Brochure
Description: I created a two-sided (duplex), folding brochure Date: March 29, 2014 Course/Instructor: Comm 140-03, Brother Kerr

Programs/Tools: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

Objectives: Create a professional brochure with all necessary design elements and within the structure of the instructions.

Process: I first made my design layout which was the duplex fold, in Adobe InDesign. Once I had that set up with proper 0.25 margins, I then went to Adobe Illustrator to design my logo. I had seen a business card with a caligraphic fork and knife and decided to do something like that, but with straighter edges. I only used the line and curved lines in order to create my fork and knife. Then I placed the two inside a plate which was two circles with complimentary colors (red and green). I used circles throughout my brochure to be consistent with my plate logo, and tried to have a good flow so the eye could follow the circles that had images placed inside them. I placed a textured picture behind the front and on the inside of the brochure and made sure to put it behind the text and logo. I then took my back side picture of the brochure and added a transparency to it and placed it underneath my side flaps text, and underneath another transparent layer of green to tie in the colors. I played around with the two pictures in Photoshop to get to desired color that I wanted.

Montage
Description: A montage of 3 different photos, with an included quote on discovery. Date: February 15, 2014 Course/Instructor: Comm 140-03, Brother Kerr

Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop

Objectives: My objective was to create a well-blended montage that is inspirational, visually appealing, and adventerous. My message is to convey that not only is beauty in the eye of the beholder but that travel is the same way, we must view places with a new set of eyes in order to gain perspective.

Process: I started out with my background image of the desert, didnt actually do any editing to it since it was the way i wanted it. Then I overlayed the cityscape and masked it to fade it into the back mountains. I then added the silhouette and put a filter (rough pastels) on him. I used differing opacity strengths throughout my three images to blend perfectly. I used the same font for quote and author for consistency. I

Logos
Description: Design 3 creative logos in vector for Atlantic Records. Date: February 22, 2014 Course/Instructor: Comm 140-03, Brother Kerr

Programs/Tools: Adobe InDesign

Objectives: I wanted to create varied music-related Logos that would capture three different audiences. Ive got the record which gives off a more mature vibe, the professional looking AR Logo, and then the keyboard which appeals to a younger audience. Process: Using Adobe InDesign I used the ellipses tool, round edge rectangle, and rectangle tool to create shapes and borders for my Logos. I added in some highlights by cutting a circle for the Record Logo. Using the pathfinder tool I was able to create the keyboard with its curves and edges and notes. I created the AR logo type myself with the straight line and the curved line, hoping to create a treble cleflike R. I then added in some color.

Imaging
Description: Developed basic photography, sizing, editing/imaging, and photoshop skills into an original poster. Date: February 22, 2014 Course/Instructor: Comm 140-03, Brother Kerr

Programs/Tools: I personally photographed this picture at the Sundance Ski Resort. I then used Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign.

Objectives: I aimed to appeal to the snow-sport advendurers in order to persuade them to skiing or snowboarding Sundance.

Process: I took this photo on a personal camera at Sundance Ski Resort. I tried to grab the vibrance of the sun as it ementated through the woods in the background. I edited this photo in Adobe Photoshop to give it an almost sepia tone to the sun, and a more shadowy effect. I toned down the blue sky to an almost navy-like color. I wanted a warm and inviting feel to the snowy picture rather than cold and distant. I then created three elipses in Adobe InDesign and overlayed Ski Sundance. I faded out the bottom three circles that describe the color scheme.

Business Card
Description: Using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, I created cohesive business card. Date: March 1, 2014 Course/Instructor: Comm 140-03, Brother Kerr

Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator and InDesign

Objectives: The message of the business card is to appeal to crafters and bloggers, specifically those involved in sewing and fashion construction. The thread logo appeals to the every-day sewer while the name ties in the logo to the crafting part of it. Process: I created my logo in Illustrator using varied shapes and tools such as the pathfinder to incorporate and unify my creations. I used a trendy font that pulls the logo together with the thread-like logo. I copy and pasted my textboxes into the InDesign sheet after pasting my logo thread. I dappled with the alignment and spacing a bit until I captured the look I wanted. On the second page is my business card. I first created boxes that were to sizing standards for the project, then created the cohesive color as in my thread logo. I then pasted my font and grabbed my thread from the matching letterhead for cohesion.

Objectives: The message of the letterhead is to appeal to crafters and bloggers, specifically those involved in sewing and fashion construction. The thread logo appeals to the common sewing connoisseur.

Process: I created my logo and stationary header in Illustrator using varied shapes and tools such as the pathfinder to incorporate and unify my creations. I used the swirl tool to make a thread-like border. I used trendy font that pulls the logo together. Once i was done i placed everything into InDesign. I set borders of 0.5 to assure correct spacing and for printing reasons. I copy and pasted my textboxes into the InDesign sheet after pasting my logo and letterhead thread. I dappled with the alignment and spacing a bit until I captured the look I wanted. My contact information is 10 point font.

Webpage
Description: A web page designed to showcase a personally designed logo, html, and css skills. Date: March 15, 2014 Course/Instructor: Comm 140-03, Brother Kerr

Programs/Tools: TextWangler, CSS, HTML

Objectives: I wanted this to represent my personal website, so by creating a personal monogrammed logo, I aimed to relate to the visually-focused person.

Process: I created this web page using TextWrangler and Notepad, depending on what type of computer I was on. Having done HTML/CSS before, this was a fun project to get to develop those skills on. There were many things I didnt know you could do and I enjoyed playing with all the possabilities of headings, spacing, indents, placements, colors, etc. I created my logo in Illustrator/InDesign, and then did final edits in Photoshop. Once I finished my logo, I created the HTML and CSS, linked the two together, and put in my logo and background image. I made final edits playing with font colors and sizes, and centered my logo and title on the page.

Event Ad
Description: A multi-color event ad to promote the River walk 5k using a scanned image from the Ensign, and Microsoft Word. Date: February 1, 2014 Course/Instructor: Comm 140-03, Brother Kerr

Programs/Tools: Microsoft Word

Objectives: I am promoting the Naperville 5k Riverwalk in order to gather funds for the preservation of the riverwalk and its natural environment. I created a family friendly and fairly neutral flyer to attract all ages and groups of people. Process: Using Microsoft Word upon scanning my image in, I placed it on the ad with a leading banner stating the event. Using the color finder, I used 3 colors within the scanned image to tie in some vibrancy and make the image cohesive with the rest of the ad. I liked the use of a single font since it is so easy and clean to view/read. I filled awkward white-space with race-like stripes which allowed to tie in the title color very well.

Flier
Description: Black and white flier for Vouant Communications, marketing a Graduate Leadership Conference. Date: January 25, 2014 Course/Instructor: Comm 140-03, Brother Kerr

Programs/Tools: Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word

Objectives: My flier is meant to appeal to all ages, but geared more towards the mature or professional student/ graduate, to promote the Graduate Leadership Conference.

Process: After looking at the flier information and logo, I drew 4 possible sketches as a map to build off of once in InDesign. I created multiple separate text boxes, filled in with individual text captions, and added an appealing and eye-catching picture. I focused on my header by having a bold Oldstyle font, paired with eye-pleasing dotted line. Around the header I added a fancy border to reiterate the importance of the name and purpose of the conference. I bolded the question to appeal to the passer bys eye. I emphasized the place, date, and time by adding a cohesive border (same as the top border). I left a breath of white space for visual air.
