BALI THE RIGHT WAY

G'day again folks and welcome to the weekly. Yet another week has flown by with all but the last of the Easter tourists heading home to do battle with the credit cards after a great holiday in Bali. It's great to see people come to the island and catch up, but its damn great when they get back on that plane and head home. I think the most of you will agree that as an expat, you get sick and tired of people telling you that you are lucky to live in Bali and that they wish they could live here. aliasj@kutaweekly.com The fact is they can, it's just they really, deep down, don't want to. Living here is really a great thing once you adopt a few basic cultural rules and sort your expectations. The island isn't running because we as westerners want to live here, it is and has been developed as one of the best holiday destinations in the world and caters for short term staying holiday makers, so if you are an expat you are expected to tow the line and pay. And pay you will as living in Bali isn't as cheap as one would think and over the years it has slowly crept up in cost. I mean where else in the world can you go to a decent little speak easy and enjoy and ice cold beer for a little over a dollar?? And where else in the world could you rent a small apartment for around a grand a year (including electricity) I mean come on its really getting expensive. I remember a time when a hundred Australian dollars got you 150,000 Rupiah, and we are now getting 1,060,000 Rupiah for that same tonne. (slang for one hundred dollars) For many that claim to live here they tend to save up enough over a few months back home doing whatever it is they do, then come here and with a few bucks behind them proceed to want to change the world and act as if they have billions in the bank, some are honest and actually may have many business interests back home which earn them one hell of a lot of coin to give them the ability to live comfortably in Bali, however I think the most of the expat crowd here have a little struggling happening. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think you all will agree that after you hear a few people complain about the extra few Rupes that a beer has cost them here or the extra charge for that bread from that shop you start to wonder why they are here in the first place. I'm sick and tired of hearing about how you spent the entire day chasing down the cheapest bloody chicken you could find and waited at the store till the half price sign was put up so you could save yourself 18 cents. I'm sorry but 18 cents just doesn't mean that much to me and my time is better spent enjoying my life. Next time you get the urge to save that much, as it clearly makes a difference to your weekly budget, give the newspaper a call and we will donate the 18 cents to you. My advice is IF YOU CANT AFFORD TO LIVE HERE, GET BACK ON THE PLANE AND PISS OFF BACK TO WHERE EVER IT IS YOU CAME FROM. These whinging pricks do nothing but bring everyone down and spoil the fantastic things that the rest of us enjoy living here. Wow I'm glad I got that off my chest. I do believe the Aussie government are apparently making it harder to get your pension if you choose to live here and many older expats are feeling the pinch with regard to that, again, if you can't afford it, stay at home, leaving us that can afford to stay here a peaceful existence. Bali is a great place to hang the hat for anyone that cares to try and make it a home, the problem is the complaining expats that infest the place and kinda spoil it for the rest of us. Go away and let the Balinese do what they do best, make for a brilliant family holiday destination which keeps getting better and better and better in this writer's opinion. Ok folks that about my say again for the week and I hope I've offended as many people as I could and just in case I didn't, Ill mention that the Pies got up and took a nice win on Friday night just gone against Carltank (that ought to take care of anyone feeling left out) It was great to see them ride home with about the easiest win I've seen this season and in closing hope that the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and do your absolute best to remember, Laughter is the best medicine. But if you're laughing without any reason, you need medicine. Enjoy your week, ALIASJ...........

Governor Pastika Wants Bali Tourism Workers to Earn a Minimum Rp. 10 million per month
Bali's Governor told those attending his monthly open-house town meeting he wants to see every worker in the tourism sector to earn a minimum Rp. 10 million ( US$870) per month. Adding: In principle, I want to see workers in Bali prosper. Don't let them suffer privations, even though (the privations) are permitted within the law. The current provincial minimum monthly wage for Bali is Rp. 1,5420,000 (US$134), with many companies still paying below that level. The Governor's comments were made on Saturday, May 3, 2014. if every household head in Bali earned Rp. 10 million each month, including those in the tourism sector. The governor said that a Balinese household with an income less than Rp. 10 million does not have sufficient money to fill the basic and educational needs of a family with children. Continuing, Pastika said: But the problem remains, are the companies capable of paying such high wages? Will they be bankrupted if they pay such salaries and then end up creating more unemployment. The governor underlined that the provincial administration is prepared to set wage levels in the tourism sector, but has concerns that a more prosperous level of remuneration would threaten hotel profitability in remote areas, such as Buleleng and Karangasem. groups from surrounding communities. Claiming his idea was workable, Sukawati cited his home turf of Ubud where, he said, ? ? Today, almost all hotels in Ubud no longer hold regular shows. Tourists now visit village halls where the shows are performed. If we have everything performed in hotels, tourists will stay in the building and not go anywhere The PHRI chief acknowledged such a program would be voluntary with no basis of enforcement existing local laws and regulations. He went on to explain: So this is for the hotels to decide based on their goodwill to create sustainable tourism in Bali.? ? It is unclear if the PHRI-Bali chairman also wishes to see Bali cultural presentations included at major hotels and conventions centers as part of conference and incentive programs discontinued.

PHRI-Bali wants Hotels to End On-Site Cultural and Dance Performances
The Bali Daily (The Jakarta Post) reports that the local chapter of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) wants to see hotels and accommodation providers to stop organizing cultural and dance performances on their premises, believing such program should be organized in local villages as a means of creating tourism activities of direct benefit to the local communities. Those proposing the new approach to cultural tourism argue that cultural shows and extravaganzas organized at Bali hotels represent unfair competition and deprive local artists of the opportunity to develop performances in their own locales. PHRI-Bali chairman Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati insists that keeping performances linked to village settings will compel tourists to travel further afield in Bali, beyond the much-visited areas of the Island's south. Said Ardhana: Let them [villages] hold these performances to attract more tourists. We shouldn't bring all the products to hotels, rather we should promote tourist distribution instead. Continuing, he said: Give

them space to develop their own potential. The province should support them by all means, and the tourist industry must share income with these people. The PHRI chief for Bali who once served as the regent of Gianyar said hotels could hold cultural performances on special holidays, such as Christmas and New Years, and, then on those occasions only hire performance

NASA has released pictures of a planned spacesuit that astronauts could one day wear on the first manned mission to Mars.
According to reports, the public voted on three different designs for the Z-2 and the "Technology" design received 63 per cent of the vote. The design uses luminescent wire to form a light on the front of the suit that can be personalised to help astronauts identify other individuals on their team. The Z-2 is a prototype so will not be making any future trip to Mars itself as it does not have the ability to fend off the extreme temperatures and radiation of a

"Each iteration of the Zseries will advance new technologies that one day will be used in a suit worn by the first humans to step foot on the Red Planet," NASA said. "Besides the typical fit checks and mobility evaluations, NASA is currently planning a very comprehensive test campaign for the Z-2 suit." These will include tests in a vacuum chamber to mimic the lack of atmosphere in space, a pool test that trains astronauts to walk and tests on a ground that imitates the rocky terrain of Mars.

Peter Schwab says finding and keeping talented youngsters vital for Brisbane Lions
FINDING the AFL's next big thing and keeping him is Peter Schwab's mission in his new job at the Lions.
Schwab swung from his position as Brisbane's head of coaching and development into the freshly created role of talent acquisition and retention manager last week in response to the club's poor record of holding on to players from interstate. The Lions have lost five top10 draft picks in the past five years. While retention is a big focus, Schwab said identifying recruits who will make a seamless move to Brisbane was paramount. Firstly find them, Schwab said when asked what his new job description entailed. Once we've got them in the Brisbane environment it's all about making them comfortable and happy and playing good footy up here. I think every club realises how important it is that once you get quality players into your and the coaching staff - to believe they can win every week and to convince the players that if we do certain things that will happen. The Lions, who suffered a 79-point defeat at the hands of Sydney on Saturday night, are languishing at the foot of the AFL ladder with just one win from their seven matches this season. Schwab cited Port Adelaide as the benchmark for flipping results around after the Power dragged themselves from the cellar in 2011 and 2012 to be sitting in second place and considered genuine finals contenders this year. You never know how far away it is, Schwab said. Port Adelaide are a classic example of two years ago everyone was saying here was a club in turmoil and in trouble and very, very quickly it turns around. We've got some great young talent here it might be 12 months, it might be 24 months, but it will happen.

football club you want to keep them here, so you just put things in place that are going to ensure that happens. That's something we're very much aware of. Probably we're a bit unique with a lot of the players not coming from this state. Speaking for the first time since his appointment, Schwab admitted the best-case scenario for the Lions' 2014 season was to continue to blood youngsters so that when senior players return from injury they have a more experienced outfit around them. I can't give you a prediction on wins or losses, Schwab said. I'd like to think we'll start this weekend by beating Essendon. Every week I think we can

Potential free agent Bryce Gibbs says he'd like to stay with Carlton; confident deal will get done
POTENTIAL free agent Bryce Gibbs insists he wants to stay at Carlton next year, rejecting speculation he is considering a return home to Adelaide for the rest of his football career.
Gibbs said he was still page heading into the future. locked in talks with the Blues about I'm still under negotiations a long-term deal, saying he has been satisfied in recent chats with with the club ... as far as I know, it is the club that both are on the same all going really well and really positive, so hopefully it can get done soon, he said. He dismissed talk that he has put his contract talks on hold until the end of the season, which is so often the tell-tale sign that a player is on the move. Asked if he had indicated to Carlton that he wanted to stay, Gibbs said: Yeah, definitely. If it could be done tomorrow, it would be done tomorrow, he said. You can't rush these things. Brett Deledio to challenge striking ban as Jack Viney referred directly to AFL Tribunal
RICHMOND'S Brett Deledio will join Demon Jack Viney at the AFL tribunal tonight after opting to challenge his striking ban.
Deledio was also offered a week for striking Cat Mathew Stokes who has accepted a one-match ban for a separate incident during Sunday's clash at the MCG. After Taylor Hunt kicked a goal early in the second quarter, Deledio was pushed into Stokes and appeared to make contact with an elbow around the neck. The blow was assessed as deliberate high contact and low impact, drawing a two-match ban that is cut to one by Deledio's sixyear clean record. Viney is the big talking point of the weekend , having been referred directly to the tribunal by the AFL's match review panel. He was cited for a bump on Adelaide forward Tom Lynch that left the Crow with a badly broken jaw. Lynch and Melbourne defender Alexis Georgiou both came off after Lynch was crunched between the two Demons in the first quarter. It is the second time in recent weeks a player has been sent straight to the tribunal for a bump. Adelaide's Richard Douglas copped two weeks for his hit on Callan Ward in Round 5. Stokes was offered one week for his left hook on Richmond defender Steven Morris. The Geelong midfielder will now miss his team's Round 8 clash with Fremantle. Meanwhile, Brisbane Lions forward Luke McGuane escaped suspension with an early plea for striking Sydney Swans defender Jeremy Laidler. Docker David Mundy also accepted a reprimand for rough conduct on Scott Selwood in Sunday's western Derby. North Melbourne goalsneak Lindsay Thomas was cleared of striking Gold Coast's Danny Stanley after being reported during the game. The MRP deemed the force used was below that required for a report. In other weekend cases, Richmond's Matt McDonough was cleared of rough contact on Steve Johnson. The panel ruled that both players were attempting to take possession of the ball and the actions of McDonough were not a bumping action.

Collingwood's Tom Langdon is relishing AFL life since being overlooked in 2012 draft
THE heartbreak of missing out in the 2012 AFL draft has spurred Tom Langdon to make his time at Collingwood count.
A year after missing out completely, Langdon waited until pick 65 in last year's draft to hear his name read out by the Magpies. Since then, he's wasted no time forging a role in defence at the biggest club of all. Langdon has played in each of the Magpies' matches this year, much to his surprise. Being a first-year player, I wasn't expecting it, he said. I guess I was just improving each week in training, building in confidence every week. Langdon was named as the AFL's rising star nominee for his damaging role in Collingwood's win over Carlton on Friday night. It's reward for effort in a way and I'm pretty happy to get it, he said. His eight marks, 23 disposals with 87 per cent efficiency helped stymie the Blues for three quarters when the game was won. His rise has delighted coach Nathan Buckley, who said being passed over at the 2012 draft gave him resilience and drive. We have found a player who still has a lot to learn and will still have his ups and downs but is showing us he is capable of playing at the highest level, Buckley said. Langdon's breakout debut season has perhaps impressed the hundreds of thousands of AFL fantasy players even more. His outstanding form has made him one of the AFL's most valued players for his cheap price and high scores. And his mates let Langdon know when he hasn't performed. They'll always giving me stick for not performing ... they're always the first to tell me how I'm going.

But I also League round. The NRL has had its PR issues over the years, but has there ever been a more poorly timed series of public indiscretions from players than we've seen in the last three days? First two NSW under 20s players spoil what was a great spectacle by writing themselves into the headlines with vulgar language and a homophobic slur. T h e n Warriors star Konrad Hurrell stars in a sex tape that goes viral, forcing the NRL's integrity unit to step in and investigate on the same day that the Morris twins are sharing the stage with their Mum to open a fantastic initiative by the NRL. Instead of spruiking one of the most positive things the NRL does on an annual basis, head of football Todd Greenberg is forced to grab hold of the fire hose and do his best to extinguish the flames that inevitably erupt when players behave badly. Speaking to Fox Sports News on Tuesday morning, one of rugby league's true gentlemen, Steve Mortimer, was visibly frustrated at having to rake over the coals of his beloved code's cultural issues which never seem to be far from the surface. It is a bad look for the game, Mortimer said. Maybe the other codes are just purely innocent the whole time How many times have you heard that in the past and how many times will you hear it in the future? ... It's a great game it tries to kill itself but it can't, it's too good a game. Now that we've got the Commission in place, it's going to

take a while to improve our culture. We're getting there but I can't stick up for those three who have been involved in the headlines, in particular Konrad Hurrell stupidly putting something on social media. On Monday afternoon, Greenberg was forced to front the media in front of NRL House to explain again to the players that they need to understand poor behaviour has consequences. The young player (future Tigers star Mitchell Moses, who was responsible for a homophobic slur against a Queensland player in Saturday night's Origin Under 20s clash) came in today to see Dave Smith and myself and I admire him for getting on the front foot and apologising in person,

understand that there has to be consequences for poor decision making. Players need to be held accountable for their actions, and that's fundamental. He understood that what he did was wrong. We've got to continue to hold our players to a high level. That's part of their commitment to the game, even at under 20s level. To back this up the NRL suspended Moses for two matches and will put the talented young half through an antivilification education and awareness program The NRL also charged Matt Lodge, the NSW under 20s player responsible for scrawling an obscenity on his wrist tape, with grade three detrimental conduct a charge that carries a three week ban, which can be reduced to two weeks with an early guilty plea. All this while the mother of the Morris twins, Karen Chatfield, had a room filled with media and dignitaries in the palm of her hand as she explained she would cheer for son Josh's Bulldogs when they have the ball, and son Brett's Dragons when they attack in Sunday's NRL clash. It's a fun, light, uplifting story but three young players have done their best to ensure that it barely sees the light of day.

Sonny Bill Williams on falling back in love with league, his private life and Benji Marshall.
THE NRL is losing much more than just a footy player at the end of the season. They've lost a universal brand.
On Monday Sonny Bill Williams became the first player in rugby league history to be signed by adidas on a global ambassador deal, joining the likes of international superstars David Beckham, Lionel Messi, Andy Murray and NBA star Derrick Rose, who are all on multi-million dollar deals with the sportswear giants. While the above are all genuine one-sport superstars, it was SBW's incredible all-round talent with two NRL premierships, gold medallists Ian Thorpe and Sally Pearson have had international sponsorship with adidas. Q: How does it feel to be recognised internationally, not just in the NRL? A: It's awesome actually and it's a privilege to be signed up with the other guys who are with adidas. The fact it's a global contract is massive for me. They've got some really big names in world sport. The most humbling part is that it's just not an endorsement deal where you just pick up free gear. It's special.

I've stated my case to NSW coach Laurie Daley, says Blues hopeful Jarrod Mullen
JARROD Mullen says Laurie Daley knows just how badly he wants to play for NSW again.
And he is hoping the self-assured way he got the job done for Country Origin on Sunday in Dubbo has convinced the Blues coach he is ready to be handed a second chance at Origin level. Nursing a swollen eye and the usual bumps and bruises on Monday, Mullen was happy to avoid the hype that now surrounds the selection of the Blues five-eighth. While Sydney Roosters incumbent James Maloney remains a slight favourite to again get the nod with his goalkicking considered a crucial factor, the likes of Mullen, Bulldogs No 6 Josh Reynolds and Souths star John Sutton have entered the frame with Maloney out injured. Mullen and Reynolds squared off on Sunday with most judges believing the Knights five-eighth came out a slight points winner on the day. It was an Origin sort of game in some ways with the desperation we showed to defend our line there early in the second half, Mullen said. We were down on troops at the end so the game didn't finish the way we wanted it too which was really disappointing but I was happy enough with the way I went. That hasn't always been the case after a big game. Only two seasons ago, the Newcastle general openly admits he botched an opportunity and was down on himself when he played poorly for Country in Mudgee. But as he tells it: I am a completely different player now. Different because while the desire is as strong as ever to add to the one game he played for the Blues as a teenager back in 2007, this time of the year doesn't consume him like it has in the past. It's the most relaxed I've felt going into a rep game, Mullen said. I used to let the whole thing get to me and I'd work myself up. That's what happened a couple of years ago. But I guess I'm older now and a lot more experienced. Laurie knows I want to play but it's up to him who he goes

A 116-year-old Peruvian living in extreme poverty in the heart of the Andes is staking a claim to be recognised as the oldest person in the world.
Thought to have been born on December 20, 1897, Filomena Taipe Mendoza's age would make her three months older than Japanese Misao Okawa, who was believed to be the world's oldest person, according to Guinness World Records and the US-based Gerontology Research Group. Peru's Ministry of

Artist guilty of exhibitionism

A South African performance artist who tied a live rooster to his penis d u r i n g a n impromptu openair show near the Eiffel Tower was found guilty of " s e x u a l exhibitionism", but the Paris court did not impose a s e n t e n c e , prosecutors said.
Last September Steven Cohen danced on the tourist-filled Trocadero Plaza dressed in a corset, high heels, long red gloves and an elaborate feathered headdress with a rooster attached to his penis by a ribbon. Against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, and under the amused and perplexed gaze of tourists, including a group of nuns, the spectacle lasted only a few moments before police arrested Cohen, dragging him across the plaza, rooster attached. "This is a rather measured decision," said lawyer Agns Tricoire. "In my opinion, this case should never have gone to court." In a March interview with Le F i g a r o d a i l y, C o h e n s a i d authorities had "no understanding of what art is, what performance is". "If I'm found guilty ... I will see it as a failure of French justice," said Cohen, who has lived in France for about 10 years. Prosecutors had asked for a 1,000-euro ($1,400) fine. Cohen is known for "interventions in the public realm", according to his biography. Wearing an illuminated chandelier tutu, he once walked through a squatters' camp in Johannesburg while it was being demolished. The Paris piece was a reaction to an i n c r e a s i n g l y h o m o p h o b i c , xenophobic and anti-Semitic world, Cohen said. "In showing the most intimate part of me, I'm saying: I'm male, I'm Jewish, I'm queer, I'm white," he said. He said the rooster, named Franck, was not harmed during the performance. The animal was chosen "because it's the emblem of France".

A two-month-old bear cub that bit and scratched at least 18 students at a Missouri college poses no rabies threat and won't be killed, school officials said.
The college earlier said that the cub, named Boo Boo, would have to be euthanized in order to test it for the disease. The cub was brought to the campus of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, on Sunday along with some other animals from a petting zoo to help students relax before final exams, the university said in a statement. Health officials previously

federal health officials determined that Boo Boo posed no rabies threat and that students will need no treatments. "We are thrilled that this very unfortunate situation has come to the best possible conclusion for everyone involved - our students, our community and the bear cub," said the release issued by university spokeswoman Susan Killenberg McGinn. Animals from the local petting zoo have been brought to the private university in St. Louis for several years during exam time, but Boo Boo was included this year without the school's knowledge, administrators said earlier.

Life is always noticeably and considerably easier when we aren't experiencing inertia. We know how anything flight or sailing related is made easier by having the wind behind us. We tend to be very aware of forces working in our favor and this week marks the start of a process that intends to do precisely that for you. You've grown very used to struggling in a certain area of your world and have had to display considerable patience and tolerance. Very soon, you can expect the need to do both to ease and can expect certain delays and frustrations to end as a result.

Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23 The greatest barriers to our success are often those we create ourselves. We convince ourselves that there are limits to what we can achieve and ought to be setting as realistic goals. In recent weeks, you've had to adjust certain expectations and apply considerable patience to at least one cherished plan. Something has appeared to be considerably more difficult to attain or achieve than you believed it would be. This week brings reassurance that what you set your sights on some time ago is not as unrealistic as it might have appeared recently. Fresh hope and inspiration are coming, very soon. Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22 It's one thing to 'rise' to a challenge. It's another to decide to make concerted effort to overcome it. We tend to be able to identify challenges when they present themselves but, through assessing how 'big' they appear and what they're likely to require from us, we procrastinate. We create reasons why we're 'not ready' to deal with what needs dealing with. You're being given superb celestial help this week to see a particular issue in the light it needs to be seen in. Don't let previous fear or uncertainty cloud your judgment about what it is you need to do. Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21 What makes your heart beat that little bit faster? What instills belief that the world is a wonderful place full of opportunities waiting to be seized? Am I just waxing lyrical about a world that doesn't really exist? You know such a world is available to you. You can both see and sense already the changes that being introduced, one by one, to your world and these look set to continue. The cosmos has serious plans to make life a bit less of a serious thing for you. This week kicks off a process to do precisely that. Avoid any tendency to look for 'the catch' in any situation now. Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20 People say 'ignorance is bliss'. We're also told 'what we don't know, won't hurt us'. Being knowledgeable about truth in any situation has to be preferable to not knowing and it's not knowing truth or reality behind a certain tense scenario in your world that is the cause of discomfort or frustration. Piece by piece, a picture is being formed that is providing you with what you need to know. Soon, you'll be able to take action based on reassuring fact, not speculation. Prepare for the arrival of information that promises to delight and inspire you. Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19 History has many examples of revolutionary inventions and discoveries made by asking a simple question. Someone, somewhere, decided to look a bit closer at a situation and query what a result might be if something was done differently or adjusted to achieve a different result. It is the need to question something now that might be causing you to feel nervous but, by delving a bit deeper, you stand to gain insight where more questions than answers have been available so far. It's a case of asking for what you want and need now as there's a strong chance you'll be glad you did. Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 Your future, as we sit here and now, is largely connected with your past. Futures often are. It's what we have done or put in place previously that often plays a large part in where we're at and where we're going. This means you're not starting from scratch in an area you believe yourself to be. You do have momentum working in your favor. You also have a clean slate of sorts to start afresh where you've longed to do so. This week, acknowledge the past but don't dwell on it. Recent events, as tense or uncertain as they have been, are playing an integral part in progress you yearn to make.

Taurus Apr 21 - May 21 Are you being presented with a problem or an opportunity? That's a question you're likely to ask yourself this week. All too often, we fail to see opportunities within what we perceive to be problems or obstacles to our happiness. We reject the notion that a simple change in attitude on our part could actually result in us being grateful for the inconvenience or apparent setback we're experiencing. This week, it is an opportunity you're being presented with, not a problem. There is something wonderful and potentially heartwarming to be drawn from what's unfolding now. Embrace it. Gemini May 22 - Jun 22 People sometimes discuss whether or not sounds are made if there are no ears to hear them. Can the same not be said about what we see? How do we know that what we're seeing is exactly the same as what someone else sees? The answer to that is pretty clear-cut when we're reliant entirely upon what our eyes inform us of, but what about our instincts? There's something you believe you're seeing more clearly and understanding in a better way than someone else. This week brings a need for you to have to explain yourself in ways that might frustrate at first but promise to bring resolution eventually.. Cancer Jun 23 - Jul 23 How seriously do you feel you should be taking a certain matter? More to the point, how seriously do you feel others believe you should be taking it? Possibility exists that you could create imbalance between your perception surrounding the importance of something and how important others believe it to be. Look closely at your reasons for wanting to be seen to be addressing the matter and why you believe it to be necessary to go to the lengths you appear prepared to go to. You might be placing too much importance on whatever-it-is. Relax. It's all going to be fine. Leo Jun 24 - Aug 23 Do you believe certain people are of the opinion that you've 'missed the point' in some way? Are you of the opinion that they believe you're chasing a pipedream or chasing a non-existent pot of gold at the end of a certain rainbow? What others think about the goal that inspires you now is irrelevant. You appear to be acting on a hunch that is motivating you to bring a certain plan much closer to a desired and necessary outcome. It's important you continue to trust your instincts this week and have faith in the fact that what is inspiring you now is real and very tangible. Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23 History's greatest leaders didn't become great because of plans going entirely to plan. They knew they needed contingency plans in case things were awry and those they were leading had utter faith in the fact that, should it become necessary to alter a set in stone and agreed strategy, that doing so would involve just as much careful consideration as the original plan received. Sometimes, we all have to adjust our goals and expectations. That doesn't justify giving up. If it is becoming clear that a certain cherished plan of yours needs adjusting, then see it as a very necessary and positive step forward..

CARLY RAE JEPSEN

(born November 21, 1985) is a Canadian singersongwriter from Mission, British Columbia. In 2007, she placed third in Canadian Idol season five's competition and was a part of the Canadian Idol Top 3 concert tour. Shortly after competing on Canadian Idol, she independently released her debut album, Tug of War, through Maple Music Recordings on September 30, 2008. Three years later, she released a new single, titled "Call Me Maybe", on Canadian label 604 Records, which was followed by the release of an EP titled Curiosity on February 14, 2012. In February 2012, pop singer Justin Bieber referred her to his manager, Scooter Braun, who subsequently signed Jepsen to his Schoolboy Records label while obtaining an American deal with global distribution on affiliate Interscope Records, after "Call Me Maybe" gained popularity on YouTube by reaching 400 million views. The single reached the number one spot on both the US Billboard and Canadian Hot 100, while also topping the charts in 19 other countries. Jepsen's musical influences include James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison. Jepsen has received multiple awards and nominations, including three Juno Awards and two Grammy Award nominations. She was also named by Billboard as 2012's Rising Star and introduced in Canada's Walk of Fame's Slaight Allan Awards. Jepsen was born in Mission, British Columbia, the daughter of Alexandra and Larry Jepsen; her stepfather is Ron Lanzarotta. She attended Heritage Park Secondary School in Mission, and has since performed there post-graduation. She has Danish roots. She later attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, British Columbia before auditioning for Canadian Idol. After completing the Canadian Idol tour, Jepsen went back to British Columbia to focus on writing, recording and completing her band. Her demos attracted attention and she was eventually signed a joint management deal with Simkin Artist Management and Dexter Entertainment, which led Jepsen into the studio with producer Ryan Stewart. Founder Jonathan Simkin of Simkin Artist Management, who is also co-founder of the Vancouver-based record label 604 Records, was initially reluctant to also sign her to the 604 label right away, instead opting to jointly take on her management as a first step. Jepsen struck an independent signing with MapleMusic Recordings and distribution via Fontana North. On June 16, 2008, Jepsen released her debut single and another single, a cover of John Denver's song "Sunshine on My Shoulders".] On July 21, 2008, Jepsen added two new songs from the album to her MySpace page: "Bucket" and "Heavy Lifting". In August 2008, Jepsen's MySpace page announced that the album's title would be Tug of War, and it was interdependently released on September 30, 2008 through MapleCore/Fontana North. The page also mentioned two more songs that were included on the album: "Tug of War" and "Sweet Talker". The former was released as a single on iTunes on September 16, 2008, and has been receiving radio airplay on various stations across Canada. She performed the latter as her Canadian Idol audition. A music video for "Tug of War" was released in January 2009. "Bucket", her second single, was released in May 2009. A video for "Sour Candy", a duet with Josh R a m s a y o f Marianas Trench, who would also go on to produce "Call Me Maybe", was also released. All of Jepsen's music videos have been directed by Ben Knechtel. In spring 2009, she toured western Canada with Marianas Trench and Shiloh. She then went on a cross-Canada tour with Marianas Trench, The New Cities and Mission District.

Call Me Maybe
Lyrics I threw a wish in the well Don't ask me, I'll NEVER tell I looked to you as it fell And now you're in my way I'd trade my soul for a wish Pennies and dimes for a kiss I wasn't looking for this But now you're in my way Your stare was holding Ripped jeans, skin was showing Hot night, wind was blowing Where you think you're going, baby? Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy But here's my number, so call me maybe It's hard to look right at you baby So here's my number, so call me maybe Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy But here's my number, so call me maybe All the other boys try to chase me So here's my number, so call me maybe You took your time with the call I took no time with the fall You gave me nothing at all But still you're in my way! I beg, borrow, and steal At first sight and it's real I didn't know I would feel it But it's in my way Your stare was holding, ripped jeans Skin was showing Hot night, wind was blowing Where you think you're going baby? Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad I wish you know that I missed you so so bad

Bali's 10 best dive sites

Want to plunge into the deep blue and get your mind blown by Bali's underwater wildlife? Head right this way. Bali's dive sites offer great diversity: vertical walls and sand slopes, shipwrecks, limestone shorelines and black, volcanic outcrops, peaceful bays and ripping currents, coral-covered ridges, with both shore- and boat-diving. Expect to see mantas, whale sharks and, from July through October, oceanic sunfish. Diving safaris are becoming the package of choice for those who want to see more of underwater Bali. These are basically hotel/diving and transport packages. Because you're staying near the dive sites, you can do earlier and later dives and avoid the day-tripping crowds from the tourist areas that pack out popular sites. It also allows you to do more dives each day. Snorkelling is available at Tulamben, Amed, Padang Bai and Pemuteran/Menjangan, so non-diving partners and children can often join day trips and safaris. Here are Bali's 10 best: 1. USAT Liberty The Liberty shipwreck is considered Bali's most popular dive site. The American ship USAT Liberty was an armed cargo steamship that was torpedoed by the Japanese in 1942. The years under the sea have transformed it to one of Indonesia's most beautiful artificial reefs. Stunning gorgonian sea fans, huge soft coral trees and big-barrel sponges all flourish here. A resident school of big-eyed jacks live on and around the ship and are unafraid of divers, so it's safe to enter the school and have them whirl around you. The ship is also a haven for emperors, batfish, sweetlips and parrotfish. 2. Tulamben drop-off On the northeast coast, Tulamben Bay receives very plankton-rich waters and, coupled with the fact that the three main dive sites provide totally different physical environments, the bay is a stunning and diverse underwater ecosystem. The black sand in the area brings out the colours of the corals, gorgonians, fish and other marine life. At the south end of the bay, a rocky point falls off sharply underwater to create a deep drop-off where sharks, whale sharks and sunfish have been found. 3. Amed Amed lies to the south, along the eastern coastline. It was traditionally dependent on salt-panning and fishing, and despite the arrival of tourists it's retained that feeling. There are three main dive sites here; head south to the shipwreck at Lipah fishing village, or a bit further south to the drift dive at Gili Selang, Bali's easternmost point. 4. Lipah shipwreck This village is tiny and so is the wreck, which can be found at the inner bay drop-off at the north end of Lipah Bay. Divers can take a boat down the coast, or just drive along the winding coast and walk in. It's full of copper sweepers, a batfish school, hard coral growth and waving sea fans, and can be both dived or snorkelled. Go with a good guide, as the currents can come up fast and strong. 5. Gili Tepekong This big volcanic hump rises out of the water not far from the Candi Dasa shore on the south-east coast. Underwater, the area is covered with Medusa-like heads that vary in size from huge boulders to small sea gardens. They are adorned with blood-red sea fans, tunicates and sponges. In some spots, the competition for space amid the corals is incredible. Other sites include Gili Mimpang and Gili Biaha. Currents are common in this area, but that means pelagic life like big tuna, jacks, sharks and even mola mola come in here. 6. Blue Lagoon The shallow reefs of Blue Lagoon, near Padang Bai, are used for introductory dives, night dives and long photo excursions. Staghorn coral patch reefs start in only 3m of water. The reef then opens out onto an area with huge coral bommies, soft leather corals and flowing anemones. The area here can be good for macro buffs; there are rumours of a lacey scorpionfish being seen here as well. 7. Napoleon Reef Named for a large Napoleon wrasse seen here, Napoleon Reef is in the north near Pemuteran. It can be dived deep or shallow, day or night. On the northeast end is the Ikan Warung fish house, bustling with various schools. Golden sea fans and large clumps of cotton-candy coral grow beside other gorgonians along the slope. 8. Menjangen Island The drop-offs at Menjangan Island can be a real treat. This is the site of a now abandoned guard post that has a broad channel leading to the beach. Expect to be greeted by batfish. The dive offers spectacular corals and many deep crevices and fissures, as well as small caves. Sleeping groupers and wary big-eyed jacks are found in the dark recesses. 9. Crystal Bay Crystal Bay, on Nusa Penida, is protected and relatively shallow, offering enjoyable conditions for divers of all levels. The bay has two entrances and a large rock sits in the centre. Be careful when diving this central rock, or along the outside edge of the bay, as the current can be strong, sweeping divers out along the outside wall into very tricky diving conditions. When near the drop-off, look for larger creatures, such as molas, eagle rays, dogtooth tuna, sharks and an occasional bumphead wrasse. Schooling surgeonfish are abundant in some spots. 10. Manta Point Lucky divers may have a close encounter with the manta rays that are known to traverse this dive site. One of the mantas is pure white, a truly unearthly creature. Manta Point is located along the high and rugged cliffs of Nusa Penida, so it's not always easy to get there due to the big swells that sometimes hit, but it's worth it to experience these gentle, graceful creatures.

This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.

Shopper finds note from prison worker

A shopper in New York has found a letter in her bag that appears to be from a worker being held in a Chinese prison factory more than 7,000 miles away. According to reports, Stephanie Wilson was reaching for a receipt inside a paper shopping bag from Saks Fifth Avenue when she found a letter pleading, "HELP HELP HELP".
The message, written in blue ink on white lined paper, appeared to be a desperate cry from a man who said he made the bag. "We are ill-treated and work like slaves for 13 hours every day producing these bags in bulk in the prison factory," continued the letter, which was tucked into the bottom of the bag. It ended, "Thanks and sorry to bother you". "I read the letter and I just shook," said Wilson, 28, an Australian who lives in West Harlem. "I could not believe what I was reading". The note, which Wilson found after buying a pair of boots in September 2012, was signed Tohnain Emmanuel Njong and was accompanied by a small passportphoto sized color picture of a man in an orange jacket. The letter, which also included a Yahoo email address on the back, triggered a hunt for the whereabouts of the mystery man. Wilson showed the letter to the Laogai Research Foundation, an advocacy group founded to fight human rights abuses in Chinese prisons. The nonprofit foundation began investigating using its contacts on the ground as well as online, a representative confirmed to DNAinfo New York. In recent weeks, using the now-inactive email address and social media accounts, DNAinfo located a man who said he wrote the letter that Wilson found. In a two-hour phone interview, a man who identified himself as Njong said he wrote the letter during his three-year prison sentence in the eastern city of Qingdao, Shandong Province. Unprompted, Njong described obscure details in the letter, such as its mention of Samuel Eto'o, a professional soccer player on English premiere league team Chelsea, who, like Njong, is from Cameroon in West Africa. He added that he wrote a total of five letters while he was behind bars some in French that he hid in bags labelled with French words, and others in English, he said. Njong, who is now 34, said he had been teaching English in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen when he was arrested in May 2011 and charged with fraud, a crime he said he never committed. He said he was held in a detention centre for 10 months while awaiting a government-sponsored lawyer, who represented him at his court trial and sentencing. He said he was barred from contact with the outside community. Njong's arrest and imprisonment were confirmed by his legal aid lawyer in China, whose name DNAinfo is withholding for the lawyer's protection. Harry Wu, the founder of Laogai Research Foundation, spent 19 years in a Chinese prison factory, known as laogai. He said he took steps to verify the letter and believes that Njong took a huge risk in writing and sending it. "There would be solitary confinement until you confess and maybe later they increase your sentence - or even death," Wu said. His organisation referred the letter to the Department of Homeland Security, which investigates allegations of American companies using forced labor to make their products. According to DHS senior policy adviser Kenneth Kennedy, the department was made aware of a woman in Oregon who made international news in 2012 when she discovered a similar letter detailing abuse and grueling labor in a Chinese prison when it fell from a Halloween decoration she had bought from Kmart. The Oregon letter was anonymous, though The New York Times later tracked down the man who said he wrote it. A representative for Saks Fifth Avenue said the store was notified of the letter by the Laogai Research Foundation in December 2013 and said the company took the allegation seriously and launched an investigation, according to Tiffany Bourre, spokeswoman for Hudson's Bay Company, which took a controlling stake in the famous department store last December. Bourre said Saks does have its paper shopping bags made in China, but the company was unable to determine the specific origin of the bag that contained Njong's letter and photo. Hudson's Bay Company is currently in the process of ensuring all vendors meet the new company's standards on workers' rights, Bourre added.

The ICP round gathered over 7 million prices from 199 economies in eight regions, with assistance from 15 regional and international partners. In the top nine are the United States, China, India, Japan, Germany, Russia, Brazil, France and Britain. The middle-income economies of Indonesia, China, India, Russia, Brazil and Mexico now account for 32.3 percent of world gross domestic product. That compares with the 32.9 percent contributed by the six largest high-income economies, United States, Japan, Germany, France, United Kingdom, and Italy. The report also showed that the United States was about to lose its status as the world's biggest economy, as China is likely to surpass it by the end of this year, faster than widely anticipated. The United States has been the biggest economy in the world since overtaking the United Kingdom in 1872. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has predicted that China will overtake the United States by 2016 while China itself is hoping to become number one by 2019. According to the report China's GDP was nearly 87 percent of the US GDP in 2011, while India had moved up from being in 10th position in 2005 to the third-largest economy, overtaking Japan. However, some say the PPP is just one measure to judge the performance of the world's economies and that developing nations like India and China still have a lot of catching up to do. international trade, the United States, Europe and Japan continue to be the dominant economies in the world, Frederic Neumann, co-head of Asia economic research at HSBC in Hong Kong said as reported by International Business Time, which quoted CNBC. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was quick to respond. This morning I received a report that Indonesia has become the world's 10th largest economy. Thank God, it is all of our efforts and hard work, he said through his twitter account. He said the nation continues working to reach higher levels of prosperity. This is of course a good start. But we still have a long way to go as we are facing many challenges. However, God willing, we can overcome those challenges, he told a gathering in Jakarta later in the day. Finance Minister Chatib Basri said the achievement was an endorsement of the government's economic policy. That means Indonesia's economy is on the right track and we have made significant progress because a couple years ago we were in 16th position, Chatib said, as quoted by Detik on Sunday. But many other reports pointed out that while the rise of Indonesia should be praised, it has an uneven growth rate, with a widening gap between rich and poor. Citing a forthcoming report

by the World Bank, the Economist warned that real consumption grew by about 4 percent a year on average from 2003 to 2010. But for the poorest 40 percent of households it grew by only 1.3 percent. In contrast, consumption by the richest 20 percent grew by 5.9 percent. Based on this data, the magazine concluded that the rich are getting richer much more rapidly than the poor. The growing inequality between low-income groups and high-income groups has also been indicated by the country's worsening Gini coefficient which represents income disbursement from 0.29 in 2000 to 0.38 in 2011, a drop of almost a third in equality. The Economist also points to the fact that the informal sector accounts for 70 percent of the country's GDP, meaning that the vast majority of Indonesia's working population has no guarantee of minimum wage and protection from the government. People are forced to go informal because manufacturing in Indonesia is hamstrung by decrepit infrastructure, rigid labor laws and protectionist policies that make it difficult for its factories to be competitive, according to the magazine. Indonesia has increased its social spending, the magazine reported, adding that the government has bold plans to introduce universal health care by 2 0 1 9 . H o w e v e r, government spending is still skewed towards the rich, with about 20 percent of the central government's budget, or 282 trillion rupiah ($24.5 billion) this year, going on energy subsidies. Cheap gasoline benefits the rich, who are its biggest consumers.
