Sustainable growth lies in quality human resource

May 1st should be celebrated by taking a more holistic view of human resource development,
which is the key to our pursuit of an inclusive and sustainable socio-economic growth for our
country, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, r! declared on the eve of "abor #ay!
$Filipino human resources are in demand globally! %e see our countrymen at work in
numerous occupations and contribute to the growth of those nations! %hy then should we not take a
long term view and develop mutually beneficial programs to improve the &uality of our human
resources for the benefit of our very own nation, he said!
Belmonte said that human resource development is intertwined with, among other socio-
economic concerns, programs on health, education and technology development, agriculture and
food production, peace and security, environment protection, human rights, and the intensifying fight
against corruption in all levels of the bureaucracy!
Belmonte also noted laws and legislative initiatives that raised government revenues to fund
various socio-economic programs that continue to upgrade the &uality of the country's human
resource!
$%hile ( agree that issues affecting wages and workers' benefits are truly important, there are,
however, e&ually vital concerns that should be taken into consideration if we are to build a &uality
human resource for our nation! %hile addressing the issues of today, we should not lose sight of our
long term ob)ective which is bringing forth a brighter future for generations of Filipinos, the *ouse
leader said!
$%e should not stagnate and remain as a nation of factory workers, or be satisfied with being
workers of foreign companies! %e should already be laying down the foundations for creating a
&uality human resource of entrepreneurs, technology specialists and developers, inventors and other
economic production leaders, he stressed!
$(ndifference has no place in the country's march towards being globally competitive,
Belmonte said as he urged every citi+en to give even an ounce of concern and transform this into
concrete action towards achieving inclusive and sustained economic growth!
$,ach Filipino is an important piece in the development pu++le, an asset, the *ouse leader
said, stressing that while the road towards growth is seldom easy, it is a necessary challenge we must
take on to move ahead!

achieve a strong, creative and &uality human resource!
