World of Design
This series of four design-led craft books offers fresh ideas and useful support for art and design. There are two photocopiable worksheets for each book. Some are projects with step-by-step instructions for making particular objects. Others are classroom activities, which invite children to focus on specific details of artefacts, such as their materials, techniques, function and decoration. Children will need access to the books to explore the origins and uses of many crafts from around the world, and as inspiration and reference for creating their own designs. The Character Masks worksheet asks children to identify the different expressions shown on six masks and to consider how the mask makers achieved these effects. It also provides several face shapes on which children can draw sample expressions. The Carnival Mask worksheet provides a simple template to trace, as well as concise instructions for making a decorative eye-mask. Learning objectives are at the bottom of each worksheet.
