Citizens must come out and exercise their voting rights to live in democracy and to live democracy.

Why Should Citizens Vote: In India, Right to Vote is a constitutional Right provided to every citizen over 18 years of age. But, voting right is treated as optional as we dont have any law which says that voting is compulsory for every citizen. Therefore, many voters, especially in urbanites, youth..etc., treat the polling day as a day of rest and holiday. While not exercising the vote may not cause any immediate harm but the long-term consequences are very disastrous. Everyone should vote because: Vote for Change: Vote is the agent of change. If you think that the ruling party is under performing or not performing its duties satisfactorily, you can overthrow it by voting against it. Refraining from voting may result in the same party, or much worse one forming the Government for the next five years. Your vote counts: In a populous country like ours, a disappointed voter may feel that a single vote does not make any difference. However, when this feeling becomes a national attitude and thousands, lakhsperhaps millionsof votes are not cast, the balance tilts. By casting vote, citizens may not be able to get the best candidate elected but by refraining from voting they improve the chances of the undesirable, unsuitable candidates winning the polls. Finally, it is only the voter who has to be the sufferer because of poor governance. Your voice will be heard: Every vote is a medium of expression. In a vast and diverse country like ours, different regions have different problems and concerns. The Election process allows everyone to have a say in the decision making process. It is true that no one can predict the election outcome, but by not casting a vote, the voter is overthrowing the chance of being heard. Voting should be a responsibility: Voting should not only be right but also responsibility. The whole constitution of India is built on the foundation of Election process and Voting. If voters arent careful about casting their vote or skip their vote altogether, it may throw a problem to the very existence of the Democracy. If you dont vote, you are sacrificing your right As said, voting is a constitutional right of every individual and so exercising the voting right should be treated as duty. If you abstain from voting, you do not have any moral right to criticize the elected political leaders. If you do not vote, you are unnecessarily sacrificing their sacred right. Casting Vote is an honor: Finally, casting a vote is an honor for the citizens given by the founding fathers. By casting your vote, you demonstrate your respect for the history of the country. It can't be denied that the recent democratic experience in India has not been encouraging. For the past several years, India has been struggling with rampant corruption, unsure economy, and unclear foreign policy. Election after election has seen ineffective governments come to power that have done more harm than good. However, not casting one's vote will only worsen the condition. It is our duty as responsible citizens of India to make informed decisions and choose the best candidate from those presented.

At a point in time where corruption is rampant within our government, and the most of the youth of India are more apathetic towards voting, we understand the importance of educating the youth, our future leaders, to rise above and demand the accountability we deserve. In order to do this however, one must first stimulate the youth's political awareness there by empowering them to bring about the necessary change. Moreover, with reforms like Right to reject gaining wider support, it wouldn't be long before the system of elections is improved. (Can discuss the electoral reforms (recall, referendum, policy initiation by citizens itself) which may be useful to our democratic process) While we are in the process of electing 16 th Loksabha at the center and state assembly in the newly born state we need to be at most careful to caste our vote and making sure that we voted for a leader who works for the development of society and people there by state and country as whole.

Voting is an honor and duty, do vote and elect the Govt. of your Choice
