LESSON PLAN ENGLISH IV


I. Target Competency Identify whether the text is journalistic, academic, literary or scientific Learning Goals The students are expected to: identify whether the text is journalistic, academic, literary or scientific; classify journalistic, academic, literary and scientific texts; and value the significance of journalistic, academic, literary and scientific. II. Subject Matter Identifying journalistic, academic, literary and scientific texts Source English Expressways Textbook for Fourth Year Materials parallel texts, manila paper, marker, LCD projector III. Learning Tasks a. Motivation/Priming (5 minutes) 1. Words/phrases will be shown to the class relative to journalistic, academic, literary and scientific texts. 2. Ask: What ideas can you associate with the words/phrases? b. Tasks Task 1. Lead Me (8 minutes) 1. Different texts will be shown to the class. 2. The teacher will lead the students in identifying whether the text is journalistic, academic, literary or scientific. Task 2. Texts Gallery (20 minutes) 1. The class will be divided into five groups. A leader will be chosen among them. 2. Each group will visit the Texts Gallery. There will be five exhibits dubbed as: Exhibit No. 1 Twitter, Exhibit No. 2 Facebook, Exhibit No. 3 Yahoo, Exhibit No. 4 Google and Exhibit No. 5 My Space. 3. The group will only be given one (1) minute to choose two (2) texts from each exhibit. 4. After choosing ten (10) excerpts, they will classify each text as to journalistic, academic, literary or scientific text. 5. The leader shall report their output.

Closure Students Insights: There are different types of texts that we can come across with. It can be academic, literary, scientific or journalistic in nature. Synthesis This lesson allows you to identify several text types. Texts can be classified into academic, journalistic in style, literary and even scientific. These can be summarized into: Text types Characteristics Examples Literary fiction and non-fiction poems, essays, prose and non-prose stories, plays and novels Academic formal in structure and thesis, dissertation, style book report, usually serious, intended research article for a critical and informed audience, based on closely investigated knowledge Scientific likely to concentrate on Drug prescription, the components of a scientific processes system and their relationships, the events and processes that occur during the working of the system, and the uses of the system logical structures Journalistic information and impact Straight news, feature article

Homework Compile and classify journalistic, academic, literary and scientific texts. Use short bond paper. Be creative. Consider the rubrics: Classification of texts 40% Quantity of compiled texts 30% Creativity 30% TOTAL 100%
