Hosting International Teachers for Decades

Since 1957, Kent State University has hosted exceptional educators from around the world, including Fulbright Scholars, governmental leaders, writers, humanitarian, among others. Notably, KSU has received funding for the IREX International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) for the past eight years to bring 15 20 teachers from Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South America to the campus each spring semester. ILEP scholars are engaged in a variety of activities during the semester, including participation in academic seminars, assistant teaching in local public schools, and assisting refugee resettlement with the Akron International Institute.

Preparing Students for IB


Kent State University is home to the first undergraduate and graduate degree program in the world to be recognized for the International Baccalaureate (IB) PYP Certificate in Teaching & Learning. Under this recognition, Early Childhood Educators graduating from Kent State will be qualified to serve in Ohio, but also in any of the IB World Schools that exist in over 128 countries.

Internationalizing Teacher Education


Along with Miami University and The University of Akron, Kent State University worked to develop state-level models for internationalizing teacher education programs through a granted awarded by the Longview Foundation.

Student Teaching Overseas


For more than 40 years, KSU has been an active member of the Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching (COST), a collaborative effort between 15 U.S. colleges and universities that has placed education majors in student teaching positions in 18 countries.

Transitions for International Students


The Academic Orientation to the Discipline is a newly developed course for provisionally admitted international graduate students to promote academic and cultural adjustment. Course topics covered include: Finding success in the American classroom, academic resources, intercultural communication, reading and writing at the graduate level, conducting research, plagiarism, creating resumes and locating internships.

Developing Global Educators for Tomorrows Colleges and Universities

The School of Foundations, Leadership and Administration offers an Internationalization of Higher Education Certificate program. This 15-credit hour certificate, which includes an internship experience, is completed as a standalone program or as a complement to another degree program.
