I wanted to create a unique resume To start with, I drew a guideline down the middle of the document and so I can stand out for future job skewed it to the left. I first created opportunities. a text box and added my name in a blocky, bold text. I added and shortened pre-existing resume text April 4, 2014 from my previous resume, and slanted it to the left of the line. I then added personal information and placed it Visual Media, Joel Judkins under the name. Finally, I generated a QR code for my online blog and placed it in the corner. While it took longer Although this was not an official than expected, it accomplished my assignment, I wanted to create a goals. clean but unique resume layout.

Course/Instructor
Visual Media, Joel Judkins

Objective

We were asked to create a duplex brochure with one original logo and original body copy.

I mainly used InDesign for this project. I placed photos and text inside the layout. Then I used text wrapping and paragraph styling tools to align everything and add a creative dimension to the brochure. I also used photographs both from the band itself and fromt he exhibit at EMP to appeal to the wide audience that would visit the museum.

Visual Media, Joel Judkins

Objective

We were asked to create a professional two-sided business card with original logos.

I started in Illustrator, and traced the outline of the hand with the pen tool . I also used the pen tool to free-form the blood. I then imported the logo into InDesign, and placed them on the card. I added text boxes for the name and information. Finally, I downloaded a blood splatter brush and attached the image to the back of the card in InDesign next to the information for a more realistic, up-close feel.

Three professional logo options for an imaginary assassination company. February 22, 2014

Process

Course/Instructor
Visual Media, Joel Judkins

Objective

We were asked to use Adobe Illustrator to generate three original logos for a real or fictional company.

I used Adobe Illustrator for this project. First, I traced the outline of the girl with the gun using the pen tool. I found and downloaded a fitting font, then placed over over it to make it feel like she was leaning back on it. Then I found a new font for the second logo. I turned the O red, and added lines to create a crosshair effect. Finally, I found a picture of a knife and traced it with the pen tool. I turned the silhouette red, then removed the side of the R and added it into my final font.

A web page designed with HTML and CSS to display previously designed logos. March 15, 2014

Process

Course/Instructor
Visual Media, Joel Judkins

Objective

I used basic HTML to insert text and photos of the logos. I then used CSS to dictate the design, including background color and imaging and text colors. The hardest part was definitely putting the blood spatters in the offset pattern in the margins, but its also my favorite element in the layout.

We were asked to use previously designed logos and to use basic HTML and CSS to create a web page to showcase the design.

M ontage

A montage designed to motivate or inspire, using Adobe Photoshop masks. February 15, 2014

Process

Course/Instructor
Visual Media, Joel Judkins

Objective

We were asked to create an inspirational poster. As much as I love using eagles and cats to shallowly build others up, I thought it would be more fun to create a movie promo.

I used Adobe Photoshop for this project. I took a picture of a cityscape, Batman, and Superman, and I pasted them over a black box. I used a mask with 100% opacity on Batman and Superman to fade them into the black, and then colorized the background to blend it out more. I then pasted in the quote, changed the font, and changed the highlighted section to a thin version of the font to make it stand out.

A poster advertising a benefit concert as a fundraiser.

Process

Course/Instructor
Visual Media, Joel Judkins

Objective

We were asked to design a flyer for a fundraising event. Since my roots are in the music scene, I decided to do a cancer benefit concert. We were asked to scan an image, so I brutalized an H&M catalogue and made an imaginary band to headline.

One of the stipulations for this project was that we had to design entirely in Microsoft Word. I scanned in the photo from an H&M catalogue, then pasted it into Word. I added the red bars to frame and hide the flaws of the picture, then added text about the date, time place, and price of the show. I used a monochromatic red color scheme to create high contrast against the white background the picture looked best against.

Objective

This was actually my first time using Adobe InDesign. I use sketches to pick a strong layout, then inserted the picture, text, and logo into the design. I split up the body copy to add white space, and highlighted the date, time, and place information as well as important text like competitive edge. I carefully aligned all of the elements before

This is a self-shot photograph used for a photography assignment. February 5, 2014

Process

Course/Instructor
Visual Media, Joel Judkins

Objective

We were asked to take several photographs, both indoors and outdoors, to gain an ability to take high-quality original photos in different settings.

This was my favorite photograph of six final pictures submitted for this assignment. I took it in the late afternoon with a Canon Rebel SL2 and a Tamron Macro lens. I found these amazing icicles hanging off a nearby roof, and found a great angle on them that involved wading into deep snow. I exposed the sky first to keep it blue, then framed up and took several shots. I then put my favorite frame into Photoshop and adjusted levels.

This is a motivational poster made from an original photograph taken from the previous assignment. February 8, 2014

Process

Objective

We were asked to take original photographs and create a poster with text. We also were asked to identify our color scheme as well.

I took this photo as part of the above assignment. I know that sunset pictures are cliche, so I came up with the idea to break the picture up into bars to make it more unique and visually interesting. I found the quote online, and used the eyedropper tool in Photoshop to pull actual colors from the sunset and use them to highlight key text. I then added color names and color scheme to corners of the poster.
