Environment Protection Environmental modification is as old as the history of human development.

In the last century, development and modification have come much faster then ever before. While it took a few thousand years for man to pass from Paleolithic to Neolithic tools, it has taken less than a century to modify conventional weaponry to nuclear devices. Development has been so rapid that nature has not had time to adapt to these changes and to human re uirement and greed. !he last century has seen an unmanageable increase in population, placing a tremendous burden on natural resources. !here is not enough food for the world"s hungry. #lso, the earth itself is worn out due to e$cessive farming, use of chemicals and pesticides and e$cessive use of ground water. !o combat these problems, world bodies like the %nited Nations and the World &ommission on Environment and Development have been formulating ideas for environmental protection and sustainable development. !here is a vast scientific proof that man2made chemicals are destroying the o1one layer 22 Nobel pri1es have already been awarded for the research. ,ush 3imbaugh argues that humans are safe, because volcanic chlorine has been working on the o1one layer longer than man2made chlorine, and yet we4re still here. 5ut this argument is false. 6olcanic chlorine is water soluble, and rained harmlessly out of the atmosphere. 7uman &8&s are insoluble, and can therefore rise to the o1one layer where they can do their damage. Preserving 0ur Environment <any people assume that the environment is in no danger. !hey believe that with advancing technology, we don4t need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new ways to produce energy. !hey argue that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In actuality, each individual4s

contribution greatly affects our environment. 0ur natural resources are running low, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin. ,ecycling is so important in the effort to preserve our environment for future generations.
