Mayor’s Page
The warm and sunny months are just around the corner. Soon hockey sticks and toboggans
that have filled rinks and hills will be replaced by baseball bats and soccer balls. It’s the
season for people of all ages to get outside and get active.
A new look!
You have likely noticed some changes to the look and feel of this edition of the Guelph
Community Guide. The publication has been re-designed starting with the front cover
and continuing through to the last page. The guide has been improved by making the
text more readable, improving the format of the program listings, printing the guide using
post consumer recycled paper and soya-based inks, and being conscientious about the
environment by only printing enough guides for those that want one. All this has been
done while ensuring that you continue to receive the same City of Guelph recreation and
leisure information that you have in the past. We welcome your feedback; please send an
e-mail to communications@guelph.ca
Remember that June is Recreation and Parks Month. There will be many fun activities
taking place during the month for people of all ages. Visit guelph.ca/recreation in the
coming months for more information.
Happy Spring!

with children of the same ability and age. NOTE: Each class may include 2-3 different swimming levels. Parent participation is not
required. Low student to instructor ratios will continue to be maintained and all skill evaluations will be ongoing throughout the

NEW! To help improve our programs and provide a better teaching experience for your child, parents must provide their
child’s swimming level when registering for family lessons.

Family Lessons
Register all of your children’s lessons at the same time!
Aquatics - Summer
During our Family lesson program, swimming lessons are programmed by time schedules rather than by the level. This allows
families to register all of their children’s lessons together at the same time.
Please bring your child’s most recent progress report on the first lesson. Participants, who do not have a previous report or are
unsure of their level, will be screened and assigned to an appropriate level on the first lesson. Participants will be placed in classes
with children of the same ability and age. NOTE: Each class may include 2-3 different swimming levels. Parent participation is not
required. Low student to instructor ratios will continue to be maintained and all skill evaluations will be ongoing throughout the
session. ‘Whale’ participants will be taught with school age children.
Prices are listed for residents of Guelph, non-residents add $7.50 to fees listed. Prices do not include GST.

Tennis Lessons
The Royal City Tennis Club and Guelph Community Services have partnered to offer high quality tennis lessons, stressing
progressive instruction, fun and fitness for you and your family! Lessons are taught by Tennis Canada certified instructors
under the guidance of Harry Greenan, a Level 3 Tennis Canada coach with over 30 years experience.
Our lessons are offered at four accessible locations, with indoor facilities on inclement weather days. Lessons will be
re-scheduled and moved to indoor courts in cases of inclement weather when possible. Contact Harry Greenan at
519-242-9494 for updates.
Age groupings are flexible and may be altered to accommodate a group of players with similar skill levels. Instructors will
screen participants during the first lesson and may recommend an alternative program that best suits the player’s abilities.
Participants will also receive achievement records enabling them to track their progress.
Holiday special: If you must miss a class due to holidays, speak with Harry Greenan to make arrangements for a make up
class (not guaranteed).
Register early to avoid disappointment. For more information, read the Registration Information section in this guide.
