Objectives (Students Will) A.1. Organize and sort the vocabulary words according to meaning, category, and position.

Formative Assessment -Students will create a writing response to show how much they learned and retained from the lecture/activity involving the three types of galaxies. -Students will be observed and asked questions to ensure their

understanding of the vocabulary words. -Students will be creating their own closed word sort with the vocabulary to exchange in class.

Materials 1. Pencil 2. Paper 3. Vocabulary words 4. Computer, internet, flashcard game 4. Dictionary if needed

Lesson Beginning Students will play the flashcard game online as a group to introduce the vocabulary words and their meanings. Students will be given several categories in which to sort their vocabulary words. The directions will be explained and the students will begin sorting their words accordingly. Lesson Development When the students finish and have been checked, the categories and their words will be discussed as to why the words fit into certain categories and not others.

Then they will be given a new set of categories and will resort their words. When finished, again the categories/words will be discussed. Closure The students will be asked to create their own word sort that they will exchange with a peer on the following day to complete. This will reinforce the meanings of the vocabulary words.

Difficulties The internet may not connect to the flashcard game. The students may not understand the directions of the word sort or the definitions of the words.
