Text analysis of The happy man

The author of this text, Maugham was an English writer born in France. At the beginning he studied and worked as a doctor ,and this experience helped him to write his first work Liza of Lambeth. After this he left the medicine and became a writer. This text of Maugham is a bout a man that once gave an advice to a doctor, after years they meet and that doctor is very thankful , because that advice changed his life. The title of the text is a simple fraze that denotes a positive note. The type of the title is spiritual ,and expressive because it relates the whole idea of the story and it impact on the reader. The style of this text is belle-lettre, written in prose .Its a story that has a psychological note, and has the purpose to educate in us the idea that life is much more than money. The text starts with a description of our main character, his thoughts and some life experiences , and then goes the narration of a story. The narrator is overt and omniscient because he speaks from the 1st person point of view, and he easily express his emotions and feeling towards to life, advices and people in his life. The narrator is autodiegetic that follow a straight narrative line and the focalization is fixed because the narrator is the protagonist that presents the story and his opinion and point of view towards to it in a chronological order. The prologue introduces the main character, our man, and describe his conception about life and people. The conflict is the moment when the doctor, secondary character, came to this man for an advice about his life. The climax presents the moment when the man ,after years met that doctor in Spain. And finally the outcome is the speech between these 2 men where the doctor thanks for the advice, that change his entire life in a good way. The theme of the text is based on the idea that sometimes, in life, a good advice can change all your expectations an conceptions about what is primordial for you day bay day. The idea of the text illustrate that people should pay attention to higher thing than money, and that you should try to find things that make you happy and brings you confidence and harmony in your life. The main character is our narrator that has a strong personality and understand what is important in this life. The secondary character, the doctor, is an always-searching personality which feels that in his life something is missing, and then we understand that Spain was missing with all its complexity. Both of them understand that in this life everything should be done for yourself, for your heart wellbeing and for your soul. As a conclusion I can say that the text is based on a great idea of humanity ,because each of us at least once has the problem and the misunderstanding with life and himself. I like it because is an example to follow from both points of view.
