What does an Intelligent Infrastructure Solution do?

An intelligent infrastructure solution uses g hardware and software to p provide intelligent

Detection of copper and fibre cords Real time updates of the infrastructure database Discovery of network connectivity from end to end Physical location and tracking for networked devices Alarms for unauthorised and/or unscheduled activities Event notifications to automatically advance process flow Automation of change & incident management processes

Configuration Management with Networked Device Discovery

Because an intelligent infrastructure tracks devices, including IP phones, as their connectivity changes, it always has an up to-date view of their exact physical location.

An employee was having a medical emergency late one evening and called 911 (112). The call was bridged to a corporate security officer along with the 911 (112) operator. On the corporate security officers IP phone, p , information related to the caller was immediately displayed, including the callers name and extension. By integrating with an Intelligent Infrastructure, the system was also able to display the exact physical location of the caller, including the building address, floor number, office number even down to the jack number on the wall.

The corporate security officer was able to pull up the building floor plan, determine the quickest way to reach the employee d relay l that th t information i f ti and to incoming emergency response personnel.

Enterprises te p ses must ust be prepared to handle emergencies effectively. However, millions go to work each day without the same level of protection they get at home for emergency response.

Intelligent Incident Management with Technician Guidance

By deploying an Intelligent Infrastructure, one college was able to reduce by 30% the time it took to troubleshoot network outages because they could monitor network connectivity in realtime, seeing any changes as they occurred and being informed if any of them were unplanned With electronic work orders, they were able to reduce by 60% the time it took to do moves, adds and changesensuring they were done right the first time, every time They could also get teaching assistants to make the changes, reducing the need to send out expensive IT personnel

Change Management with Intelligent Service Provisioning

Select location
Select outlet or device for new service

Select service
Select service to be provided e.g. LAN, Voice, etc.

Schedule service
Available service port selected, connectivity path determined, electronic work orders issued

Automatic confirmation
Correct service activation detected, service tickets closed

Change Management with Intelligent Service Provisioning

Passive Infrastructure
Changes require review of available connectivity paths Device D i l location ti manually ll reconciled il d and d maintained i t i d

Intelligent Infrastructure
Intelligent service provisioning removes the need to manually select connectivity paths Service provisioning enables integration with Service Management and Workflow applications, without detailed knowledge of connectivity requirements Device discovery enables automatic change confirmation

Change Management with Intelligent Service Provisioning

By deploying Intelligent Service Provisioning and electronic work orders, a Utility company was able to
Integrate cabling work orders into their workflow application Reduce the planning time required for moves, adds and changes (MACs) by over 60% Eliminate MAC connectivity errors Reduce the number of on-site technicians required by 50%

They were also able to utilise a PDA Client to:

Browse or search for connectivity information by jack jack, port port, rack rack, IP address or MAC address, and schedule service provisioning Trace connections Monitor events Monitor M it job j b status t t Access web-based reports

Change Management with Intelligent Server Deployment

Select server template

Template includes size, power, weight, ports, required services

Select Rack/Cabinet
Selection based on available rack units units, power power, maximum load
