TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATION ASSISTANCE (FAMILIES OF INMATES)

Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) welcomes family and friends who wish to visit NSW correctional centres. Financial assistance is provided for travel and accommodation expenses for family members who experience financial hardship which may prevent travelling long distances to visit. You are eligible to apply for travel and accommodation assistance when: The inmate you wish to visit is serving a term of imprisonment of at least six (6) months You are a member of the inmates immediate family* You are receiving a commonwealth benefit and can provide proof of such You have not received travel and or accommodation assistance to visit the inmate within the previous twelve (12) weeks Your journey is more than 200 kilometres one way

* Immediate family members generally include a persons spouse, partner, father, mother, brothers, sisters, children and/or step children. Immediate family members may also include people who have acted as an individuals legal guardian or parent (e.g., foster carers, primary carers, grandparents, aunts and uncles). What are you eligible for? Financial assistance for travel costs will be to the value of an economy/concession train or bus fare. If public transport isnt available or practicable, the amount of financial assistance will be based on $10.00 per 100 kilometres travelled to assist with fuel costs. For interstate applicants, travel assistance will be calculated from the appropriate NSW border to the correctional centre to be visited. Air fares and taxi fares will not be reimbursed. Financial assistance for accommodation costs will be for the actual room charge to a maximum of $110 per night for one night only. Food and beverage costs will not be reimbursed. How do you apply? Completed applications should be sent to the Manager, Offender Services & Programs at the correctional centre to be visited within 30 days of the planned visit. You must include receipts to verify your travel/accommodation claim within 30 days of the visit. Please note that financial assistance will not be paid unless forms and receipts are submitted within 30 days of the visit. Travel and accommodation assistance will be paid by direct credit to your nominated account.
