;o! that you have your ne! site set up there are a fe! things you, !ant to do. ' brand ne! WordPress insta ation comes !ith a itt e bit of defau t data so that you can see things !orking but you, !ant to get rid of a these things and put your o!n data there instead.

(omething e se that - fee - shou d mention here is that perma inks are not meant to be changed. .y their nature they are designed to be a permanent ink to a particu ar post or page on the site. This means that if you change your structure at some point in the future* any eFisting inks !i break. :nce you get your site indeFed in the search engines and start gaining inbound inks* you !ou d destroy your traffic in an instant by changing your perma ink structure so take the time to get it right the first time.

/ight no! the site is pretty ug y* and one of the main reasons to go !ith WordPress is the sheer amount of superb themes that are avai ab e both free and paid. ;o! as this is a free guide -,m going to concentrate on %ust free themes.

AdSense-0eady The)es
's this niche site is designed to make money - am making the assumption that you !i use 'd(ense some!here on the site. ;o! of course 'd(ense !orks better on some sites than others but there is probab y very itt e reason not to use at east one or t!o ad units some!here on the site. There are a number of p ugins that make this %ob easier* but !hat is even easier than that is a theme designed !ith 'd(ense bui t in. Site S b8ect 9 Monetisation

's - mentioned in the introduction to this book* the emphasis here is on the technica aspects of using WordPress and not so much the money9making aspect of it. )o!ever* - do fee that this sub%ect needs a itt e e aboration. :ne of the advantages of using WordPress is that it has a mechanism ca ed Npinging, !hich ensures that services such as Aoog e !i be notified !hen you update your site. Typical Str ct re o( Niche Sites

5ost niche sites that are designed to make money have %ust a fe! static pages of content that are high y optimised to!ards a particu ar key!ord and are heavi y oaded !ith ads. The idea is to be ab e to dra! search engine traffic that !i c ick through to those ads. 0or the site to be of va ue to your visitors* you need content. )o! much you need is high y debatab e. - !ou d say that you need a minimum of five pages to make the site !orth!hi e. There isn,t rea y an upper imit but if you find yourse f !ith enough content for more than about 67 pages then you have the makings of an authority site on your hands2

The 0ole o( Blogs in Niche Sites

nothing stopping you from a so inc uding a b og in your niche site and in fact it carries a fe! advantages if you choose to do so.

That is the basic strategy that - am advocating as a starting point !ith this book. -f this is a strategy that you p an to adopt* then it may not be a good idea to inc ude a b og on every site. :n the other hand* these b ogs are on y rea y here to provide a bit of fresh content for Aoog e + you,re not trying to be the neFt Pro. ogger here so the content can be short and "uick to produce. - have a b og on one of my niche sites and the posts on y take me about 37 minutes to create un ike the ones on my persona b og that typica y take 39? hours each2 P us - don,t update my niche b og every day + once a !eek !ou d be fine.
