Kyle Nelson YOUR NAME: James Berlin AUTHOR(S): TITLE OF TEXT: Rhetoric and Ideology in the Writing Class
1) What is the authors main claim? How do you know?

The main claim is the there are three type of rhetoric that have showed up in the classrooms of universities. Also, how ideology influences rhetoric. I know this because the author mentions the classroom many times and always ties it in when they are explaining something.
2) What are three pieces of evidence that the author uses to support this claim?

! "I would like to bring the discussion I began up there to date, focusing on ideology in three rhetoric" ! (Berlin 477). "The university was an important part of this strategy to control this economic instability" ! (Berlin 480). "Once again, the possibility that this consensus about what is good and possible is a ! product of class interest and class experience is never seriously entertained" (Berlin 484). ! "#!$%!&'(!)*&'%+,-!.)/(!0)123!41)2.-5!6'789'7!:%&5! ! The author does make valid claims. For example, Berlin talks about how ideology influences societies ! decisions, which I agree with. He also explains how the outcome is unpredictable in a teaching ! environment because there are different ways to teach certain things. ! ! ;#!<%9!3%(-!&'2-!&(=&!+(1)&(!&%!):%&'(+!>2(4(!%?!+()32:@!?+%.!&'2-!41)--!A%+!?+%.!()+12(+! 4%.>%-2&2%:!4%*+-(-#5!<%9!)+(!&'(!)*&'%+,-!2:&(+)4&2:@!A-2.21)+!&%>24-B!32+(4&17!.(:&2%:2:@!
