Introduction to VNMAP 
1. History on the establishment of VNMAP
ƒ VNMAP was established in 2007 and started with a group of students
from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Johns
Hopkins School of Medicine
Medicine.
ƒ The first 2-weeks mission in June, 2007 with a team of 11 members,
we served the people at Dien Khanh Hospital in Khanh Hoa province.
ƒ After the 1st mission trip, the team leaders had decided to found the
Viet Nam Medical Assistance Program (VNMAP) to continue the
initial ggoals of the 1st mission.
ƒ Since then, we have accomplished 4 medical trips and established
different public health projects in Viet Nam

1 . Educational  Aspect of the Annual Medical Mission
Provide learning experience for students and health 
professionals
ƒ Have the opportunity to encounter people of different 
backgrounds
ƒ Have the chance to learn how to handle these situations and 
apply what they learn through the trip in their future practice

2 .  Public Health Research 

ƒ Focus on how lifestyle and living condition affect patient’s health
ƒ Through our  previous works, we learned that hypertension is 
very prevalent in Viet Nam.  Our goal in 2011 is to learn more

about the cause of hypertension and create a program to prevent 
hypertension and its complications.

United States
Through serving the local community for several years, 
we realized the needs of the Vietnamese community in

Maryland in health care.  Our goals are:
1. Provide more community outreach programs to educate  
the Vietnamese community in health prevention
2. Partner  with health professionals to  provide them tools 
to better serve the Vietnamese  community
3. Mentor  and train college and professional students to

help them pursue their career goals and practice 
leadership skills
