LLOYD DAVID RETURNS FROM HIS TRAVELS

Thank you, each one, for your tremendous expression of love and concern in the fellowship with you and our brethren while on my travels in the USA! Here, back in Brazil, we are meeting a new wave of 50 degrees (ice cold-3 blanket-weather). Somehow the cold
feels colder and the heat feels hotter! But of course,

the "breathing" is just as important, or more so, as it is anywhere in the world. For this, and a multitude of other reasons, I give thanks to God for "headaches"
that are healed, for the comfort of the Holy Spirit that is always present, for the realization of wonderful fellowship with the brethren in every church the two months (April 23-June 21) I spent with you in
thB-States THREE NEW CHURCHES

Yes, in Brazil, we rejoice that upon my arrival, the welcome was so refreshing, I could weep with joy to be back with the "Family of God"- at home - away from home. We have been greeted these days with THREE NEW CHURCHES, two in the surrounding satilite city area of Samambaia, mainly through the efforts of the Rector and students of Brasilia Christian College. We attended the "opening night" of the other new church in the
satelite area of Santa Maria where the Missionary Team

which is training to go to Mozambique (Africa) has started a new congregation. Some 100 attended a chilling wind which did not chill the enthusiasm (but gave David the beginning of a bad chest infection)- a dark night in an open field seemed a little out of place and just two pressure lanterns did not help much. Starting with a traditional social time, soon lights
appeared in the small "clapboard" chapel with guitars

and drums, as we praised the Lord with prayer, singing and brief preaching in dedication of the chapel.
ANNUAL BRAZILIAN CHURCH CONVENTION

L.
Pires

David and Philip McAfee drove the 150 miles to

do Rio for the annual church convention the

weekend before the All South American Missionary Convention in Quito, Ecuador. Over 2000 were in attendance... (But David's chest infection became worse).
AND THEN WE TRAVELED!

L. David and Ruth were excited about being able to go to the All-South American Missionary Conference (held only every three years) to be held in Quito Ecuador this year! On July 15th they left early in the morning by plane to Belo Horizonte. From there they caught the plane to La Paz, Bolivia where they spent the night. I t was the Bolivian Independence Day holiday... celebration which lasted all night in the square in front of their hotel. A fairly high altitude, Ruth had trouble breathing and David suffered from fever all night. Next morning, off to Lima, Peru for

short stop over and on to Quito.

They attended the

first afternoon and evening sessions and the next day

it all fell apart. At 9300 ft., they could not breath well, no energy whatsoever, and seemingly "freezing cold." David got back to the conference one more time "to give a five minute report of the work in Brazil...
he was taken to the doctor who told us to get off the

mountain! We praise the Lord that passage was finally obtained four days earlier than we had planned and we

"MEN OUGHT ALWAYS TO PRAY, AND NOT TO FAINT." Luke 18:1

Dear Christian Brothers and Sisters,

It is with a

great deal of joy and thoughts of you who

have kept in touch with us, to take this opportunity to wish you each one a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! We would like to thank you who are praying for our work
here in Northeast Brazil and you who continue to help on

a monthly basis. We would also like to thank those of you who are now sharing in the "ADOPT A CHILD" Project.
GOD'S GOODNESS SHINES BRIGHTEST AT CHRISTMAS and we see

HIS GOODNESS through your love and concern. May the accompanying "BITS OF NEWS FROM NORTHEAST BRAZIL" and pictures bring you closer to us and the work you help
us carry on! Mother and Dad Sanders (L. David and Ruth) were with us

here

in Recife

for

eight days.

They had gone

to

Natal

(northwest of us, on the coast) with another minister from Brasilia to inaugurate a new church and baptize 11 new converts. Since i t was but a 40 minute trip down here on the way to Brasilia, they stopped over. We had a good visit, walked along the beach every morning early (Dad and Luiz Carlos went into the ocean and fought the high waves). They visited our Association of Street_ Children and the young church here. Dad gave the evening message. THEY JOIN US in sending our love, our appreciation and OUR WISHES FOR A BLESSED CHRISTMAS!
Some friends have written to us from the States. It

is so nice to receive mail and know that care for our family, as your family, and
your work for the Lord!
