2. List and tell me about three successful people that you look up to. Why do you look up to them? List briefly what you consider to be their differentiators (skills that separate them from others)? Are they active on social media? If they are active on LinkedIn, Twitter, or blog, follow each of them. One of the people I look up to would be my mother. She is a Kindergarden teacher, and displays the most care and compassion for her kids that it impresses me. Another person I look up to would be my high school football coach. He had a way of getting through to every kid, no matter what kind of background they came from. Another person I look up to would be my Baseball coach in high school. He was a man of few words, but made the ones he said count. He was very respectful, and cared for anyone on the team. Note: These can be a combination of current/past supervisors, faculty members, organization sponsors, or famous business people. A. One of the people I look up to would be my mother. Go to LinkedIn or Twitter and search for two companies that you hope to work for one day. List the companies below and why you would like to work for them. Follow each of the companies using social media, especially LinkedIn. A. Monsanto- I think it would be a fun job for me to have, and love to work outside. I also would enjoy operating my own staff to accomplish a goal. B. Surgro- I would enjoy working here because I like to talk, and connect to people. I am good with communication. 4. Write down three soft skills that you possess. Be specific and tailor them to a market context. In other words, show how that skill is meaningful in an industry you might pursue. If you are having trouble identifying these, think of skills that people frequently compliment you on those may be your strengths.

BAD example: I excel at public speaking GOOD example: I excel at public speaking on topics such as time management. I am able to speak to both small and large groups successfully.

A. I excel at speaking to people one on one. I am able to connect with a person very fast, and get them interested in working with me. B. I excel at group managing. I am able to get people on the same page very quickly.

C. I excel at presentations. I am able to give presentations to a group in a fun and interactive way.

5. Ask two people who you look up to what they see as your greatest strengths. Write their responses below including their name and title/company they are employed by. If they had to come to you for help or advice on one topic, what would it be? List this below.

A. Lee- Ann Vanderpool. Kindergarten Teacher. Alexander Doniphan Elementary. My communications skills, and the way I handle stressful situations. She would come to me for advice on how to get a problem solved quickly.

B. Greg Reynolds. Football Coach. Park Hill High School. The way I handle leadership, and the way I handled being a captain of the team. He said he would come to me for advice on how to sweet talk a farmer on how to get on their land to hunt. 6. List three key uncertainties, doubts, or questions you have about your potential career at the present moment. A. One would be, I wonder if I can be make the grades to be a high candidate for the position. B. Also I wonder if I will be comfortable if my job takes me out of Missouri. C. I wonder if I have the patience to put up with other peoples complaints. 7. Make a plan to develop three additional transferable skills (skills that are broadly useful to potential other jobs). What are the three additional transferable skills you hope to obtain and how will you obtain them over the next year?

A. I would like to increase my GPA to above a 3.0. I have been studying harder each year and hope to get their before I graduate. B. I plan on getting an internship during the summer. I have applied to a few companies and am waiting to hear back. C. I will increase my knowledge on crop management. I plan on taking the class in the upcoming semester. 8. In the top section of the triangle, write down 10 words to describe you. From those 10, select the top 5 and write them in the middle section. From those 5, select one word you would use to describe yourself and write that in the bottom (smallest) section at the tip of the triangle.
