastructure and services.
Democratic Reform Support Program
(DRSP), USAID (20052010)
RTI worked with CSOs and the
public and private sectors to promote
government accountability and citizen
participation to safeguard policy reforms
related to the rule of law, as well as gains
in freedom of information and free
and fair elections. RTI assisted the new
Constitutional Court in strengthening
the checks and balances system, defning
broadcasting rights, and advocating for
independent news media.
Global Adult Tobacco Survey, U.S Centers
for Disease Control (CDC) Foundation
(20072009)
RTI partnered with the CDC, CDC
Foundation, and World Health
Organization to assist in the design and
implementation of a standard survey
protocol. Te survey collected national
data on tobacco use in 15 countries,
including China, and tracked progress in
implementing tobacco-free programs.
Support for Poor and Disadvantaged
Areas in Aceh (SPADA), World Bank
(20072009)
Tis project doubled the geographic
reach of RTIs Local Governance
Support Program work in post-tsunami
Aceh Province from 5 to 10 of the
most hard-hit districts. Te program
helped districts build transparent,
participatory local governments, draf
and implement reconstruction plans, and
improve service delivery and emergency
preparedness.
