Activities included improving printing and viewing capabilities by downloading Adobe Reader, Firefox and Chrome browsers, and Microsoft Office to the new PACs; having the two remaining Vista PACs uploaded with a new version of Deep Freeze to improve their ability to be updated; installing a new APC battery backup to the server; and updating all anti-virus software on staff computers. Staff also consulted with CDW-G about improving security and privacy by purchasing an SSL certificate and Firewall protection. Quotes will be available for the board at their next meeting. The library will also consider purchasing off-site backup of the library catalog at their next meeting. c) WILBOR Update The WILBOR consortium voted to begin purchasing eBooks from Harper Collins again after a two year boycott of all HC titles because of their rigid policies regarding circulation regulations and high prices. Most of the big six publishers have adopted similar policies so it was agreed that it was foolish to continue the boycott. 4) Advocacy: a) Friends of the Library Fundraisers During city-wide garage sale week, the Friends held a book sale with modest profits. The Friends are also planning to sell handmade cards and bridge tallies at the library circulation desk. They are planning a summer membership drive and also the Fall Quilt Silent Auction. Their next meeting is scheduled for June 10 th at 9:30 a.m. b) Money Smart Week A Money Smart Kids READ event was held on April 10 th
during Money Smart Week with city administrator Adam Ledford dressed up as Ben Franklin. The costume was borrowed from Northwest Bank. Children in grades 2-5 received a book bag filled with free books about investing and saving and a moon jar. c) Library Community Survey The library community survey will be mailed to all Sac City residents through the city utility bills in mid-May. The survey is open until June 16 th and can be filled out in paper or online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/CQYP83G. A plan has also been created to distribute surveys to apartments and assisted living facilities and to county residents with return boxes available at the library and grocery store. The library will promote the survey on the library website, Facebook, Sac Sun, and other advertising channels in the community. Because of the citys blue space survey, distribution of our survey has been pushed back a few weeks. 5) Continuing Education: a) Iowa Small Library Association Spring Meeting City administrator Adam Ledford presented the program for the ISLA Spring Meeting called Meeting in the Middle to discuss how libraries can form better relationships with their cities. There were 45 in attendance and the survey results about the program were very positive.
