Works for Grange and Findon Road intersection upgrade to begin later this month
Preliminary works to upgrade the Grange Road and Findon Road intersection in Adelaides western suburbs will begin later this month. Road Safety Minister Tony Piccolo said the $1.45 million upgrade would reduce the number of right turn and rear-end crashes at the intersection and improve traffic flow. Crash data has shown that between 2009 and 2013, there were 33 minor-injury crashes and one serious-injury crash at this intersection, Mr Piccolo said. This upgrade will improve safety for all users and is consistent with the Governments safety strategy to greatly reduce road trauma through safer roads. Surrounding businesses will be door-knocked today to discuss the works. Letters will also be sent to businesses and residents in the area. The upgrade will include: right-hand turn lanes; left-turn slip lanes on three corners of the intersection; overhead traffic lights and new street lighting; road widening and new asphalt; new bike lanes and indented bus stops on Grange Road; and Disability Discrimination Act compliant pedestrian facilities. Works will generally occur from 7.00am to 7.00pm on Monday to Saturday and 9.00am to 5.00pm on Sunday. Mr Piccolo said in order to minimise disruption to local businesses and road users, night works might also be necessary and every effort would be made to minimise disruption to residents and road users. "Some noise from construction equipment, vehicle movements, or material handling activities is unavoidable, he said. "I ask all road users and community members to be patient and adhere to any restrictions in place. Also, be mindful of heavy vehicle movements and drive safely in the area at all t imes.
