Position purpose
The research fellow will work in the general area of wireless communications from the perspective of information theory, communications theory and signal processing. Particular areas of interest include cognitive radio, cooperative communications, massive MIMO and other technologies of relevance to the next generation of wireless networks. The research fellows will be expected to publish in the best outlets in the field including the IEEE Transactions (Information Theory, Communications, Wireless Communications, Signal Processing). They will also be expected to be actively involved in the supervision of research students. Reporting Line: The position reports to an academic supervisor nominated by the relevant Head of Department. Supervisory responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities associated with positions at this level. Financial delegation and/or budget responsibilities: Not applicable

The Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering aims to provide high quality programs in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering for undergraduate and research students as well as undertaking and publishing high quality research. Key result areas and responsibility


Research Conduct research under limited supervision either as a member of a team or, where appropriate, independently. Produce or contribute to conference and seminar papers and publications from the research; Limited administrative functions primarily connected with the area of research of the academic; Development of a limited amount of research-related material for teaching or other purposes with appropriate guidance from other staff; Occasional contributions to teaching in relation to his/her research project(s); Attendance at meetings associated with research or the work of the organisational unit to which the research is connected and/or at departmental and/or faculty meetings and/or membership of a limited number of committees; and Advice to postgraduate students within the field of the staff members research.

General Responsibilities Maintain involvement in professional activities, including, subject to availability of funds, attendance at conferences and seminars within the field. Administrative functions primarily connected with the research responsibilities and the supervision of students (honours and postgraduate).

Key selection criteria


Essential 1. Research doctorate in information theory, communications theory or signal processing or substantial progress towards the PhD degree. 2. Demonstrated ability conducting outstanding research and scholarship in an independent manner, and in association with other academic staff and students. 3. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, to enable effective interaction with students, academic and professional staff within the department and University. 4. Capability to maintain an internationally recognised publication record. 5. Experience with experimental design and operation of advanced laboratory and technical equipment. 6. Honest, hardworking and able to work as a professional member of a multidisciplinary team, including working with PhD/masters students; 7. Ability and passion to learn new techniques/skills that exist in this field; 8. Demonstrated research project management skills.
