EIP Proposal (First Draft) Morriah Striplin Science Professors of UNCC The EIP proposal I wished to research centers around College Professors at UNCC that work within the science department. I chose this group for a number of reasons, such as access to the individuals for interviews and observation, but primarily because my mom is one of the Professors of UNCC. I have noticed over the semesters that both my parents have a great deal of work and stress during the midterms and finals far more than the average student. Because of this observation I decided to use this opportunity to research college professors for my paper. I firmly believe that this insight into the hardships of professors will also help any students who read my work, as I do not believe many would think to ask about the responsibilities of their teachers. How does expectation and stress effect the mentality of UNCC science professors? This is the major question that I want to address in my research, as I think it is pertinent to students to understand how their teachers perceive their work. I also wish to address some other questions that tie into the teacher student interactions and mentality on the part of the professors. Particularly, do professors suffer from test stress? And how to expectations on students by teachers change in the higher courses? I believe these questions particularly the latter are relevant to doing well within college because one can know what is expected of them within school. There are some other aspects of teaching that I want to explore as well, such as the differences in duties between professors (such as research and class management.) These questions correlate to the amount of work a professor devotes to teaching and changes the

stress the professor is subject to. A professor who teaches exclusively will have different levels of stress than a professor who mainly does research, or one who teaches and manages. I also want to see if these levels of responsibility in any way correlate to the amount of money they are paid or if other boons are obtained. What are the pros and cons of a UNCC teaching position?
Commented [MS6]: This question seems a little disconnected from the previous questions Commented [MS5]: I dont think this is particularly necessary in the EIP proposal.
