1.04 REFERENCES A. The referred codes and standards are intended to provide an acceptable level of quality for materials and products. In case of conflict between these standards and the text of this Specification, the Specification text shall govern. 1.05 DEFINITIONS A. B. 1.06 SUBMITTALS A. The Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission, under the provisions of SECTION 01330, the following items for review and approval before commencing Work: 1. Shop Drawings a) Before delivery, the Contractor shall submit Shop Drawings for the fabrication and installation of aluminum windows, and associated components of the work. The drawings shall include: 1) Wall elevations and detail sections of every typical composite member.

Show anchors, joint system, metal gauges, location of hardware, weatherstripping, expansion provisions and glazing details. Construction of all parts, metal thicknesses, installation and erection details including connections, anchorage, fasteners, and details of accessories.

Manufacturer's Literature a) b) Manufacturer's recommended Installation and Maintenance Procedures. The Contractor shall provide product data for each type window specified, including details of construction, materials, dimensions, hardware preparation, core, label compliance, sound and insulation ratings, profiles and finishes and manufacturers instructions.

Samples a) Before delivery, the Contractor shall submit: 1) Samples for initial selection purposes in form of manufacturers color charts showing full range of colors or patterns available for factory-finished windows. Two samples of corner assembly 450 x 450 mm of each type of windows showing joints, glazing frames and accessories, indicating full range of variation in finish. Samples of each required aluminum finish, on 300 mm-long extrusions or 150 mm square sheets, of the alloys to be used for the work. Where normal color and texture variations are to be expected, include 2 or more units in each sample, to show the range of such variations.

Test Reports a) The Contractor shall provide 2 copies of test reports of Source Quality Control tests.

Supplier Certificates a) The Contractor shall submit 2 copies of technical data showing that the proposed finish product is suitable for the environmental conditions of the worksite and that the windows and accessories meet specification requirements.

6.

Schedules and Programs a) The Contractor shall provide schedules and programs, specifying requirements for coordinating certain works which must be done in special sequence with, or at the same time as work in other Sections.

The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of work and shall develop and propose programs and methods of construction and testing such as to achieve the specified quality to the approval of the Royal Commission in accordance with SECTION 01450. Qualifications 1. Qualifications of Manufacturers a) Products used in the work of this Section shall be produced by manufacturers regularly engaged in manufacture of similar items and with a history of successful production acceptable to the Royal Commission.

Qualifications of Installers a) The Contractor shall use adequate number of skilled workmen who are thoroughly trained and experienced in the necessary crafts and who are completely familiar with the specified requirements and the methods needed for proper performance of work.

3.

Contractors site supervisor(s) shall have knowledge of referenced standards and at least 5 years of documented experience.

C.

Internal Quality Control 1. Contractors internal quality control shall include but not be limited to: a) Checking suppliers test certificates and certificates of compliance to conform to specification and referenced standards prior to assembly or installation. Checking suppliers delivery tickets of each delivery for completeness and compliance with supply order and specification.

Allowable Tolerances 1. Material Tolerances a) b) 2. Solid Extrusions: + 0.16 mm. Hollow Extrusions: + 0.25 mm.

The overall size tolerance shall be within + 1.6 mm for all dimensions up to 2 m and + 3.2 mm for all dimensions in excess of 2 m.

Source Quality Control 1. Air Infiltration Test a) When tested in accordance with ASTM E283, shall have a maximum infiltration of 0.0004 m3/sec/m crack length.

Wind Load Test a) The units when tested in accordance with ASTM E330, the test should be conducted at a load equivalent to the design pressure for a 107.6 km/h wind, to a positive and negative load for 10 seconds, shall have a maximum deformation of frame or sash member 0.4% span length with no damage to fasteners or hardware.

Water Penetration Test a) Window units when tested in accordance with ASTM E331 shall have no water penetration for 15 minutes when the exterior surface of window is exposed to uniform water spray. The minimum rate of flow shall be not less than 3.4 L/min/m2 with a differential pressure across window unit of 0.30 kPa.

Forced Entry Resistance a) Conform to ASTM F588 requirements for performance.

Design members to withstand, within acceptable deflection limitations, their own weight, weight of glass and the minimum design loads due to the pressure and suction of wind as calculated in accordance with AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S.2. Air and Vapor Seal a) Maintain continuous air barrier and vapor retarder throughout assembly.

System Internal Drainage a) Drain to the exterior by means of a weep drainage network any water entering joints, condensation occurring in glazing channel, or migrating moisture occurring within system.

Testing Agency a) Independent testing laboratory acceptable to the Royal Commission shall be utilized for performing the tests as specified in pars. 1.07 E.1, 2 and 3.

All operable windows shall be designed so that the exterior glazed surfaces can be readily cleaned from the inside. Sliding windows shall be designed so that an accumulation of dust and sand does not impair operation and the tracks can be easily cleaned.

Window components shall provide for expansion and contraction caused by a cycling temperature range of 100C without causing detrimental effects to components. All operable windows shall be equipped with rust proof insect screens, removable from the inside.

1.08 HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS A. All works undertaken in relation to this Specification are to be completed in full accordance with the respective health and safety requirements established by the following: 1. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia a) 2. Legislation, Regulation, Standards and Codes.

Royal Commission Regulations: a) Standards, Contractual Conditions, and Health and Safety Systems.

3.

Contractor a) Health and Safety Standards and Systems as accepted by the Royal Commission.

B.

In the absence of any of the above, best accepted industry practice shall be employed throughout.

1.09 JOB CONDITIONS A. Field Measurements 1. The Contractor shall verify dimensions by field measurements before fabrication and indicate on Shop Drawings and coordinate fabrication with project schedule to avoid delays in the work.

B.

Environmental Limitations 1. The Contractor shall not begin installation of interior aluminum components until space has been enclosed and ambient thermal conditions are being maintained at levels consistent with final project requirements.

1.10 SEQUENCING A. The Contractor shall ensure that jamb anchors are available to installers of other Sections in time for building-in the window frames.

1.11 WARRANTY A. B. Refer to SECTION 01780 for additional warranty requirements. The Contractor shall provide manufacturer's written warranty stating: 1. 2. Frames will be free of defects for the life of the installation under normal use. Defect arising within 10-year period after date of substantial completion shall be rectified. 10-year warranty against failure of glass seal on insulating glass units, including inter pane dusting or misting. Include provision for replacement of failed units. 10-year warranty against excessive degradation of exterior finish. Include provision for replacement of units with excessive fading, chalking, or flaking.

The Contractor shall submit for the Royal Commissions acceptance the Manufacturer's Standard Warranty Document executed by authorized company official. The manufacturer's warranty is in addition to, and not a limitation of, other rights the Royal Commission may have under the Contract Documents. The Contractor shall adhere to manufacturer's requirements to avoid voiding warranty.

D.

1.12 DELIVERY, HANDLING AND STORAGE A. The Contractor shall deliver, handle and store equipment and material units in accordance with SECTIONS 01650 and 01660, as well as the following requirements: 1. General a) 2. Comply with requirements of AAMA CW-10.

Ordering a) Comply with manufacturers ordering instructions and lead time requirements to avoid construction delays.

Packing a) Protective Covering 1) 2) 3) Aluminum surfaces shall receive a protective covering at the factory. Covering shall be readily removable without affecting the finish. Covering shall be either adhesive paper, or waterproof tape, or strippable plastic.

Windows shall be individually wrapped or crated to avoid aluminum to aluminum contact during shipping and shall be protected from weather and damage. The Contractor shall deliver windows cardboard-wrapped or crated to provide protection during transit and job storage. Provide additional protection to prevent damage to finish of factoryfinished doors and frames. The Contractor shall protect windows from damage while handling, due to harsh weather and construction operations before, during and after installation.

Acceptance at Site a) Upon delivery, the Contractor shall inspect aluminum windows and all other materials for damage and notify shipper and supplier if damage is found. Minor damages may be repaired provided finish items are equal in all respects to new work and acceptable to the Royal Commission; otherwise, remove and replace damaged items as directed. Damaged items that can not be repaired shall be removed and replaced.

Storage and Protection a) System components and windows at building site shall be under cover. The Contractor shall: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Place units on minimum 100 mm high wood blocking. Avoid use of non-vented plastic or canvas shelters which could create humidity chamber. If cardboard wrapper becomes wet during transport, remove carton immediately. Provide minimum 50 mm spaces between stacked elements to promote air circulation. Store windows in vertical position above ground and in a dry designated area as close as possible to point of installation

PART 2

PRODUCTS

2.01 GENERAL A. All goods and products covered by these Specifications shall be procured, when available, from an in-Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods and products manufactured out-of-Kingdom must be approved by the Royal Commission. All aluminum windows shall be furnished by a manufacturer, regularly engaged in the manufacture of aluminum windows. Windows shall be of the type and size indicated on the Drawings. Each unit shall include subframe, frame, weather stripping, applicable hardware, anchors. All units shall be assembled at the factory and shall be suitable for receiving single or double glazing as indicated on the Window Schedule. Glass shall be factory installed. All frames shall be carefully machined and fit to hairline joinery, mechanically fastened in such a manner as to develop the strength of the joined members or heliarc welded on the unexposed surfaces. Watertight joints shall be provided at all corners. All materials screws, fasteners, and accessories shall be non-corrosive compatible with aluminum.

2.02 MATERIAL A. Aluminum alloy and temper shall be as recommended by manufacturer for type of use and finish indicated, complying with the requirements of standards indicated below. 1. Sheet and Plate a) 2. ASTM B209M, alloy 5005-H14, stretcher leveled.

Extruded Bars, Rods, Shapes, and Tubes a) ASTM B221M, alloy 6063-T5 or alloy 6463-T5.

Glass shall be as specified in SECTION 08810. Sealants and joint fillers for joints at perimeter of doors, windows and frames shall be as specified in SECTION 07920. Sealant types and colors shall require the Royal Commissions approval.

2.03 COMPONENTS A. Main frame and sash members shall have a nominal thickness of not less than 3.2 mm. Minimum thickness of glazing beads shall be 1.3 mm. Following exception for residential facilities shall be acceptable: 1. All Horizontal Sliding Windows a) Main frames and sash members shall have a nominal thickness of not less than 1.6 mm. Frame sill members shall have a nominal thickness of not less than 2.4 mm.

All Fixed/Hung Windows up to a maximum size of 800 mm wide x 1200 mm high - main frames and sash members shall have a nominal thickness of not less than 1.6mm.

Awning Windows 1. Awning windows shall conform to specification AAMA 101/I.S.2 A-A2. Hardware for top ventilators shall be designed to drop sash down in a manner that will permit cleaning of the outside glass from inside building. All operating hardware except ventilator arms and rotary operators shall be concealed within frame and sill. Ventilator arms shall be concealed when unit is closed.

Casement Windows 1. Casement windows shall conform to specification AAMANWWDA 101/I.S.2 (CA2) (C-A3). Each side hinge ventilator shall have non-friction type extension hinges, under screen rotary operator and locking handles. Rotary operators shall be heavy-duty worm gear type with machine cut case hardened steel gears.

Double-hung and Single-hung Windows 1. Double-hung and Single-hung windows shall conform to specification AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S.2 (DH-A2) (DH-A3).

2.04 FABRICATION A. B. Fabrication of window units shall conform to AAMA 302.9. Fabricate windows allowing for minimum clearances and shim spacing around perimeter of assembly, yet enabling installation. The Contractor shall: 1. Fabricate components with smallest possible clearances and shim spacing around perimeter of assembly that will enable window installation and dynamic movement of perimeter seal. Accurately fit and secure joints and corners. Make joints flush, hairline, and weatherproof. Prepare components to receive anchor devices. Arrange fasteners and attachments to ensure concealment from view. Prepare components with internal reinforcement for operating hardware. Provide steel internal reinforcement in mullions as required to meet loading requirements. Provide internal drainage of glazing spaces to exterior through weep holes. 2.05 PROTECTION OF ALUMINUM A. The Contractor shall isolate aluminum from contact with dissimilar metals other than stainless steel, white bronze, or zinc by any of the following: 1. Coat the dissimilar metal with 2 coats of heavy-bodied alkali resistant bituminous paint. Place caulking compound, or non-absorptive tape, or gasket between the aluminum and the dissimilar metal. Paint aluminum in contact with mortar, concrete and plaster, with a coat of aluminum paint primer.

2.07 HARDWARE A. Horizontal sliding windows shall be provided with a heavy duty finger touch spring loaded positive lock latch. The sliding panel shall be equipped with wheel bearing, sintered iolite bronze wheel on a stainless shaft, in heavy walled nylon housing. Rollers shall be adjustable. Other types of windows shall be provided with appropriate hardware such as sweep locks and keepers, hinges, pawl handles, cam handle and strike and pivots. All hardware shall be designed for the function of the window, and provide a positive closure. Hardware shall be aluminum, stainless steel or white bronze as specified. Hardware shall be attached with corrosion-resistant fasteners. Hardware shall be accessible for adjustment and replacement from inside the building without damage to windows

2.09 INSECT SCREENS A. Insect screens shall consist of aluminum frame with screen cloth of aluminum or fiber glass wire of minimum 0.2 mm thickness. Hinged Window 1. Splines for holding mesh in place shall be removable to permit re-screening. Screen frames shall be fixed to window frames from the inside.

PART 3

EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION A. General Examination 1. The Contractor shall examine existing conditions for compliance with schedules and for completeness of other trades supposed to be finished before starting of door installation.

B.

The Contractor shall assure that window openings conform to dimensions and tolerances shown on the Contract Drawings. The Contractor shall verify that window openings are plumb, square, and ready for installation of aluminum window. Unsatisfactory conditions shall be corrected by the Contractor prior to installation.

3.02 GENERAL PREPARATION A. The Contractor shall examine windows prior to installation. Minor damages may be repaired on site provided refinished items are equal in all respects to new work and acceptable to the Royal Commission otherwise replace damaged items as directed. The Contractor shall verify that windows comply with the requirements in schedules for type, size, location and swing characteristic.

B.

3.03 INSTALLATION A. The Contractor shall: 1. Install windows and accessories in accordance with final Shop Drawings, manufacturers data and as herein specified. Window frames may be installed prior to, or after wall construction, depending on the standard they are produced to or the location of installation. Comply with manufacturer's instructions for installation of units. Set units plumb, level, and true to line, without warp or rack of frames, windows, or panels. Anchor securely in place. Anchor frames solidly to surrounding construction to prevent distortion or misalignment. Install sill and sill end angles. Coordinate attachment and seal of perimeter air barrier and vapor retarder materials. Install operating hardware not pre-installed by manufacturer. Provide thermal isolation where components penetrate or disrupt building insulation. Pack fibrous insulation in shim spaces at perimeter of assembly to

maintain continuity of thermal barrier. 8. Install perimeter sealant and related backing materials in accordance with SECTION 07920. Mark glazed openings during construction. Anchor aluminum windows to adjoining construction at heads, jambs and bottom and to steel supports, and bracing. Anchor frames with stainless steel or aluminum countersunk flathead, expansion bolts or machine screws, as applicable. Use aluminum clips for internal connections of adjoining frame sections. Where work is installed within masonry or concrete openings, place no parts other than built-in anchors and provision for operating devices located in the floor, until after the masonry or concrete work is completed.

Aluminum to Dissimilar Metals 1. The Contractor shall use one or a combination of the following methods to keep aluminum surfaces from direct contact with incompatible metals: a) Painting the dissimilar metals with 1 coat of heavy-bodied bituminous paint. Applying a good quality caulking material between the aluminum and the dissimilar metal. Painting the dissimilar metal with a prime coat of zinc chromate primer, or other suitable primer, followed by 1 coat of aluminum paint or other suitable protective coating, excluding those containing lead pigmentation. Use of a non-absorptive tape or gasket in permanently dry locations. Drainage from Dissimilar Metals 1) Paint dissimilar metals used in locations where drainage from them passes over aluminum as specified in par. 3.03 F 1.C, to prevent staining of aluminum.

Aluminum to Masonry and Concrete 1) Give aluminum surfaces in contact with mortar, concrete or other masonry materials 1 coat of heavy-bodied bituminous paint.

Aluminum to Wood 1) Give aluminum surfaces in contact with wood or other similarly absorptive materials, which may become repeatedly wet, and aluminum surfaces in contact with treated wood, 2 coats of aluminum paint or 1 coat of heavy-bodied bituminous paint. In lieu of painting the aluminum, the Contractor shall have the option of painting the wood and other absorptive surfaces with 2 coats of aluminum paint, and sealing the joints with caulking compound.

3.04 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. The Contractor shall test installed windows for compliance with performance requirements for water penetration, in accordance with ASTM E1105 using uniform pressure and the same pressure difference as specified for laboratory testing. The Contractor shall: 1. 2. 3. B. Test one window of each type, as directed by the Royal Commission. Test 5% of installed windows. If any window fails, test additional windows at own expense.

The Contractor shall replace windows that have failed field testing and retest until performance is satisfactory.

3.05 ALLOWABLE INSTALLATION TOLERANCES A. The Contractor shall install work plumb and true, in alignment and in relation to lines and grades shown. Variation of 1.5 mm in 1 m non-accumulative, or 3 mm, is maximum permissible for plumb, level, warp, bow and alignment.

3.06 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING A. The Contractor shall: 1. 2. 3. Adjust movable units to operate smoothly and to be weather tight when closed. Adjust windows for free operation without binding, rack, or warp. Lubricate hardware where required and recommended by the manufacturer to provide free and smooth operation. Upon completion of installation, the Contractor shall thoroughly clean window surfaces in accordance with AAMA 609. Not use abrasive, caustic, or acid cleaning agents. Clean glass and aluminum surfaces and remove excess sealants by moderate use of mineral spirits or other solvent acceptable to sealant and window manufacturer. Remove debris from work site. Leave window units in closed position to protect against sand, dust and elements. Clean, touch-up, repair or replace damaged products after Substantial Completion. immediately. 11. Remove all mastic smears and other unsightly marks, and repair any damaged or disfiguration of the work. Protect the installed work against damage or abuse.

3.07 PROTECTION A. Protection and other precautions required through the remainder of the construction period shall be initiated and maintained to ensure that, except for normal weathering, doors, windows and frames will be free of damage at the time of project completion. All protective wrappings of aluminum doors, windows and frames shall only be removed just prior to final inspection.
