As noted in the gra!h Legend3 the green line re!resents the calculated force in the lateral direction3 along the rotational a4is of the revolute joint The red line re!resents the calculated force along the rotational a4is of the cylindrical joint %y definition there is no constraint a!!lied along the rotational a4is of a cylindrical joint Therefore3 the revolute joint must absorb all the lateral force that results from the system swinging side to side 7n the ne4t section of the lab3 we will see the resulting forces when both the %oom&cyl&swing&cylindrical and #round&revolute are re!laced by bushings
A %ushing 5orce *lement is a si4 degree of freedom force A force element !rescribes com!liant motion between the connecting bodies The com!liance of the element is defined based on three stiffness and three dam!ing values in all si4 degrees of freedom The "irtual Lab Reference 0anual !rovides a detailed descri!tion of each force coefficient A -tandard %ushing 5orce *lement re6uires an a4is system be defined on each of the connecting bodies These a4is systems have been inserted on the boom$3 boom&cyl3 and swing bodies

The legend indicates that the red !lot is the 5orce C;D calculated in the lateral direction for -tandard %ushing 13 and the green !lot is the 5orce C;D calculated in the lateral direction for -tandard %ushing $ As indicated by the !lots the force that was !reviously being e4erted entirely within the #round&revolute3 has now been evenly distributed between two e6ual bushing forces The force calculated for each bushing is now e6ual but o!!osite in sign This is one method of distributing force within a system
