Palm Sunday
Our Lord Jesus Christs Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem is celebrated by the Holy Church on Palm Sunday. By the time of Christ, Jewish Nationalism had led to the expectation of a political Messiah to deliver them from Roman oppression and rule and to re-establish King Davids earthly Kingdom. In utter Humility, our Lord Jesus emphasised the fact that He had not come to establish an earthly Kingdom by not entering the great city of Jerusalem on a horse or in a chariot like other conquering heroes but instead He was seated on a humble, untrained young donkey a real sign of His Humility and Peace. (SEE THE
BOOK OF ZECHARIAH 9:9 LXX)

Christs Triumphal Entrance into the Holy City declared the Establishment of the Kingdom of Almighty God. It was also a Divine Promise of our Lord Jesus Christs final, Glorious Entrance into the Heavenly Jerusalem together with all Faithful Believers and of His accepting the New Jerusalem as His Pure Bride. (SEE THE REVELATION OF CHRIST THE APOCALYPSE 21:2)
THE ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN CHURCH THE NEW JERUSALEM - IS TRULY THE ALL PURE BRIDE OF CHRIST WHO IS THE DIVINE BRIDEGROOM

St Matthew recorded in his Holy Gospel that there was a colt as well as a donkey, which our Holy Church Fathers regarded as representing the Faithful Hebrews and the Gentiles who are brought together in the Kingdom of God. At Vespers of Palm Sunday we sing: Thy riding upon a foal prefigured how the untamed and uninstructed Gentiles would pass from unbelief to Faith. Those people who spread their clothes upon the ground before our Lord Jesus Christ, did so as a spontaneous gesture of reverence to a great King, which symbolises our own need to lay down our flesh and indeed, our very life for Christ. Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord! was a Divinely Inspired Prophecy of King David, which referred to the Messianic Expectation. [PSALM 117:25 26] It was recited daily for six days during the Feast of Tabernacles, and seven times on the Seventh Day of the Feast as branches were waved. Hosanna! means Save, we pray! At Vespers of Palm Sunday we sing: Keep the Feast with the children, and holding branches in your hands, sing Hosanna.... Many Liturgical Hymns of Palm Sunday emphasise the perfect Praises of the children, who were innocent, worthy, unashamed and compelled by their Pure Love of Christ - unlike the sinister and conniving adults who would contribute to a greater or lesser degree to His betrayal and unjust, illegal arrest, trial, torture and crucifixion. We are all Called to Glorify Christ in the same joyous and spontaneous spirit of unashamed and pure Love of God! In contrast, the adults Praises carried earthly expectations and hidden agendas which, when left unfulfilled, led them to rebel against our Lord Jesus Christ just a few days later!
AS USUAL, THE EVIL ONE ALWAYS USES OUR HUMAN WEAKNESSES AND SELFISH DESIRES AGAINST US AND AGAINST THE WILL THE GOD. IN THE CASE OF CHRIST OUR SAVIOUR, THE ENEMIES OF GOD USED THE EARTHLY DESIRES AND EXPECTATIONS OF THE PEOPLE AS AN EXCUSE FOR THEIR UNJUST AND UNLAWFUL PUNISHMENT AND EXECUTION OF CHRIST. HOWEVER, THE LORD OUR GOD, VOLUNTARILY SUBMITTED TO THEIR EVIL SCHEMES SO THAT HE COULD ENTER HADES, SMASH OPEN ITS GATES AND SET THE RIGHTEOUS FREE. FROM THAT MOMENT ONWARDS, THE RIGHTEOUS WOULD REPOSE IN PEACE IN PARADISE UNTIL JUDGEMENT DAY.

Come out, O People! Behold the King of Heaven on this day, as though on a lofty Throne, yet on a lowly colt, riding into Jerusalem. Judean generation, O faithless and adulterous, come and behold Him Whom Isaiah saw, Who for us is present in the Flesh. See how He weds Himself to the New Zion as One Chaste, and separates Himself from the censured assembly. As to a wedding untainted and undefiled, do undefiled children, unclaimed by evil, rush, acclaiming. With them singing praises, let us cry our the Angelic Hymn: Hosanna in the Highest to Thee, Who possesses Great Mercy! Him with tuneful cymbals; praise Him with loud cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Thy voluntary Passion, Thou proved in advance the General Resurrection, for the assurance of all, O Christ our God: by Thy Mighty Power, Thou Resurrected Lazaros who lay four days dead in Bethany. As the Bestower of Light, O Saviour, Thou granted sight to the blind. And with Thy Disciples Thou entered the Holy City seated upon a donkeys colt, as One mounted on the Cherubim, fulfilling proclamations of the Prophets. And the Children of the Hebrews went out to meet Thee with palm leaves and branches. We, therefore, likewise wave our olive branches and our palm leaves, and gratefully cry out to Thee: Hosanna in the Highest! Bless is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord!

At

that time, when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two Disciples, saying to them: Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loosen then and bring them to Me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say: The Lord has need of them, and immediately he will send them. this was done so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Prophet, saying: Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, Thy King is coming to you, lowly, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, a foal of a donkey. the Disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. very great multitude spread their clothes upon the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them upon the road. multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord! Hosanna in the Highest!
