Use of Source- This source will be used in our project to introduce examples of early tattoos for our History section of research. Weakness- While this source gives a nice in depth look at tattoos in Egyptian society; it offers little into any other cultures relation to tattooing. Strength- This source is very informative on the tattoos of Egyptian society and even describes how tattoos were viewed and even the meanings behind them. This means that along with the History section of our project, this source can contribute to the Culture section. This source is also very credible in that it is a museum. 2. Frank, "The Gorgeous History Of Tattoos, From 1900 To Present." HUFFPOST ARTS & CULTURE. The Huffington Post, 17 Mar 2014. Web. 2 Apr 2014. <http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/17/tattoo-history_n_4957215.html>. In Text- (Frank) Purpose- This source offers a great collection of pictures showing the progression of tattoos through the 20th century. Use of source- This source will be utilized in the visual aspect of our presentation of the project. Weakness- This source is not very information-heavy. Strength- This source offers a collected variety of tattoo art covering the 1900s and gives the viewer a clear differentiation between the popular tattoos of the decades. This means that this source will be utilized in the History portion of the Powe rPoint presentation. 3. Franklin-Barbajosa, "Tattoo: Pigments of Imagination." National Geographic Magazine. In Text- (Franklin-Barbajosa) Purpose- The purpose of this source is to inform the reader of the progression of tattooing from the first found on an ice-man 5000 years ago to the tattoos of today. Use of source- This source could prove useful in the information gathered about the history of tattooing as a whole.

Weaknesses- This source only briefly touches on each point in history and does not go into much detail. This source also lacks visuals. Strengths- This source is very reliable because it is written by the National Geographic magazine whose writers take measures to provide the public with credible information. 4. McKay, Eric. In Text- (McKay) Purpose- This sources purpose is to inform the reader on the evolution of the tattoo machine or tattoo gun from Thomas Edisons first rotary pen to todays dual coil electromagnetic device. Use of source- This source could prove useful in the Tools section of our research f or the project because of the extensive information into the tattoo machine. This source might also be used in the History section as well. Weakness- This website is not as up to date as I would like for our project in leaving out the pneumatic gun patented somewhere around 2000. Strength- This source has very in depth research with many visual aids that will prove useful in our presentation. 5. Coffey, Maude. "Ancient Tattoo Equipment." LIVESTRONG.com. In Text- (Coffey) Purpose- This articles purpose is to inform the reader of the different early tattooing equipment and techniques used by nations all around the world. Use of source- This source could prove useful in the Tools section of our research because it gives details about early tools used and the different techniques used in tattoing all around the world, pre tattoo machines. Weakness- The credibility of this site is questionable. Strengths- This source can be crucial in the first half of the research done on tools and could possibly even be tied into the History section of our research project. 6. US FDA, "Tattoo Inks Pose Health Risks." U.S. Food and Drug Administration: For Consumers. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 10 Feb 2014. In Text- (US FDA, Health Risks) Purpose- This article was written to inform the reader of health concerns and risks associated with the ink used in tattooing. Use of source- This source will be utilized in the Tools section of our research in regards to research on specifically ink.

Weakness- No actual author was found for this source but it is from the FDA so credibility is questionable. Strength- This article gives in depth, specific information on the health hazards associated with tattoo inks and also provides a couple visuals for the presentation. 7. US FDA, "Think Before You Ink: Are Tattoos Safe?." U.S. Food and Drug Administration: For Consumers. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 23 Feb 2009. In Text- (US FDA, Think Before) Purpose- This article was written to inform the reader of the growing tattoo industry with specific examples such as cosmetic tattooing. This article also touches on some health and safety concerns associated with tattooing in general. Use of source- This source will be used in the Culture and Tools sections of our research. Weakness- This article also does not specify an author so credibility is questionable. Strength- This article is very useful in the modern examples of tattooing trends such as cosmetics that can be used in the Culture section of research while also useful in the Tools section by providing examples of health risks associated with tools used in tattooing. 8. In Text- (Hardy) Purpose- This is a documentary about a tattoo artist and the techniques he uses along with where inspiration is drawn for his tattoos. Use of source- This source could be useful for all areas of our research by giving personal opinions from an artist through his eyes. Weakness- Most of source is opinion based so informations credibility is questionable. Strength- This video can be utilized in every aspect of the overall project making it an important source of information. 9. Mascia-Lees, Frances, and Patricia Sharpe. Tattoo, Torture, Mutilation, and Adornment:the denaturalization of the body in culture and text. Albany: State University of New York Press, 1992. Print. In Text- (Mascia-Lees, Frances, Sharpe) Purpose- This book is written to inform the reader of different body modifications (including tattooing) and how these modifications are viewed by society around the world. Use of source- This book will be utilized in our research in both the History and Culture categories. Weakness- This source appears to be a leaning towards the anti-tattoo view associated with the conservative view of body modification.

Strength- This source is written from an anthropological standpoint so many useful scientific facts about society and tattoo relations are present. 10. Fisher, Jill. "Tattooing the Body, Marking Culture." . SAGE Publications, 2002. Web. 25 Mar 2014. <jillfisher.net>. In Text- (Fisher) Purpose- This article attempts to educate the reader on tattooing in general as an art form and its roots in culture. Use of source- This source will prove useful in the Culture section of the project research because of its pro-tattoo standpoint on tattooing and its affect on culture. Weakness- This source is mainly opinion based with few scientific facts so credibility is questionable. Strength- This article offers a pro-tattoo standpoint. This will be useful in the final project in that it can be used to expose the reader to multiple views of tattooing.
