Tishomingo County Announces Amnesty Program


Citizens Urged to Pay Old Fines and Avoid Arrest
IUKA, Mississippi - In an effort to clear a backlog of old nes and warrants that are owed to Tishomingo County and the various municipalities within the county, the Tishomingo County Justice Court in cooperation with the municipal courts of Belmont, Burnsville, Golden, Iuka, and Tishomingo will be offering an Amnesty Program during the month of March. !

For Immediate Release! February 27, 2014!

This Amnesty Program will pertain to OLD FINES ONLY. The purpose of this program is to provide relief to individuals who may have found themselves in violation of a court ordered obligation because they were nancially unable to pay nes. This program will also allow ofcers to focus on recent cases and allow individuals to avoid further penalties and possible incarceration.!

! Program Details:! !

The amnesty period will run from March 1, 2014 through March 31, 2014.! It will cover any old ne balances that have been previously set by the court or any old
nes remaining prior to March 1, 2014.! Anyone with outstanding nes can come in and resume payments or schedule a new payment plan.! Anyone taking advantage of this program will have arrest warrants for "failure to pay" rescinded.! Individuals who voluntarily appear at the Tishomingo County Justice Court to address delinquent nes or warrants for "failure to pay" will not be arrested.!

It is very important to remember that under this program there are two qualifying factors for amnesty. !

Individuals must have court ordered obligations that were incurred prior to March 1,
2014.! Individuals must come in voluntarily. !

The judges and court administrators have agreed that this Amnesty Program will allow people who have fallen behind on their payments or who have failed to pay as previously agreed to by court order to make good on their payments and NOT be subject to being held in contempt of court for nonpayment.!

This is a limited and unique opportunity offered by the county and the municipalities within the county. Sheriff Glenn Whitlock would like to encourage those with outstanding nes and warrants for "failure to pay" to take advantage of this opportunity. Even with the Amnesty program in place, the Tishomingo County Sheriff's Ofce and the ofcers with the respective police departments in the county will continue to aggressively serve warrants for outstanding nes. It is in the best interest of those with warrants for unpaid nes to come in voluntarily.!

Sheriff Whitlock states, "We are going to do our best to work with you, but you must come in and see us during the month of March".! All nes can be paid Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 5 PM. Individuals may pay with cash or money orders.! Any individual wishing to see if they have an outstanding warrant in Tishomingo County may do so by calling the Tishomingo County Justice Court at 662-423-7033.! If you believe you may have outstanding nes or warrants in the municipalities of Belmont, Burnsville, Golden, Iuka, or Tishomingo you can contact the respective courts at the following numbers:! The City of Corinth and Alcorn County will also be participating in their own amnesty programs. If you have outstanding warrants in either of those two jurisdictions you may call the following numbers:! City of Corinth: 662-286-2236! Alcorn County: 662-286-7776!
