Buddy went from being music youth director in his home church to holding several ositions in my ministry. !hen "od romoted him to astoring, evangeli#ing, and leadershi roles in the Body of $hrist. But it didn%t come easily. !hrough the years I have watched Buddy%s struggles and have rayed for him. He forged ahead through the difficult years relentlessly, working, weeing, and seeking "od. Under the direction and ower of the Holy &irit, Buddy%s mind was renewed by the 'ord of "od and his life was transformed. !he rinciles Buddy learned in his years of rearation for the ministry form a strong foundation for this book. Buddy oints out, "It re(uires an understanding of the rinciles of authority in order to understand the elements of faith. If we misaly authority, we will miss the elements of faith." I esecially en)oyed Buddy%s fresh insights into my * Understanding Authority for Effective Leadership favorite ortion of &criture on faith+,ark --./0,/1. Buddy shows how "od wants men and women to be free, even though mankind often seems to refer slavery. He discusses rinciles of authority that aly between husbands and wives, and ministers and their flocks. He oints out that it is the resonsibility of laymen "to analy#e the (uality of leadershi that is before it and decide whether to accet or re)ect that leadershi." 2nd he counsels leaders to kee their motives ure. Buddy%s excellent counsel will do much to disel, biblically, the erroneous "discileshi" teaching that has come along in recent years, leading eole off into needless bondage. !his is a book to be studied carefully in an age when authority is being misused and abused. 3 Contents Foreword 5 Acknowledgment 9 Introduction - 4estoration of 2uthority -5 / "od+!he &ureme 2uthority /* 0 6evels of 2uthority Under "od 00 1 6eadershi *7 * &ubmission or 8bedience9 5* 3 4uling 'ith 6iberty :7 !he "inistry of #elps 99 Ac"no$edg#ent 'hen the 6ord soke to my heart concerning the sovereignty of "od, I started on a search for truth. I will be eternally grateful to 4alh ,ahoney for the truth he brought to my life through his taes. !he basics of this book were derived from his taes, couled with knowledge which I reviously ossessed, and more revelation and insight from "od which has brought us to this oint. !hank "od, this is not the end. !here is more to come. 7 Introduction 'henever you talk about miracles, you touch the area of the sovereignty of "od. ;eole automatically identify a miracle by referring to it as "a sovereign act of "od." But one time the &irit of "od soke to me, saying, "Have you ever noticed that the word sovereign is not in the <ew !estament9" I couldn%t think of a scriture at that moment, so I began to study it out. !o my surrise, I found it to be true. !he word sovereign is not used in the <ew !estament+not even once. !herefore I reali#ed there needed to be (ualifications on exactly what we mean when using certain terminology. "Cou have authority. !herefore, if Cou seak the word only, my servant will be healed." Aesus relied to the centurion in this way. I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel .v. 7@. Cou have been given a certain amount of authority as a result of your birth. Birth becomes your legal entry on this earth. It is necessary to be born on earth in order to have authority here. "od created man to fellowshi and work with. 'hen He created the earth, He gave 2dam dominion to rule and reign. "od and 2dam walked and talked together in the "arden. !hey were close friends. !hey communed with one another. But as a result of taking heed to the words of the Devil, 2dam committed high treason.
