Dorina Taranovici's Dyslexia Symptom Report 21 March 2014

Thank you for taking the time to complete the Dore Dyslexia Symptom Assessment. From the answers given in this assessment we have calculated the probability of you having symptoms associated with dyslexia. You show a MODERATE probability of having a dyslexic problem. This is not a formal diagnosis of dyslexia, but a quick assessment. It has been developed from our extensive experience of working with thousands of people with similar symptoms. The good news is that you can do something about these symptoms whether you have already been diagnosed or not. At Dore we do not require any formal diagnosis, because we dont just treat the condition or label like dyslexia, but help people overcome the root cause of their difficulties. Overlapping symptoms Conditions like dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and Aspergers syndrome share many of the same symptoms. So a diagnosis in one of these areas will often miss many of these other associated symptoms which you may be struggling with. Dore has developed a unique personalised exercise Programme that tackles the root cause of these learning difficulties in a way that treats the individuals symptoms not just the label. If you would like to discuss the findings in this report with us please call one of our team members on 0333 123 0100. Our office is open from 8am until 6pm Monday to Friday. Of course this quick assessment is by no means a formal diagnosis, so please dont consider it as such.

Your Symptom Indicator This report shows exactly where your specific difficulties are and how the Dore Programme can help in these areas. We have looked at your results from the Dyslexia Symptom Checker and this shows specific difficulties in the following areas: Word Reading You show difficulty in reading and decoding words. Most programmes used to improve reading focus only on developing decoding skills to allow individual words to be read. Research of participants who have completed the Dore Programme has shown improvements in their word reading skills. These research results are independent of whether or not the participant was receiving reading support. We recommend that to maximise improvements participants should practice reading throughout their time on the Programme and use reading support where possible. Comprehension You show difficulty in understanding what is being read. This is a major problem for children and adults with reading difficulties. There is little evidence that improving single word reading will improve comprehension ability. This is why people with word reading difficulties have to read and re-read text several times to understand the meaning. Participants on the Dore Programme have seen significant improvements in comprehension. This suggests that memory of what is being read is being retained for longer to allow better comprehension of what is read. Dore participants start to catch up with their peers. Fluency You show difficulty with speed and accuracy of reading. This is an area that causes real problems for children and adults with reading difficulties. It is a measure of how fluent word reading is. This will involve the ability to read single words quickly and

automatically and the ability to scan words with the eyes from one to the other. It is very difficult to improve fluency even with the most intensive reading interventions, yet it is this skill that defines good readers from poor readers. Research has shown that Dore clients see significant improvements in fluency (rapid naming skills and verbal fluency skills) far beyond their predicted rate of progress. Spelling You show difficulty with spelling skills. Spelling is one of the most difficult skills to master when there are difficulties with automating word reading skills. Spelling requires visual memory skills to be working well so that word forms can be memorised. Research has shown that Dore participants make important progress in spelling ability while using the Dore Programme. Writing You show difficulty with writing. This is an area that can cause significant problems for people with dyslexic type difficulties. Often people will know what they want to write, but when they try to actually write it down they struggle to put those thoughts on to paper. This is why people with writing dyslexic difficulties often produce very little written work or work that is unstructured or difficult to read and understand. In addition if there are also poor motor skills handwriting can also be very messy, especially if writing under speed conditions. Dore participants have seen improvements in both quantity and quality of writing. This suggests that the ability to structure ideas on to paper and control of writing skills are more automatic. Memory You have problems in remembering. The ability to remember and recall information is extremely important. Whether it be remembering everything you need to take to work; remembering what you have learnt at school; or

remembering instructions you have been given. Difficulty with short term or working memory can seriously inhibit an individual's progress in all aspects of life. Dore participants have reported improvements in both short term and working memory during the programme. Organisational skills You have difficulty when organising. Poor organisation is an area that can cause real difficulties for adults and children. Losing or forgetting things, getting lost and turning up late to appointments, or struggling to organise work or other activities are all signs of poor organisation skills. It is probably related to poor memory and learning skills. What causes Dyslexia? Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that causes problems with learning language-based skills.
