EDSML Guidance to completing the Assignment for Unit 1, 7 and 12 (An external examiners expectations on the students work)
Unit 1 - Task 1 (covers LO1) - In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to: To achieve 1.1.1 - You need to explain the link between Management and Leadership styles (theoretical). To achieve 1.1.2 - You need to analyse the impacts (both positive and negative) of Management and Leadership styles on strategic decisions. To achieve 1.1.3 & 1.3.2 - Please ensure your discussion should evaluate (weigh-up with plus and the minus) how the selected TWO leadership styles can be used for different situations (in the future). The best way is - you must identify suitable (fictitious) examples to support your argument. Unit 1 - Task 2 (covers LO2)- In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To achieve 1.2.1 - You need to identify TWO management theories and TWO leadership theories from those that you have learnt in the class, and examine the impact these theories on the selected Growth Strategy you believe Tesco is pursuing. To achieve 1.2.2, and 1.3.1 - Using your discussion for 1.2.1 above, suggest a leadership strategy that you think is best for Tesco to enter into the future (where it wishes to go). - When suggesting this strategy, if you use methodical approach showing how you select the leadership strategy and why you think it is the best (1.3.1) Unit 1 - Task 3 (covers LO4) - In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To achieve 1.4.1 - You need to discuss YOUR potential PLAN, on how you propose to develop the leadership skills for the Tescos future GROWTH. (Please note that a) you are the new CEO, and b) you want Tesco to grow, c) in this context you need to suggest how you will develop Tescos leadership skills i.e. Leading by Quality, Leading by Brand, Leading by Price , Value provider, Volume for Family Provider etc. ) To achieve 1.4.2 - You should/must state (reporting) the usefulness of those methods you used above in your planning phase when writing the above. (Do not prepare a separate REPORT). The best advice is to write a holistic answer. Unit 7 - Task 1 (covers LO1) - In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To achieve 7.1.1 - You must identify and comment on the ROLE of strategic marketing in Tesco (in line with how it happens theoretically in any marketing firm), and To achieve 7.1.2 - In the discussion, you must identify the associated processes (stages) of the strategic marketing in Tesco complementing the ROLE. To achieve 7.1.3 - Using your write-up for above 7.1.1 and 7.1.2, you must now evaluate the LINKS between strategic marketing and corporate strategy of Tescos for its future growth.

2 Unit 7 - Task 2 (covers LO 2, LO 3) - In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To achieve 7.2.1 - You as the new CEO propose Tesco to re-position itself in the market place. You must assess the worthiness of the model you used in your Strategic Marketing Planning. To achieve 7.2.2 and 7.2.3 - Your discussion should include the links between strategic positioning and Relationship Marketing tactics. To achieve 7.3.1 - Please ensure to include discussion on the future opportunities available for Tesco (through appropriate analysis) To achieve 7.3.2 - and suggest suitable but different strategic options available To achieve 7.3.3 - for your proposed new Marketing objectives. [The best way to answer this part is to plan holistically, and follow a logical order: use a model to assess the worthiness of re-positioning in line with the strategic options for available opportunities in the future using relationship tactics.] Unit 7 - Task 3 (covers LO 4) - In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To avchieve 7.4.2 - Perform a suitable strategic analysis on Tesco, identify the strengths and weakness in the current marketing strategy price & volume. (Do not seek TESCOs Strengths/Weakness.) It is on their strategy Price & Volume To achieve 7.4.1 - Present your justification/rationalisation/argument for changing the current strategy, and its anticipated impact on the external environment. ~(Remember all about marketing is the knowledge of the impacts in the environment due to firms strategy) To achieve 7.4.3 - On considering above, now you have to propose how you will lead the Tesco into the future as the new CEO. Unit 12 - Task 1 (covers LO1)- In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To achieve 12.1.1. - You need to explain why you think knowledge about environmental factors affecting Tesco is important to todays CEOs. To achieve 12.1.2 - In your explanation, you must also include the importance of having knowledge of stake holders expectation as one of the factors. To achieve 12.1.3 - In your discussion above, you need to comment on the MAJOR CHANGES taking place in the environment that will affect your proposed strategy for TESCO. You should not simply list any effects/impacts, but must discuss how this could affect your formulated strategy? Unit 12 - Task 2 (covers LO2)- In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To achieve 12.2.1 - Document evidence of you performing the necessary analysis on Tesco (using published reports provided on the OCL Portal/public domain information) To achieve 12.3.2 - to identify the effects/impetus on its current (Business) plan. 3 To achieve 12.2.2 - identify and rationalise on which position they hold in the Market To achieve 12.2.3 - Upon completing the tasks above, now evaluate how competitive their current business strategies are????
(This gives you the hint that strategic analysis and knowledge of its position helps better to direct any firm)

Unit 12 - Task 3 (covers LO 3, LO 4)- In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To achieve 12.3.1 and 12.3.3. - (Having knowledge of environmental factors and the market position from Task 2 above) Justify with suitable arguments on your proposed TWO strategic options available for Tesco To achieve 12.4.1 - And how you will include Tescos stakeholders in your strategy for future To achieve 12.4.2 - And a new structure you would propose to create for new Tesco operations under your leadership To achieve 12.4.3 - And what are your anticipated Resource implications Unit 12 - Task 4 (covers LO5)- In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To achieve 12.5.1 - Identify and use an appropriate model (from what you have learnt) to examine the factors affecting TESCOs strategic plan. To achieve 12.5.2 & 12.5.3 - As the NEW CEO, develop a Vision and Mission Statements for Tescos future To achieve 12.5.4 - Suggest New Corporate objectives and explain how you will measure the strategic plan. Unit 12 - Task 5 (covers LO6)- In order to gain a pass, all criteria must be attended to. To achieve 12.6.1 - Present an Implementation Schedule for implementing your most suitable strategy at Tesco To achieve 12.6.2 - In your implementation plan, incorporate a suitable dissemination process to secure stakeholders commitment for your proposed strategy at Tesco. To achieve 12.6.3 - You must design, and suggest suitable monitoring and evaluation system(s) to monitor the implementation of proposed strategy plan.
