A WORD FROM WENDY

April showers bring May flowers, right??? We can only hope and I am seriously hoping. Although, the Wichita Eagle states we may have one more snow fall in APRIL, I am praying that is a nasty April fool's joke. If "outside" is getting you down, let's take an inside look at WWC. Classes are "heating-up" and we are excited. Our Parkinson's and other Neurological Disease Exercise support group is going strong with new attendees. Our balance class has DOUBLED in size and class members are reporting positive outcomes just after a month of class. Check out the schedule on the left, we love growing, meeting new people and having the opportunity to improve quality of life. Referrals are our "spice-of-life", so let us know if we can be of help to anyone you know. With full steam ahead, we will be at the Parkinson's Disease Symposium on April 12th. I will be speaking and the WWC TEAM will be leading and demonstrating exercises. Have you ever watched nearly 200 people in unison exercising? It is amazing. We will have WSU Physical Therapy (PT) students joining us and encouraging the movements. We are thrilled with their support and energy. In fact, we may be involved with another research project next fall with WSU PT Department (faculty: Dr. Cam Wilson) and I am very excited with the potential opportunity. : )

Speaking of WSU, we continue to have Physician Assistant students observing on Thursday mornings. How wonderful to have eager minds seeking understanding of what advanced personal training can contribute to the Health Care hierarchy. Thank you to Professor Sue Nyberg for encouraging this association.

Lastly, feel free to pick up a new article that I wrote for an on-line journal magazine regarding Pre-habilitation. To be honest with you, people often are referred to WWC after being dismissed from their surgeon or physical therapist following a knee replacement or a hip replacement. I love seeing their face when I discuss the sensation, plan of action or just discuss their case and ask pin-pointed questions. Perhaps questions that only someone who has been through these respective surgeries can ask.... Then I show them MY scar....doesn't look too bad after three years, and it is revealing to them that they, too, can get stronger. The article discusses thoughts and actions to consider prior to surgery, if indeed it is necessary. If you know anyone contemplating having a replacement, pick up a copy of the article here at WWC. This past weekend, Jackie and I attended the Gray Institute: Assessments and solutions for the hip workshop in Kansas City. A lot of information was received and demonstrated. While we will continue implementation of our newly established assessments, we will sprinkle some of the new learned techniques into the mix. WWC can never have enough education and we are pleased we didn't have to travel too far. As we near our TWO YEAR anniversary, we continue to learn and grow. Truly a lot has a lot been learned about business and the science of what we do, not to mention the amazing reciprocation with the medical community. Thank you to all of you for your continued support and exercise energy!! This edition of the newsletter is brief due to our staff taking some time at spring break to be with family and friends. We are charged and ready to see what additional events and ideas come our way in the future.
