Job Description

An orthodontist helps to get rid of facial abnormalities like irregular bite or uneven teeth. He/she examines, diagnoses and finds solutions for the deformities in the positioning of the teeth or jaw. Before starting with any procedure, the orthodontist first has to study the dental history of the client. The orthodontist has to decide what exact alterations are required to be done in the oral structure of the client to improve the appearance along with normal function. With all the available data, the orthodontist then plans the treatment. He/she designs and manufactures special dental appliances like retainers, dental braces, etc.

They have to treat patients on all teeth related problems.

They have to maintain reports and x-rays of each patient.


Orthodontists should be experts at handling all the tools and should also be adept at making dental aids like braces and dentures. They have to educate the patients on correct dental care and maintenance of hygiene so as to avoid any further problems in the future. They have to keep a regular check on their patients and have to call them for routine checkups every six months. If the patient sees another orthodontist, they have to coordinate with them and hand over all the dental records to them.

required to earn their high school diploma or GED. Coursework in anatomy, chemistry, physics, biology and anatomy is encouraged. Taking a foreign language is also helpful, since orthodontists treat patients from various nationalities.

Basic business skills such as human resource management, taxation, billing, finance management and accounting. Sales and persuasive skills are other necessities in order to attract and maintain customers.
