Future Prospects & Development RHEUMATOLOGY T RAINING 2 DM students got admitted in this year. CERTIFICATE COURSES: [6-12 weeks refresher courses for medical graduates, mainly focusing on patient management of common problems] SHORT COURSES [2-4 WEEKS] FOR BASIC SCIENCE GRADUATES: This will focus on Immunological methods in clinical application INDOOR FACILITIES: Increase in number of inpatient beds. 30 including critical care and separate 6-8 day care beds. OUTDOOR FACILITIES: Increase in OPD space [new building] will help PATIENT EDUCATION AND SUPPORT: We have already started creating patient education leaflets in local languages. IMAGING: With our MSK-Ultrasound and e-MRI [the Rheuma Lab of the West] we aim to be the best in the country IMMUNOLOGY: The facility for autoantibody testing like ANA, Rheumatoid Factor, ANCA, Complements etc will be expanded EPIDEMIOLOGY: Already completed Low Back Pain in WB and MSK burden in WB Village. We like to extend this to create a Musculoskeletal Disease Map of West Bengal which will help in health care planning. CLINICAL RESEARCH: To be involve in more clinical research esp in thrust areas like Rheumatoid, Lupus, Osteoporosis, Fibromyalgia BASIC SCIENCE: The department envisages to be involving [projects already submitted to various science bodies] in basic areas like genetics of rheumatic diseases, herbal medicines, interdisciplinary topics.
