81 year old retired (but not retiring) former general surgeon and general
practitioner with special interests in communication, social problems and
philosophy – divorced (41 year marriage with four children and 11
grandchildren) – additional skills as organizer, problem solver and former
private pilot, ocean navigator, house builder and youth and drug councilor,

Education:
1954 – B.A. (math major) - Magna Cum Laude – New York University.
1958 - M.D. – University of Geneva, Switzerland (all in French).
1987 – Attended two A.M.A. post graduate courses in Beginning and Advanced
Mediation Techniques.
1995-1996 – two years of theater, production and acting courses –
Diablo Valley College, Pleasant Hill, CA.
1997 – present – intermittent acting in small theater productions.
2008 - ”Spanish for Gringos” Beginning Spanish – Palm Springs plus home
study and instruction.
2008 - (pending part time teaching credential) Level I –Teaching – Univ. of
San Diego – extension course under Los Angeles County Office of Education.

Employment History:
1945-1951 – Six years of various secretarial jobs, diverse employment in the
entertainment field (night clubs, theater production, TV production with CBS
and KLAC).
1951-1953 – one and one half years as psychiatric attendant at Bellevue
Hospital, NYC while attending NYU.
1959-1964 – Internship and Surgical Residency – Mt. Zion Hospital, San
Francisco, CA. One publication - American Journal of Surgery – “Acute
Appendicitis, “How Often Is It Right to be Wrong”.

Medical Practice:
1964- 1971- Private Surgical practice – Monterey and Carmel, CA. During this
time organized and participated in the Dug Information and Crisis Center in
Monterey to deal with youth drug problems (the LSD craze was beginning and
heroin becoming a youth drug problem), family and interpersonal relationship
issues and other psychological problems), detoxified (probably illegally) about
six heroin young addicts with my wife at our home. (We claim 50% long term
success rate!)

1971-1974- Private Surgical practice – Eureka, CA – during this period helped
organize a private physician Emergency Room organization to replace the
former mandatory E.R. services of all physicians on the hospital staff.
1974-1985 – Private (for one year a group member) Surgical Practice. –
Rawlins and Gillette, Wyoming.
1985-1986 - Long Beach, CA -One and a half years as malpractice evaluation
specialist for Professional Risk Management (a private firm contracted by
City and County of Los Angeles for management of all potential malpractice
problems in hospitals and clinics.) Over 600 written case summaries
completed.
1986-1995 – Part time General Practice (“locum tenens”) employment as
General Practitioner in various groups –hospitals, groups, prisons, Indian
reservations and the S.F. street clinic system established for the indigent
population of the city. This was intermittent employment while actually
building a home in Big Sur, California over a ten year period.

1985-Current Activities
Volunteer at Desert Regional Memorial Hospital.
