Regine Magalona – “I’am a Leader”

“Every Child is a leader in our lap” It is said that today’s


children are tomorrow’s leaders.

Regine Magalona becomes program participant in Community


Partner Organization when she was four years old. At the
beginning of her enrollment she attended various activities
such as Growing Great Kids, wherein she started to learn to
mingle with others and she developed to have self confidence.

Regine and her family is leaving in a simple dwelling, they are


living in the house of her maternal grandparent. Her father is
working as a driver and his income is not regular but through
extra income the family can provide their daily needs, while her
mother a housewife and sometimes she accept extra job to
help her husband.

Magalona family is composed with (7) seven members. They


attend mass every Sunday. This time they are able to have
savings even all children are attending schools. According to
the family, the sponsorship program has a big impact in their
live. They help them to become self reliant through attending
some skills and leadership training for the parents, they
attended Responsible Parenting Session and Values Session.
For the child, she was rendered medical assistance, Educational
Assistance (School Supplies, Shoes and uniform,
Transportation allowance). The family is very thankful for all
the benefit they received from the Community Partner
Organization. In return of that, the parents volunteer their
time, The mother is conducting Alternative Learning Session to
the Out of school youth in their community and at the same
time she is currently elected as President of the Parent
association in their community, the father also give share his
time if needed.

Recine is thirteen years old and she is currently enrolled as a


second year high school. She is active in school, she become
member o the writers in the school papers. Regine know how
to socialize with other people. As an active girl, she attended
different kind of trainings such as leadership training and
Advocacy training. At first, she is only an active participants
and listeners she also observes all the things/activities they
are doing. It’s been unforgettable to her when she attended
Seminar/Training in different places through the project. She
was elected as a president of Children’s Association in the
community and also in the Community Partner Organization.
She is also currently representative in National Coalition of
Children’s Association in the Philippines (NCCAP). She was
trained peer facilitator teaching young children in their
community.

In her young age, she is now conducting Advocacy session in


their community, and active in the Children’s Association
activities. She is performing a big role in her life, she enjoy
being a young leader. According to her, real leaders lead by
example, encourage to do better, and bring others together to
work towards a common goal. As a leader, her goal is to
advocate the rights of the child to her fellow children in the
community. She serves as an inspiration to other children.
When you ask her to describe herself she will answer you this
way “I’m a friend, a daughter, a sister and most of all I’ am a
LEADER!
