Creative, Talented in Lego architecture and has the team management
ability. Curious of how things work, lways !ondering about creating
sci"fi ob#ects into reality, mostly. $e somehow #ust know to !ut stuff
together and got it to work on its su!!osed manner.
TAN SHIN! "U#N
%esign Engineer
Talented with the !encil, he can create wonders after wonders of
drawings. $el!s by giving ideas and !ossibilities. $e is best known as
the man of wind due to his knowledge of aerodynamics. $e is most
!assionate to be an engineer.
A#ROO$ IRFAN b. AMURI
&esource Manager
'osseses the ability to make money (source unknown). $el!s !re!are
the team ensure everything is adecuate. $e is also most notorious for
his brain( out of the bo) thinker.
## CHUN %AH
*ra!hics %esigner
s creative as he is annoying, he can think of a !erfect design then
creating outstanding !iece of work. $is notable contribution is mostly
motivation.
Team H&'tor(
The team was founded through student with s!ecial ca!abilities. fter much consideration, team leader, Tun +oachim gathered a few students to form the team. The team members selected are ,erool
-rfan, Ee Chun .ah and Tan /hing 0uen. The love and need for s!eed ins!ired each of us to #oin the F) in /chools com!etition. The team name was ins!ired by the the word 1T$ET2. Through this word, the
team agreed to combine the words Theta and E)!erimental together, forming 1TET"E32. The colours were selected by team leader, Tun +oachim. The colours selected were black, yellow and white. The colour
yellow and white were choosen to give a striking im!ression on the car.
Car Design Concept
Concept
The car we created uses several designs but the most !rominent ideas are4
" !!lication of 5ernoulli6s 'ricin!le
" /treamline (&educing the drag coeffiecient)
" 'ost F) car aerodynamics analysis
The car sha!e is similar to the 78 (only from the nose to the midsection). The side!ods is ad#usted to
ensure minimal airflow obstruction created from the wheels. The wings will share similar aerofoil
(though the front wing will have one uni9ue !air).
The Ca*'+le (surroundings of the C:; chamber) will be sha!ed of an inclined wedge (and rather
cylindrical).
The No'e (7ront .ing) is a frontal structure that consists of a series of two !airs of wings and an air
channel. The structure is sim!le and rigid. -t is detachable for re!lacement uses and<or for storage.
There are currently three different sets of s!oilers for the car.
The Ta&l (&ear .ing) has only one !air of wings and a su!!ort structure (vertical and hori, ontal). -t is
located at the end middle of the Ca!sule. The wing however is located behind the wheel #ust a few
milimetres above the rear wheel a)le. The reason for this is to reduce the drag created from the wing.
The entire structure is removable.
BERNOULLI's THEORY
The 7ormula 8 car6s front wing is based on the reverse of the 5ernoulli6s theory. The sha!e of the front
wing is the reverse of an aircraft6s wing which on an aircraft creates an u!force and gives the aircraft
lift. Meanwhile, on
a 7ormula 8 car the front wing creates downforce instead to give it more gri! and stability.
STREAMLINE
The 7ormula car6s aerodynamics sha!ed its car to a more streamline sha!e reduceing air friction
allowing it to move easily through the air. The aerodynamics of our car is sha!ed to allow air to move
around the car freely enough reducing drag.
Research For Car Design
The research done for the car design are listed4

" at the wheel
" at the Ca!sule
" at the wings

R#SU$TS
A&r Re'&'tance
.e have identified several indication of drag at three notorious s!ots4
" The wheels
The !roblem is that when the wheel rotates, it rotates counter"clockwise causing unnescessary
downforce. The
solution overcoming this !roblem is to enclosed the front side of the wheels (without obstructing the
to! view). This will hel! directing the most of the air .0 from the wheels.
" rea surrounding the Ca!sule
The !roblem was that too much air is being dis!laced and too little air is re!laced. The solution was
a!!lying sli!stream at the Ca!sule. This !rove a very significant !roblem due to that it may affect our
car original conce!t.The best solution was to make the Ca!sule as streamline as !ossible reducing
drag.
" .ind redirection of the wings
/tability also comes with a !rice( it reduces s!eed. /everal designs of aerofoils were conducted to find
the best. The solution for the wings is #ust to ad#ust the angle of attack so that it is #ust !ro!ortional to
the airflow but also a!!lying enough downforce ensuring contact to the ground while also not too
thick until it increases drag.
Man+,act+r&n- mater&al'
To ensure a smooth airflow on the car6s surface (or skin), we discovered that sanding alone is not
enough. .e have come u! an idea of covering the wooden surface with a thin layer of !lastic sheet
(about =.>mm). -t is a!!lied by covering it, then heated until it is com!letely sealed. The !aint will be
added by s!ray !ainting after it is cooled. The construction of the wings will be created from !lastic by
using a cast. This method will !rove effective as this method can allow us to make a variaty of o!tions
at a !rice.
Review of The Brief & Spcification
Aerodynamics
erodynamics is the branch of science
devoted to the study of the flow of air
around and through solid ob#ects. -t is
es!ecially im!ortant in the design of cars
which move through air.
:ne !rimary forces in aerodynamics is
drag. -n order to overcome the drag
coefficient, we have took three im!ortant
factors in consideration in designing the car.
Stability
.e found that smaller tyrereduces gri!
and reduce drag hence enabling higher
straight s!eeds.
More rubber, more gri!. Ma)imum
amount of gri! by widening the tyre as
wide as !ossible. More tyre threads is to
decrease wear.
Downforce
.ith using an inverted wing which is an
inversely aircraft wing, we can generate
downforce by creating a !ressure
differential between the to! and bottom
wing.
5ecause of the wing !rofile, a higher
!ressure is !orduced on the to! !art of the
wing. s a result, the higher !ressure of air
!ushes down the while the lower !ressure
on the bottom air !ush u!. The !ressure
difference generates downforce.
Speed
.e will minimi,e the frontal are by using
the 786s narrow nose design that will
eventually reduce drag. Thus making the
car to move as fast as !ossible.
