Annotated Bibliography Primary Sources Documents "Document 17"- Foreign Relation of the U.S.

1964-1968, Volume 1, Vietnam, office of the Historian. We used various excerpts from this source to help us prove the government had a responsibility to protect the South Vietnamese from communism. This source provided us with background information about the war, it also had useable and relevant documents and information beneficial for our website. Interview Interview with Noel Groff. Personal Interview. 8 March 2014. We asked Mr. Groff about his military experience, he expressed how he was a professional military man and join the U.S. Navy long before the war started. He told us his job in the war was simply to shuttle aircraft and troops from the Philippines into Vietnam. He also described some of his best war stories. From this interview, we learned that not everyone opposed what the government was doing in Vietnam. Interview with Mike Billows. Phone Interview. 31 March 2014. During our conversation with Mr. Billows, he described his feelings about the war. He gave us a brief overview of his life prior to the war, and he then told us how he ended up going to Vietnam even though he was in college.

The speech by President Johnson was used to solidify our knowledge on how the government responded to the Tet Offensive. We needed more information on how he managed the threat of possible war, and the alternative opinions he brought to the table.

He created a program to have economic and military aid sent to France. We choose to use this source because it gave us a starting point for the U.S. involvement in the war.

This source gave us background information about the Vietnam War and also talks about why the U.S. felt they needed to enter the war. Additionally, it gave us a well written summary of the end of the war that we used on the End of the War page.

"U.S. Involvement in the Vietnam War: The tet offensive, 1968-1961-milestones office of the historian" From these quotes and site, we understood that the Tet Offensive was an important part of the North Vietnameses plan to weaken the United States. It expressed how the North Vietnamese had been planning the massive attack for months before it happened.

This was a secondary source and is the timeline used on the website. Frankum, Ronald Bruce, and Stephen F. Maxner. The Vietnam War for Dummies. New York, NY: Wiley Pub., 2003. Print. This book is a great secondary source that allowed us to learn more about the Vietnam War in depth.

The Domino effect is what lead to the war, what started it. We used this picture to help prove our thesis statement by showing what the United States thought the consequences of spreading communism would be. This bombing video proved to us what the United States got involved with. What they went through. We used this to show how the bombings summed up the war to lead it to an ending. This clip was a part of the history channel so we know it was a very valuable source. It helped us prove that towards the end of the war the Fall of the Berlin wall was a huge asset. How it affected the countries and it showed how the bombing exploded. It also briefly shows the areas of where the explosions occurred. This video explains what Richard Nixon take was on the end of the war. Whether or not he thought the United States had the right to be involved or not, the war did not end how most people thought it would.
