Schindlers List
1. What fosters cruelty and the indifference to the fate of others? How does a community or school encourage caring? For me, the thing that fosters cruelty and indifference to the fate of others is envy, envy towards their progress, towards their being capable of something that boosts their personalities as human beings and envy towards their way of life living indifferently as what they do. A community or school could encourage caring by establishing programs concerning humanity such as fund raising for poor people or those who suffer from different forms of human destruction. Anything small or big action of members of the community or school in order to help the less fortunate would mean a lot of caring because in such way, we make them feel they are not alone along the battle they are with.

2. What does the word power mean to you? What does it mean to Goeth? What does it mean to Schindler? Do these people misuse power? The word power mean s help to me, help in such a way that I can use my power in order to help the people who need my assistance. To Goeth, it means an opportunity to become the one everyone would be feared of because he used his power to indistinctively kill or shoot a lot of innocent Jews. Even when he sometimes thinks of it as inhuman, he still had not taken action on how to avoid or prevent it that if he does, he would have violated the order given to him. But some other person has done it why cant he do the same? To Schindler, power means an opportunity to save as more people/Jews as possible. Though at first, he really seemed to mean business but then he realized that he has gotten lots of money enough to live with and he suddenly cared for the Jews and was able to find a great way on how to save them from the worst.

3. Describe the major characters Oskar Schindler, Itzhak Stern and Amin Goeth. Itzhak Stern is a brilliant man trustworthy of something important to other people (Schindler himself and the factories he owned) AmonGoeth was a cruel and brutal soldier but was coward enough of his feelings towards a Jewish woman whom, I believe, he loves. Oskar Schindler was an epitome of a Good Samaritan set in a very complex situation but he has managed to become one. He has a very kind heart being one of the class people in the society but has chosen to do what a normal man wouldnt do which is to sacrifice his treasures inorder to save a thousand lives. He also has this heart of gratitude even for the very small things any person would do to him, which is a very important trait that a person should have.

4. For you, what is the theme of the movie? Explain. For me, the theme of the movie is importance of humanity, in which at first, there was a scheme for mass destruction, the Jewish to be specific, and then came Oskar Schindler and found a way on how to preserve those lives without being so obvious to the higher authorities.

5. Why is the film shot mostly in black and white? What were the advantages to filming these events in black and white? I think the film was shot mostly in black and white because the director or the people behind the film wanted to show the audience how the happenings are being so sad and casted down, the Jewish were forlorn when they were transported to concentration camps and face pain and hunger then suddenly die. The advantages of filming these events in black and white are this movie will be remembered through the years, the happenings will be emphasized as blue as it is and it will become more realistic as it has been based on a really sad true story.

6. At the beginning of the war, Schindler was a greedy high living war profiteer anxious to make money from the misfortune of the Jews. What made him change? The thing that made Schindler from a greedy high living war profiteer to a man of compassion in his heart and a feeling of sympathy towards his own human being is that when he saw the sufferings of the Jews that the soldiers were doing to them making them as an animal slaying from here and there the suddenly shoot them as if they had no rights at all. That event struck Schindlers heart and the addition was when he saw an innocent child walking along the streets without any knowing of what her fate will turn herthen he suddenly saw her cold body lying on the street. He felt guilty about those things and could not bear those happenings.

7. Write an analytical essay in which you compare and contrast the characters Schindler and Goeth in terms of the concept that both good and evil can reside in any one individual. Schindlers List is all about war, murder, conflicts and human exploitation. There is AmonGoeth, who is a ruthless shooter of the innocent Jews. There is Oskar Schindler, who is a womanizer, thirsty of wealth and playing safe Nazi Party member. Both of them have their own purposes of why have they done such of their actions. Both of them have their own agenda for their involvement in the war. But what separates Oskar Schindler from AmonGoeth is that the feeling of compassion suddenly resided his mind which transitioned him from a man of having a wealthy and selfish purpose to a man having a heart to letting go of the things he has just to take an opportunity to save as many Jews as possible. He may be mysterious but his intentions are very obvious that he wanted to lessen the sufferings of the Jews and if possible free them from pain, nightmares and hopeless moments of their lives. On the other hand, AmonGoeth has not become like Schindler.

Until the end of the story, he is like that cruel soldier leader having no fear and conscience with regards to shooting and playing with the Jews. 8. There was a theme that ran through most of Schindlers actions: his delight to women; his interest in good terms and high living; his friendliness with everyone (including the Nazis); and his protection of the Jews who came to work in his factory. Can you describe what this was? Schindlers actions were done by him because he thought of those actions and that what he wanted to do and in every action he had been taken has had a purpose or reason. In his delight to women, well for me he was just as gentleman as he was; in terms of his interests in good times and high living, he wanted to have a comfortable life with enough wealth to live with; in his friendliness with everyone, he wanted to show how kind and good-hearted he was and he showed friendliness to the Nazis because of his purpose of having no trouble when he was trying to save some Jews; and of course in his protection of the Jews who came to work to his factory, he felt sympathy to those people that he realized they were also humans who happened to have feelings of pain and suffering that he felt guilty when he knew he has something to do thats why he had done such actions.

9. How do you feel for the Jews and German after watching the movie? Well, honestly, I didnt know how cruel the Germans was and all that I know was about Hitler who came to murder a lot of people and my knowing about the dictatorship of Adolf Hitler had become a lot wider after I watched the film and yes, I cried. I feel sorry for the Jewish community after what the Germans have gotten to them. They were very innocent, religious and full of enthusiasm about pursuing things in order to improve their lives and thats the reason that I think the Germans must have envied about them that the only way to beat them was to eradicate them into this world in which they do not at all have rights. To the Germans, I pity them a lot, not because they are going to suffer in hell or somewhere else for the notorious crime they had ever committed against humanity but because they are not as studious, committed, satisfied and decent like the Jews that they wanted to get what they want and they wanted to have power in order to rule the people.

Gone with the Wind

1. In what way that Scarlett represents the Old South and in what way does she represents the New South? Scarlett O Hara represents the Old South in a way that she is free from any misery in life and she represents the New South as a tough, brave and new. Scarletts transformation reflects the changes of the South during and after the Civil War by being a natural and pure at first as

how its land started and then suddenly, it had been changed by the catastrophe humans and situations have brought.

2. Compare and contrast Ashley and Rhett. What cultural attitudes or ways of life do they embody? Ashley Wilkes and Captain Rhett Butler are both the same gentlemen and faithful lover but they do have lot things uncommon. Ashley is a man of natural goodness but Rhett, though hes not that criminal in the story, has a lot of attitude that he thinks for his sake first. The cultural attitudes or ways of life they embody are that they are very gentle, in which a man should really have to be, they are so faithful when they love a woman and they got a lot of skills a man should really have in order to cater the needs of his family because a man is ought to feed and give the necessary things to his family.

3. How are slavery and black people depicted in Gone with the Wind? Can the movie/novel be labeled racist? Explain your answer. Slavery has been obvious in this story in which it can be seen through wealthy families. I think the novel/movie can somehow be labeled racist because the roles of black people there were slaves only where in fact they could have got talents higher characters but the author has just stuck them up as slaves. 4. Is Scarlett OHara a feminist character? Explain why or why not, considering historical context, Scarletts character traits and her relationship with Rhett. Yes, Scarlett OHara is a feminist character in a sense that her only weakness is her love for Ashley Wilkes, she has this unexplainable charm towards beaus and of course, Rhett has become beautifully and purely in love with her that gave him more reasons to go on with life together with Scarlett if she would allow also.

Gullivers Travels 1. Are there any characters in Gullivers Travels that have psychological depth? Does Gulliver seem like a believable character to you? Yes, there is another character that has a psychological depth which happens to be the general of the army of Lilliput who is a very selfish and greedy man which has nothing to do but making things worthy for him through a wrong way. Gulliver is probably a believable character
4

because I could see in him the traits of a lot of persons I know who are being so pretentious in order to get what they want. 2. Are there any lessons that we can carry away from Gullivers Travels for living better lives or having better governments? What are they? Yes, there might be a lesson from Gullivers Travel and that is not to become pretentious and be satisfied to what your ability could do then harnesses your abilities in a good way.

3. Elements of Yahoo Society are familiar to everyone. What do you see around in the behavior of others or in the news that are similar to Yahoo society? I can see people living in a way which is not intervened by someone in the government or any other person of authority and they have the right to choose what they are going to do on the day, which they want to be with for this moment and that, what clothes they are going to wear and all other things.

4. What is satire? Satire, according to a dictionary is the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. 5. What does Swifts story satirize? The story satirizes how a mans life could become if he do not become so worthy of something or someone. 6. What is the significance, if any, of the order in which Gullivers journeys take place? How does each adventure build on the previous one? There was such significance in Gullivers travels because he came to reflect for his actions and he came to realize how his attitude was being wrong and he has come to overcome them.

7. Why does Gulliver keep travelling despite his many misfortunes? Gulliver keeps on travelling despite of much misfortune because it is his passion and he finds himself fit to this kind of things and he discovers a lot of things from his travels which he could share to his fellows when he comes back.

Don Quixote

1. Don Quixote highly values genuine romantic love, yet many of the love stories embedded in Don Quixote are resolved only through trickery. What is Cervantes implying if true love in the novel can be realized only by deceit? I think Cervantes is implying the thing in which he makes his audience realize that sometimes, in order to gain true love, it needs to pass through a way which is not pleasing to us or such negative ideas. It doesnt need that true love is being processed through perfect means and ways. 2. How does Don Quixotes perception of reality affect other characters perception of the world? Does his disregard for social convention change the rules of conduct for the other characters? The perception of Don Quixote of the world was an arena for great knights and chivalry is the great thing a knight should have and it affected the other characters in a sense that they are able to appreciate Don Quixotes determination to become that one great knight but not to the extent that they are going to let him offer his life just for this knighthood and greatness. Some those who envy Don Quixote let go of their perception of the world just to focus on altering his and it somehow change the rules of conduct of the other characters.

3. What attitude does the novel take toward social class? How is social class a factor in relationships between characters? The attitude the novel wants to take toward the social class is that it doesnt matter how every ones perception vary towards the other and how every ones status in lifeis different as long as all of the people unite for harmonious relationship towards each other. Generally, there are different kinds of status stated in the novel (the dukes are on the upper class and Sanchos place in peasantry). Social class is such a factor in relationships between characters in sense that it is their basis upon what kind of endeavor they are going to push through. 4. Like Hamlets madness, Don Quixotes insanity is the subject of much controversy among literary critics. Is Don Quixote really insane, or his behavior a conscious choice? I think Don Quixote is not really an insane man. I agree that his behaviors are just taken from conscious choices and I call it passion. He has this great passion in chivalry and knighthood in which his books and his readings regarding such play a very big role in the outcomes of his actions.
