make MCBs finger - touch proof.
Neutral advance mechanism, i.e.
neutral contact opens last and
closes before phase contact,
which always ensures zero
potential before phase potential.
Padlocking facility in ON/OFF
position.

B characteristics are used primarily
for wiring protection in lighting, socket
outlet and control circuit.
C TYPE

current (e.g. motors and transformers).
D TYPE
Thermal operations are as per
IEC 898-1995. Magnetic operating
limit is 10 to 20 times rated

with D characteristics ensure that
even electrical equipment with
very high making current as
starting of heavy motors,
transformers, capacitor switching,
group of lights etc. do not lead to
undesired early tripping.

Neutral Advance Mechanism.
Operation even in case of neutral
failure i.e. it operates even if
leakage occurs when incoming /
outgoing neutral is snapped.
Tripping time within 30m.sec.*
Trip free mechanism - i.e. during
fault, resetting is impossible
and it trips internally, even if
held in ON position forcibly.
Operates on Core Balance
Current Trasformer principle.
Provides optimum protection.
10kA ELCBs have following
4 Back -- Index Page -- Next
provide excellent protection even at
earth resistance of 330 ohms (for
extra safe voltage 10 volts), a device
up to 100 mA sensitivity may be
chosen where earth resistance is not
likely to exceed 30 Ohms. The earth
resistance is of no consequence when
considering protection from direct
contact and as such only 30 mA
sensitivity device should be chosen for
protection against direct contact. The
value of 30 mA* has been arrived at
as the 'no alternative disconnection
current' where an overwhelming
majority of individuals are unable to
disassociate voluntarity from the live
conductor, and instant automatic
interruption of supply is necessary.
FIRES
Protection form fires due to earth
leakage is best obtained by using
ELCB+MCB of 300mA or 500mA
sensitivity. Where downstream
distribution has been done through
30mA/100mA ELCB+MCB, some
degree of time discrimination may
be necessary by selecting the fire
protection devices with a small
deliberate delay (about 250
milliseconds).
MCB (LOAD CURRENT RATING)
The rated load currents of the
ELCB+MCB combination are 6A,
10A, 16A, 20A, 25A, 32A, 40A and
63A. The bimetal trip is so
adjusted that no tripping will occur
upto 1.3 times the rated current.
BREAKING CAPACITY
The combination features a high
breaking capacity of 9 kA at 440 V. This

Motors and Pumps.
Operation theatres and electrically

STANDARDS
ELCB+MCB combination conforms
to international standards like VDE
0664, CEE 27, SS 97, IEC 898 BS
4293: 1983, IEC 1009 etc.
EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE
The calibration of the ELCB device
being in conformity with BS 4293:
1983, the sensitivity of the device
will be between 50% and 100% of
the rated sensitivity.
The sensitivity of the ELCB+MCB
combination will be within permissible
limits when used in the temperature
range of -5to 50Centigrade.
EARTH LEAKAGE
The selection of sensitivity for
protection from electrocution should
be co-ordinated to the type and
quality of system earthing. While the
maximum sensitivity of 30mA will

comprehensive protection against
overcurrent, short circuit, earth
leakage and earth fault. ELCB+MCB
is recommended to be used as
the main incoming circuit breaker
instead of conventional iron clad
main switches. Further, downstream
distribution with this combination will
also replace DP/TPN interruption
and switching devices. The high
breaking capacity of 9kA at 440
V allows safe, fuseless distribution.
Typical short circuit faults in real life
situation do not exceed 3000A for
loads of even 63A.
TECHNOLOGY
Technology for ELCB+MCB
combination is imparted by F & G ,
Germany.
FEATURES
All protections truly current operated
No nuisance tripping
Current limiting design
High breaking capacity

Operation even in case of
neutral failure i.e. it operates if
leakage occurs even when
incoming neutral is snapped

characteristics of B and C types
are available.
Trips at leakage current of
30mA within 30 ms
APPLICATIONS
The use of ELCB+MCB will ensure
total foolproof and reliable protection
from all hazards of low and medium
voltage electricity. The operation of
the device being independent of
extraneous parameters (like supply
voltage, temperature, humidity etc.)
it provides dependable protection
from all conceivable electrical faults
which may cause electrocution,
fires and result in destruction of
life and property and excessive
metering due to leakage.
It is recommended to use,
ELCB+MCB combination for:
Residential premises as
main incoming protection after
energy meter instead of fuses
and main switch.
