Introduction
This document describes the use of HASP SRM software protection and licensing solutions with TEMS products. For information about HASP SRM from the supplier, see www.aladdin.com/hasp/srm.aspx.
HASP SRM is offered in two versions, one using hardware-based and one using software-based protection keys. They are called HASP SRM HL and HASP SRM SL respectively.
2.1
HASP SRM HL
In this version of HASP SRM, the license resides in a hardware key which is plugged into the PC.
2.2
HASP SRM SL
This solution uses a software-based protection key. Chapter 4 describes how HASP SRM SL is used with TEMS products.

3.1
The ordered number of HASP SRM HL hardware keys are delivered with your TEMS product. A damaged HASP SRM HL key will be replaced for a replacement charge upon receipt of the damaged key. There will be no replacement of a hardware key that has been lost, stolen, etc. In the latter case, a new software license must be purchased.
3.2
You must plug the HASP SRM HL hardware key into your PC to be able to launch and use your TEMS product. A variety of licensing models are available:
3.2.1
Perpetual License
3.2.2
Trial/Evaluation License
The TEMS application can be used until the trial or evaluation license expires.
3.2.3
Lease License
The TEMS application can be used until the lease license expires.
3.3
3.3.1
An update of the HASP key information is necessary when converting a trial or evaluation HASP key into a perpetual or lease HASP key (see section 3.2). An update is also necessary when upgrading a HASP key supporting an earlier version of your TEMS application to support a later version, or when adding new license options.
3.3.2
To modify the programming of HASP keys, the Remote Update System application is used.

3.3.2.1
1 Make sure you have installed your TEMS application software. 2 Plug your HASP key into the PC. 3 Navigate to the Application folder beneath the TEMS applications installation directory and run the file hasprus.exe. This dialog box opens:
4 Now collect the key information by clicking the Collect information button. 5 If you also have a HASP SRM SL (i.e. software-based) key installed on the machine, a dialog will appear at this point prompting you to choose which key to update. Select the HASP HL key.
6 A file with extension .c2v is created. Choose a suitable file name and save the file. This file will be used in section 3.3.2.2.

7 If you get an error message like the one below, you need to upgrade the HASP key firmware to enable SRM functionality. See section 3.4.
3.3.2.2
Contact customer support by e-mail, supplying the following information: 1 The HASP SRM HL *.c2v file obtained in section 3.3.2.1 2 The HASP key serial number (printed on the label that is stuck onto the HASP key) 3 The purchase order number of the upgrade. For support contact information, see chapter 5. 3.3.2.3 Updating Registration Information
From customer support you will receive a file with extension .v2c. Once you have this file, you can update your HASP key as follows: 1 Make sure that the HASP key is physically attached to your computer. 2 Navigate to the TEMS application folder and run the file hasprus.exe. The Remote Update System dialog opens. 3 Select the Apply License Update tab. 4 Browse to locate the .v2c file, and click the Apply update button. See the screenshot below.

1 The result of the operation will be displayed in the main window of the dialog. When you have successfully updated the HASP key, exit the Remote Update System application. 2 You can now start using your TEMS application with the updated key.
3.4
If you received an error message when trying to retrieve the information stored in the HASP key, that is because the HASP key firmware is old and does not support SRM. You then need to upgrade the firmware: 1 First make sure that only one HASP key is connected to the PC. 2 The HASP key should be plugged into the PC directly, not through a USB hub. 3 Go to the Application directory beneath the TEMS applications installation directory and run the file FirmwareUpdate.exe.

4 Click the Apply update button. The firmware will now be updated. Do not unplug the HASP key until notified that the update is complete.

4.1
You obtain a HASP SRM SL software key much in the same way as you update a HASP SRM key of any type. Compare section 3.3. 1 Make sure you have installed your TEMS application software. Note: The installation package must include a HASP driver that supports HASP SRM SL.1 2 Navigate to the Application folder beneath the TEMS applications installation directory and run the file hasprus.exe. The HASP SRM RUS dialog opens to the Collect Key Status Information tab. 3 Click the Collect information button. What this operation does in the SL case is to take a digital fingerprint of your hard drive, uniquely identifying the drive. 4 If you also have a HASP SRM HL hardware key plugged into the PC at this point, a dialog will appear prompting you to choose which key to update. Select the HASP SL key.
5 Just as for HASP SRM HL, a file with extension .c2v is created. Save this file. 6 E-mail the .c2v file to customer support. See contact information in chapter 5. 7 From customer support you will receive a file with extension .v2c. Once you have that file, navigate to the TEMS application folder and run the file hasprus.exe. The Remote Update System dialog opens. 8 Select the Apply License Update tab. 9 Browse to locate the .v2c file, and click the Apply update button.
TEMS products that come with such a driver include TEMS Investigation 10.1 and later.

10 The result of the operation will be displayed in the main window of the dialog. When you have successfully applied the HASP license, exit the Remote Update System application.
4.2
Once the HASP SRM SL key has been installed on the PC, you can launch and use the TEMS application freely (without any further authentication steps) as long as the license is valid. The same range of licensing models is offered as for HASP SRM HL. See section 3.2.
4.3
To update a HASP SRM SL key you perform the same steps as when first obtaining the key. See section 4.1.
